10 Commandments for Dropping 10 Pounds & 10 Years
dumblittleman.com — In addition to some form of simple exercise regimen, these ten daily habits worked into your routine can provide you with optimum health, beautiful skin and a trim waistline. It's not a diet; I didn ’t read it anywhere. It's really just common sense that no one seems to follow.

- ChronicColonic, on 04/30/2008, -7/+35The Lord, the Lord Jehovah has given unto you these fifteen... Oy! Ten! Ten commandments for all to obey!
- homerj1965, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3I love that movie.
- sporg, on 04/30/2008, -5/+1Since America is already headed towards fascist dictatorship they should make exercise mandatory. They can tie it into your National ID so that if you don't exercise your cards wont work and you cant buy any food.
- gammamike, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1That's the most amazingly strained transition to OMG AMERIKKKA SUXX that I have ever seen. Well done, sir.
- sporg, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I try to work in a police state reference on completely unrelated articles when ever possible, the escapists reading this kind of self congratulatory tripe hate it.

- KatherineC, on 04/30/2008, -3/+31Wow. Hold is Kevin in that photo?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/30/2008, -1/+812?
- Hoogs, on 04/30/2008, -0/+5That's what I thought.
- PlasticLack, on 04/30/2008, -0/+10H'old ...the contraction for "How old." I like it.
- fejomite, on 05/01/2008, -0/+0he's 97...they used that contraction before WWII then dropped it after the Japanese surrendered
- aboyd, on 04/30/2008, -22/+12You know, this is a pretty great article and it deserves some diggs. However, I really hate it when people lie to make their point. I'm referring to the author suggesting that being "really hungry" is a wonderful feeling. That is complete and utter BS -- if it were true, we'd all be walking around emaciated and bragging about how we've starved ourselves. Why does he have to blow smoke up our asses? His points don't need it. They're good points. He shouldn't try to sell them by being a used-car salesman. They sell themselves, if he would just get out of the way and let me enjoy the advice.
- krellor, on 04/30/2008, -0/+8That is true. Hunger is the best spice and all. But like aboyd said, being truly hungry sucks. And, after a few days, it hurts too. Not something I would describe as good.
- NoCt1, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3Hes not saying that is great.. But have you ever waken up Starving then eaten something afterwords.. You de feel great.. Because your body Is just doing something natural. Its one thing to starve your self.. but its another to just be hungry..
- krellor, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2I know what she probably meant to say, but that is not what was written. As it was written it says feeling hungry feels good. Which isn't true. It doesn't say eating when you are really hungry feels good. Which is true. An example would be saying that having a muscle spasm in your back feels great when you meant to say getting a backrub when you have a muscle spasm feels great. Different things, and sometimes worth pointing out. When I am really hungry I don't think any food beats a simple potato soup with a hunk of fresh bread to dip, no seasoning needed.
- hodrige, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Well... Some people feel nauseous when they get very hungry. after that they can't eat much.
- girliegurl, on 04/30/2008, -3/+2i'll have to try the coconut oil thing
- NoCt1, on 04/30/2008, -3/+4If your attractive Id be willing to try it with you.. ;) (but your pic looks a little doggish to me..)

