Profit is obviously evil and municipal water is always privately owned despite its name. I guess the writing's on the wall - you should stop drinking water. - unusualbob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+401. To quench your thirst
- lazyrussian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35I can't do it Cap'n! I already drink 120 ounces of water a day. Productivity is being replaced by visits to the toilet. :(
- Renton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27"All that sugar from a single can, and you still have other stuff like corn syrup."
All that sugar IS corn syrup. There is no cane sugar in coke or pepsi. It would actually be much healthier if you were drinking 39 grams of *real* sugar. - Darkhacker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28It's not so much the water itself that is healthy, it is the fact that you should be drinking water instead of things like Coke or Pepsi. Coke (which has less sugar than Pepsi at 41g) has 39 grams of sugar. That might not sound like a lot if you aren't familiar with food labels, but try measuring out seven to ten teaspoons of sugar (different sources said different amount of teaspoons) and put it in a small pile to see how much it is. All that sugar from a single can, and you still have other stuff like corn syrup. Currently there is no official Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for sugar but their are movements to get the FDA to standardize 40 grams as the official RDI. That's only a single can of coke. Don't be fooled by "Low Sugar" or "Sugar Free" foods either. A lot of these are using aspartame which some studies suggest might be as bad as sugar (still unknown and the evidence is weak, but it may change over time). Those which aren't using aspartame are loading ***** with salt instead. Too much salt is just as bad for you as too much sugar. Ever look at the food label on a can of Campbell's Soup? Some chicken soup or vegetable soup might sound healthy especially in such a small can until you realize that it is a third of your daily salt intake. Read food labels carefully and google around for some foods that really are healthy and make a good snack. Fruits and vegetables are good if you buy them stand-alone instead of in a can or frozen package, even if they aren't organic (some people are organic freaks) it is still better for you than all the junk food that people usually eat.

The tap water in my city was contaminated with higher than acceptable levels of lead for months before it was made known to the public. We still don't know how much lead, where the system was affected or for how long.
Tap water is usually safe (atleast in the majority of the USA) but it is still good to be aware of what can happen.
Now if water filter jugs can filter out the unnecessary fluoride, that would be great. - quomen, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Coke isn't a diuretic, caffine is.

- unibomber999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Salt intake isn't that big of a deal unless you aren't drinking enough water. There have been studies done regarding asian diets, which contain way more salt than ours on average, and found no correlation to high blood pressure and some other symptoms we associate with high salt intake.

Dude, water is water. Two hydrogen atoms bonded to a single Oxygen atom. You've fallen for the marketing ruse that giving water a fancy name will give people the impression that it actually tastes different. If it's been distilled, it's going to taste exactly the same no matter where the water is from. - nailz420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4In other news, Top 10 reasons you should breath AIR!
- NGNR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Water intake is an important part of every day life. With each day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.
How much water to drink?
Men should drink roughly 3 litres a day and women should consume about 2.2 litres of total beverages a day. Where, food accounts for 20 percent of your total fluid intake, so if you consume 2 liters of water or other beverages a day (a little more than 8 cups) along with your normal diet, you will typically replace the lost fluids. - Darkhacker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You're expecting me to trust something which I have dead and in my freezer? That's ridiculous! I'm not trusting fish or babies.
- emjaymj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4That doesn't sound very appealing but I had mine broken into many smaller pieces with shockwaves (it was a huge one.) It sounds like a more desirable treatment, but I was passing them regularly for nearly 2 years afterwards. The best idea is to definitely just try to prevent it by drinking a lot of water - the treatments suck and the pain is really unimaginable.
- p0tent1al, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The reason your getting dugg down is because of that huge wall of text, for no other reason. In case you have forgotten, this is Digg.com. People do not have patience to be reading novels like that. If you are going to write a comment again, make it short as possible, and make it count. That could be the most brilliant comment ever. I personally did not take the time to read past the 3rd line.
- Renton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I live in Philadelphia, which is known for having the best water treatment plant in the country. But the pipes around my area are very old, some are still contain lead, and by the time that water gets to my house, its full of sediments. I dont know if you consider that "undrinkable" but I'd have to run it through a Brita filter before I drink form the tap.
- Soniti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Looks like you're the only other person who's seen that episode of *****..
I swear, people hear toxins and think there's a ***** radioactive waste dump in their intestines.

TOXINS ARE *****.

My tap water comes right from Arrowhead lake, so it's far cleaner than that bottled crap they make. Hell, not even "Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water" brand bottled water comes from Arrowhead. I happen to be lucky though.
There are many places that have undrinkable tap water, at least for those who aren't used to it. Municipal water isn't God's almighty, perfect gift to us all. While most municipal water is clean enough for consumption, there are cases where the filtering stations miss a lot of crap or just end up contaminated with stuff you don't want in water. Even the pipes in your home can contaminate the water.
My city's water is served via a reservoir system. Since this reservoir not only collects water through water pumped from arrowhead and silverwood lakes, it has nothing covering it, so rain water also collects. Now, I live about an hour east of Los Angeles, and due to the mountains in the area, all the smog from LA collects and gets stuck here until the wind blows it back to LA, or it rains. When it rains when that giant mass of ***** hovers overhead, we get acid rain and really nasty sticky rain. At one time, the rain was so filthy, the water was making people sick.
My city also has an aquifer beneath it. The air force base here, which has since been decommissioned, ended up contaminating the aquifer with oil and gasoline that was carelessly dumped over the years. The city has now been spending about 10-20 years and millions of dollars searching for the bubbles of oil and constructing pumping stations to pump that crap out of the aquifer. For years upon years, the city used that water to serve the city, and that water was like the water in the Salton sea: Water would be pumped into homes, contaminated with pesticides and oil and other random crap we use, then flow right back into the water source. Municipal water didn't realize this for many, many years, so for quite a while, water in this city was disgusting. In no way is municipal water infallible. This city's failure to notice a problem with its water supply has put the city at risk of falling into sink holes, since the pollutants in the aquifer move water away from areas depending on that water to support it.
I don't know where I was going with that long explanation, but bleh, whatever. Think about what you've typed before submitting it. Tap water is very well undrinkable in places. -