:P

- MattB123, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2It's also a good food that while still high in fat, it's better fat than butter.
We use it for a butter substitute and to make popcorn (the old fashioned way), and oh man if you think popcorn smells good, wait until you smell it cooking in coconut oil. Yum!
- NoCt1, on 04/30/2008, -3/+4If your attractive Id be willing to try it with you.. ;) (but your pic looks a little doggish to me..)
- Jodie1234, on 04/30/2008, -1/+33Hi - Aboyd - thanks for the feedback. I am however a female, not a male (fyi) and what I meant by being REALLY hungry was that in today's world, we often don't wait until we are hungry but eat all the time, therefore forgetting what is really like to feel hunger and satisfy it. Perhaps I was not clear enough. Also, blowing 'smoke up your ass' was not my intention ;)
- krellor, on 04/30/2008, -3/+17Holy reply failure batman!!!
- LeonidasStokely, on 04/30/2008, -6/+2So you're tracking the progress of your Digg article's comments?
Working hard?- ChronicColonic, on 04/30/2008, -0/+11Wouldn't you?
- wellyuk, on 04/30/2008, -2/+3You can blow smoke up my ass any time.
- TrevorBelmont, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2I think that readers assumed you were a man because of that big disgusting photo of pasty, furry, hobbity, man feet at the opening of the article. That photo was a little too intimate and real for feet, in my opinion. It made thee article smell a little bit musty as well.
- DSPoh, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4Hasn't research proved that it does not matter what time of day you eat as long as you stay under a 2,000 calorie limit and exercise?
"Fact: It does not matter what time of day you eat. It is what and how much you eat and how much physical activity you do during the whole day that determines whether you gain, lose, or maintain your weight. No matter when you eat, your body will store extra calories as fat." From: http://win.niddk.nih.gov/publications/myths.htm about halfway down the page.- Jodie1234, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Like I said... its just my advice. It works for me.
- nomadofthehills, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Not entirely true... you can get into insulin spikes and resistance, etc. In fact, for many people, eating under 2000 kcals a day will impede weight loss.
- NICU, on 04/30/2008, -2/+9I'd add a simple idea: eat healthy parts of your meal first, start with protein and vegetables and eat bread/potatoes/fries if you're still hungry. Make sure you eat all of the beneficial foods before the empty calories.
- skellener, on 04/30/2008, -1/+8Skip the fries all together.
- h4k0r, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Skip the unhealthy parts of the meal altogether. If you eat small meals 5-6 tims a day there isn't a need to have those unhealthy options on your plate. Eating in this sort of fashion will actually boost metabolism, and add a work out routine to this and you could possibly loose weight while you sleep.
- NICU, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1At most restaurants fries/potatoes come with every meal, and very few people will ask for their meal without those kinds of foods. So for the guys who think its unmanly to ask for more veggies instead of fries they can at least save them for the end if they're still hungry.
- mikkee07, on 04/30/2008, -2/+3Dugg for interesting material and Kevin's photo.
- svtspeed, on 04/30/2008, -4/+57My surefire way to loose ten pounds guaranteed.
1. Eat less
2. Exercise more
Any questions?- BXRWXR, on 04/30/2008, -2/+2Nope. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
- NoCt1, on 04/30/2008, -0/+17Dont eat less. Eat healthier.. If you exercise more youll make muscle and that needs the protein.. and then itll burn off the fat for you.. So dont starve it or your body wll turn to your muscle before the fat..
- Duositex, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4The point is simple physics: if you use more energy (exercise) than you add to the system (your body) you'll see a decrease in the amount of stored energy (fat) in that system.
- chrisaug18, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3Where do I sign up? Who do I address the cheque to?
- lewhich, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3Nope ... Its not just eat less ... less than what?
Eat less food than your body requires to operate daily (eat less calories than the amount your body burns)
Excess calories => stored as fat
Less calories => stored fat gets converted to the energy your body needs (thereby reducing total body fat) - skellener, on 04/30/2008, -1/+81. Eat better.
2. Exercise more. - Niubai, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4Personal Experience: I eat like a horse, everyday: breakfast, lunch and dinner. But I have a fit and strong body, why ? Because I spend more than 2 hours/day working out. One hour at morning at gym and one hour running at night. I've been on this for the last 5 years, and I can say: when you have a lot of muscles, you can eat a lot more. I know it kinda looks hard to spend all this hours just exercising, and it was hard at the beginning, but when you get used to and start to like ... you just need it. The thing becomes part of your basic needs.
- leerayIG88, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1muscles? Well....I have a gun. You can't beat me.
- patik, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Something to remember about time -- either make time for exercise now, or make time for chronic illness later.
- negative3, on 04/30/2008, -2/+2I've seen "exercise more" fail for so many people. They do simple crap that doesn't get their heart rate up. However, I have seen running work for everyone every time. 3 miles (however slow you have to go to do it non-stop is fine) 4 times a week will work.
This will get females to a point where guys are attracted to them, and even females will want to be their friend and treat them with more respect. Once you are running to maintain rather than gain, you need to add strength training. Guys love lower body strength, so get on the leg machines. Don't be afraid to lift some serious weight on them either. Just because you are female doesn't mean you need to lift 40 lbs on a leg machine, crank it up to 100. If you have the right amount of lower body strength, guys won't be able to resist you. However when you run, make sure it is in a very safe place, and bring a dog if need be. And for the record I will add, something that makes hot women in the gym even hotter is that they seem so intelligent, its like they know how to get what they want, and they are doing it! They have come to terms with reality and are motivated. Very sexy!
For guys, looks are less important. Attitude, money, and friends are most important. But there are still things to do to improve on looks. Having strong arms might be important to females, but usually only because it makes you fit a certain stereotype, they are not an ends in themselves. Women like strong backs and butts. You want your ass to pertrude some. However, equipment that specializes in serious ass building for men can be rare and often poorly designed. This is in part because 99.999% of men don't even think about their ass. You might need to get creative. If your ass isn't sore and your not steadily moving up in weight, then you are not doing it right. Spend 50% of your effort on you butt, 20% on your back, 20% on your legs, and 10% on your arms. And if you are fat, lose wight first by running. Just remember though that attitude, money, and friends come first, which can be a harsh reality for many guys in the gym.- Seizure, on 05/01/2008, -1/+2Someone cares too much?
- Whadabala, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Disclaimer: Negative3 has no idea what the ***** he is talking aboot.
- danielpyle, on 04/30/2008, -4/+3Sure fire way to lose ten pounds? Remove that lump from your neck that has been causing you all the weight control issues over the years.....

- krellor, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4Lymph nodes? I really don't know what lump your referring to.
- AliviaWithAnA, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1You wouldn't be alive to enjoy the weight loss, so that's counterproductive.

Pick heavy stuff up off the floor.
Sleep. - 1google1, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2And remember, if you're not sure about something, rub it against a piece of paper. If the paper turns clear, it's your window to weight gain

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHXLL3VwhHM - sagat, on 04/30/2008, -0/+16I don't mind losing ten pounds but losing 10 years isn't quite so appealing.
- citrusfizz, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Well, it actually means lose ten pounds AND ten years. There is no time frame established on how long this article thinks it will take.
- arkaycee, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4My g/f says "45 is the new 25 ... but that's creepy if it means that 25 is the new 5."
- RajAtWork, on 04/30/2008, -1/+3Anyone on a typical American diet can lose 10 pounds by simply paying attention to what you eat
- brstilson, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Or exercising
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/30/2008, -1/+7I pay attention to every french fry and piece of candy that goes into my mouth!
- fuzzynyanko, on 04/30/2008, -2/+3He should check out White Wheat. It's not exactly white bread, but it's soft, sweeter, and tastes really close to white bread.
- matthewf01, on 04/30/2008, -2/+4White bread tastes like ass anyway.
Makes me feel like I'm a seven-year old whose homemaker mom made me a cheese sandwich and it's the 1960's and I live in a shotgun house and eat Wonderbread and listen to my favorite radio program every night while my father gums his corncob pipe and I could go on
Don't like white bread.
- matthewf01, on 04/30/2008, -2/+4White bread tastes like ass anyway.
- michael43, on 04/30/2008, -1/+6My doctor recommended that I get on a low sugar diet because of my family history. I've basically been following the diet in the article. I stopped eating bread and switched to green tea instead of coke and I've lost 15 pounds in a month. I weighed 215 at the start and although I'm pretty tall and could pull it off, I do feel better at 200. I'm going to try for 185 and see how good that feels..:)
- pegothejerk, on 04/30/2008, -0/+5Similiar story. My liver was crapping out, so I cut out beer (along with all alcohol), and got back to working out again. Add on lots of fish, chicken instead of fried foods or fast foods (nearly always the same), and I lost 20 lbs in a month. From 190 to 170. My liver is fine, no sign of diabetes (runs in the family), I'm sick less often (actually illness free since), and I feel more alive. That last one is hard to quantify, but is 100% true. Peoples genes make a perfect diet impossible to put into a list, but there are certain general rules that can be touched upon. Jodie1234 did a decent job, if a little full of positive thinking power for my taste. I recommend people give it a shot, if you're serious about change. If something doesn't work, work around it. Learning to adapt is the most important part of any series of changes.
- captaindigger, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1So What?
- roomforpanic, on 04/30/2008, -4/+27So could a 10lb 10 year-old establish non-existence with this method?
- shaka999, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3I don't know many 10lb 10 year-olds
- zomgwaffles, on 04/30/2008, -0/+22i think a ten year old that weighs only 10 pounds is already well on his way to not existing
- jerrolds, on 04/30/2008, -6/+4I'll probably be dug down for this but - I'm surprised - but these are pretty much right on the money. Only thing I can think of is to encourage an intense strength training program, the total body circuit training types and/or intense aerobic (plyometrics, sprint training) that promotes HGH production naturally.
- TexasShiv, on 04/30/2008, -2/+7Eating after a certain time does nothing. In the end, its the amount of calories you take in vs. the amount of calories you expend. You're basal metabolic rate does not slow during sleep. Just because you ate before you went to sleep, does not mean that this will be turned into fat. You're body simply doesn't work like that. If you want to eat after 9 P.M., it doesn't matter. You will sleep better, but thats about it.
- shaka999, on 04/30/2008, -5/+1References?
- DrMatt, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2I find it interesting that someone is asking for references for this comment (which is true) and not for references for the statement that you shouldn't eat after 9pm.
- TexasShiv, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2I'm a Biochemistry major (4th) year. I could reference my text, and I'm also in a Nutrition class currently. But if you must
http://www.news-medical.net/?id=15862- astland27, on 04/30/2008, -1/+0Logged in to say that you are full of ****.... Everyone knows that .... oh, an article that says you're right and I should go back to work fixing computers. Actually typed this to offer you a rare, fully authentic internet "neener neener neener, I'm smarter than you" moment.
- steffanieblack, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Your basal metabolism may not change, so yeah, you are still going to burn calories. The difference is that if you eat before 9:00 you are more likely to actually do something to burn more calories, whereas the later you eat, the less likely you are to do a moving activity. Also, sleeping with a full stomach can be uncomfortable, which is one of the points that she makes, since digestion slows down while you are asleep.

- xsquirrel378x, on 04/30/2008, -2/+2just try and eat and drink ***** that's natural. put stuff in your body that your body can understand. garbage in, garbage out.
- brstilson, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2Guinness Draught is a remarkably low-calorie beer as well. Only 126 calories, which is just slightly more than a Bud Light.

- frostbyt, on 04/30/2008, -4/+12Here are the answers in 2 easy steps
1. Exercise every day for 1 hour (Cardio, weights, walking, anything...)
2. Eat Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and less than 8 oz of meat (Cut all the cheese, bacon, fried stuff out of your life)
I lost 15 pounds and I am down to 8% body fat in 4 weeks.
It's not a diet, it's a way of life.- eryximachus, on 04/30/2008, -1/+5If I ate less than 8 ounces of meat per day, I'd lose 8% muscle mass in 4 weeks.
It depends what your goals are.- Rizmaster, on 04/30/2008, -1/+2Not if you were eating enough protein and carbs to maintain that muscle mass. Meat isn't the only source thereof.
I get 21 grams of protein in a 12 ounce can each morning. The steak I eat at dinner doesn't do me as much good.- eryximachus, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1that is low quality, chemically processed crap.
I'll take the real thing, thanks.- Rizmaster, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Meat is processed too, my friend.
Much more importantly, the chemicals you're talking about aren't magically generated by meat. You're eating the left overs in the animal's body after it ate the actual SOURCES of protein and carbs.
You're bouncing around with no actual argument. First you said you'd lose muscle mass if you didn't eat meat. I told you you wouldn't. Now you're arguing that you prefer meat to other foods, which is irrelevant to your previous argument. As far as "quality" there's no such thing. Either you are getting the proteins or you are not getting the proteins.
All of the above basically adds up to your not having ANY idea as to what we're talking about. - eryximachus, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Rizmaster:
1) The meat I eat is not processed. I belong to a food co-op that sources its meat from facilities they have inspected and with which they have a relationship. I also hunt and frequently eat meat from animals I personally have slaughtered and prepared.
2) I haven't made an argument, and neither have you. I gave you an opinion based on your response. If you want to eat your food out of a can, so be it. You're obviously a freak militant vegan. Why would I bother arguing with the likes of you? - Rizmaster, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Yeah, because so many freak militant vegans eat steak?
You can't understand a viewpoint that is different than yours unless it comes from a "freak militant vegan"?
The meat itself may not be processed, but the nutrients therein ARE. They were processed by the animal, which did NOT generate them, simply ate them in the form of something else. No matter how you get said meat, the protein didn't originate there. And you've proved to us both how unnatural it is, considering you had to prepare it. Lions don't prepare meat, they just rip up their prey and eat it. If you start eating deer straight off the bone after killing it with your bare hands, then I will agree that's a more normal source of protein than another.
You aren't arguing because you can't. If you could you wouldn't be flailing around like an uninformed hillbilly, you would have something relatively intelligent to say. - eryximachus, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Rizmaster, you are delusional. You don't understand anything about protein biosynthesis. The process by which DNA is used to make protein is the same in plants and animals. There is no difference. Your definition of "processed" is so wildly different than anything I have ever heard from a sane person I can barely stop laughing. I can't possibly argue with you because the statements you have made defy anything remotely comprehensible.
Your characterization of me is also so far off the mark, you couldn't be more wrong. I live in Brooklyn and belong to the largest, and oldest continually operated food co-op in the US. I have heard it all, and trust me - you are not even remotely in line with the most radical, obsessive food types I have met. So please, if you are going to try and get me to spend more than a brief moment thinking about anything you have just said, you'll have to try a bit harder.
- Rizmaster, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3Meat is processed too, my friend.
- eryximachus, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1that is low quality, chemically processed crap.

- bieber, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4Dugg for "It's a way of life." It really is a matter of lifestyle. If you just get used to doing these things, it's not a problem. If working out and eating healthy are exotic, strange things that you're forcing yourself to do for some transient goal, then it's gonna be a relapse-recovery cycle that will go on for the rest of your life.
- eryximachus, on 04/30/2008, -1/+5If I ate less than 8 ounces of meat per day, I'd lose 8% muscle mass in 4 weeks.
- gabish, on 04/30/2008, -9/+3Although this is a good article, most of this is NOT common sense, and yes this is a diet. This author is being a bit of an elitist.
- sereth, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4Actually it is common sense when you actually take the time to learn basic nutrition. It is not common sense to the people who refuse to read or deal with their eating habits. The solution to obesity is simple yet people don't want to make the effort. The real problem is the food industry and farm subsidies in this country that make it a chore to eat properly in this country. There is a serious problem when you can by Dinty Moore soup and meat at .40 a can but you can't get fresh vegetables without going broke.
I've been fortunate to be thin all my life but recently I started to change and add weight. My diet was crap..I was being lazy. 45 days after changing my eating and exercising , I;ve gotten into the best shape of my life. No magic..just eat healthy and exercise at least 1 hour a day. Your body is an investment ..start treating it like one.
- sereth, on 04/30/2008, -0/+4Actually it is common sense when you actually take the time to learn basic nutrition. - thentro, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4Why do people think brown rice is some magic new food? Just don't eat too much of either and you are fine. Cut from Wikipedia:
"Brown rice and white rice have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein. The difference between the two lies in processing and nutritional content. If the outermost layer of a grain of rice (the husk) is removed, the result is brown rice. If the bran layer underneath is removed, the result is white rice. Several vitamins and dietary minerals are lost in this removal and the subsequent polishing process."- sereth, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Slow absorption vs. fast. Brown rice takes longer and is less likely to be converted and stored as fat(energy) That's why people perceive carbs as bad..the bad part comes when the body can convert the carb to sugar so fast that it can't use it up so it ends up storing it as fat. The slow carbs..brown rice..oatmeal etc get absorbed at a rate that allows the body to use them on demand.
Thats the issue - Densetsu, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2The difference is... fiber. It makes you feel full longer, which in the long run should lead to you eating less often. Same goes for brown vs white bread and sweet vs white potatoes.

done and DONE
Now for the other 9... lets see.... number 3: Go Nutty for Nuts. That should be easy enough. Off to the bar! Oh wait, drinking beer while eating nuts might what that one meant.
Oh well, I guess I will just have to remain fat. Those commandments are too hard. - kcirtap6075, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1OGC = weight loss?

- RadiatedAnt, on 04/30/2008, -1/+4This article is dead on. It's true I follow the same diet plan eating 80% healthy and 20% what ever the hell you want. I was up from 210 max down to 148lbs. Just exercise at least 10 hours a week and have common sense when you eat. If you feel guilty eating certain foods it's prob gonna make you fat.
- DrMatt, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3Exercising 10 hours a week seems a bit excessive (not to go from 210 to 148 though). 30 mins a day is a good start. Hell... walking around the block once a day is a great start!
- Rizmaster, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Walking a block shouldn't be "exercise" though. It should be "Getting from A to B like a normal non-fatass" and it isn't enough to really change your lifestyle. It's definitely a major component in body health but isn't itself exercise. A warm up before lifting weights or running perhaps, but not the goal.

- msctg, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1i lost alot alotta weight a couple years ago - and I can honestly say I had tried everything with so little success (not none - just very little). i should also admit that my self-discipline levels are kinda low - which didn't help. the one trick that really did seem to make a difference was not eating after 9 or ten - and actually exercising before bed. I think the reason it worked was b/c it burned those "extra" calories that usually go to sleep with you and haunt you then next morning, and as an added bonus - exercise post-dinner revs your metabolism when your body is going into hibernation. definitely - best dieting trick ever. (also - when you exercise - you lose those evening cravings)

- bieber, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Are you kidding me? If you really object to eating meat, then by all means go vegetarian. But if you think it's gonna magically make you healthy, think again: meat is a crucial part of the human diet (ever notice those incisors in the front of your mouth?) If you don't eat meat, you have to make sure you're practicing due diligence to replace all the proteins and nutrients that it normally brings to your diet, even more so if you want to go totally vegan.
- Rizmaster, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1Incisors are for breaking difficult things like stalks and nuts down. If you look at the teeth of any carnivorous animal, they don't have 1 set of sharp teeth, they have a mouth full of ***** steak knives.
Also, if we're talking mouth structure, most carnivores have jaws that go forward and back to rip meat up, whereas ours go left and right to grind.
Don't pull ***** out of your ass about how we're meat eaters for any reason other than personal choice, because you've got no basis for it. I enjoy meat, I eat meat because it tastes good, but I don't claim to have it in my genetic code. If I did I wouldn't have to burn it with fire to avoid disease.

The Hacker's Diet

http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/www/hackdiet.html - cheesypasta, on 04/30/2008, -0/+6As for #4, not everyone likes fish or don't want to spend the time preparing it. You can get your Omega 3 from flax seed meal (usually in the health or organic section of the grocery store) and just throw some on your cereal or oatmeal. It doesn't really change the taste, it just adds a little nutty flavor to it.
- thespiff, on 04/30/2008, -2/+2Oh come on, that list are just a collection of fads. The hard science backing that stuff up is minimal, and the actual impact of say, increasing antioxidants is much less significant on your health than say, drinking less soda.

- cdahlkvist, on 04/30/2008, -0/+5As I posted on the original site, there are some fallacies listed in this article so I'd like to clear them up:
Flour, not white flour specifically, breaks down into sugar as do any carbohydrates. All carbohydrates are chains of sugar. They can be starches and even fiber.
The problem with white flour is that it is a simple sugar meaning it's broken down more rapidly than whole wheat flour which contains long chains of sugar (Resistant starches). Whole wheat flour is subject to the same process of being broken down into simple sugars. It just breaks down a bit slower and leaves the fiber behind which is a bit more healthy.
Green tea fights cancer? Nope, no direct evidence. Japan has low incidence of cancer and drink a lot of green tea, but they also get a lot of fish with healthy cancer-fighting Omega-3 fatty acids. Massive amounts of green tea to mice can help reduce their cancer, but this equates to gallons of green tea per day for humans.
The Acai (ah-sah-ee) berry is actually the healthiest fruit.
Acai berries also have the health-giving omega 6 and omega 9 fatty acids, rarely found in fruit, are low in calories and contain fiber, calcium and vitamins. Doctors say they help to fight leukemia and premature aging and the berries are even believed to increase libido. A study by the University of Florida showed that extracts from the berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86 per cent of cultured leukemia cells tested.

http://www.acai.vg/acai_nutrition.html - CaptainHarlock, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1I'd much rather die young and happy eating whatever I like than live a really long time, forget who everyone is, complain about my broken hip, and have to wear diapers.
- queenstarsha, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1you get a weak brain, weak bones, and weak... muscles by being lazy and eating a bunch of *****. you're not going to die of your bad habits while you're young. you'll die of them when you're exactly the kind of miserable you don't want to be. my grandma eats right, stays mentally engaged, and exercises and she's sharp and healthy at 85.
- cheesypasta, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I just want to live long enough to see flying cars. I don't care if I have to wear diapers dammit, I want my flying car!
- patik, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1No, you don't. You'll die slowly (over the course of years) and you'll feel like crap for much of your life. Being healthy and in shape just makes everything better -- you almost always feel good and no activity is a chore to do.
- glenn2041, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1I lost 30kg (66 pounds) by reducing my calorie & saturated fat intake on Weightwatchers. Other fats are fine. You can still have any food you want (within reason) , and I did no exercise!
- Takfam, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2Buried for advocating the "reverse diet" gimmick. Any and all trick diets are a load of crap. In fact, all of step 6 is crap. "Can you remember the last time you were really hungry?" Yes, I can, it was yesterday around 11:30 and I had to take my lunch early because I was getting serious stomach cramps. Not a feeling I want to wake up with because of your gimmicky crap reverse diet.
You chose to advocate a gimmick instead of placing in one of the cornerstones of fitness: HYDRATION. That, coupled with a lack of before and after pics of your supposed 21 year old face on a 36 year old body, prevents me from taking this article seriously. - bdbr, on 04/30/2008, -0/+5I find this article to be the typical way-too-upbeat article about the wonders of pounding the pavement and eating food that tastes like pavement. Its too easy to lose that "rah rah" attitude and slip into old habits. My advice is just to realize that the things in life that really mean anything are usually the things that aren't easy. Exercising regularly and eating right are hard things to do, but its all part of keeping yourself looking and feeling reasonably good. Our bodies aren't evolved for this high-calorie sedentary lifestyle, and they require some upkeep.
- asnider, on 04/30/2008, -0/+5Did anyone else read the title as "10 Commandments for Dropping 10 Pounds IN 10 Years?" I saw that and thought, "What the *****? Useless much?"
