"THERE'S A ***** VIRUS ON THIS ***** SHIP!" - AquaOSX, on 03/01/2009, -9/+46Note to vacation lovers:
Cruise ships are disgusting. - AJanitor, on 03/02/2009, -1/+18I'm on boat! I'm on a boat! Everybody look at me, cause I'm on a f*^$%%$ boat!
- CheeseBiscuits, on 03/02/2009, -0/+13In related news, Madagascar just closed down all its ports.
- sockpuppets, on 03/02/2009, -1/+14I bet you're real fun at parties, karaoke nazi.
- namochan, on 03/01/2009, -2/+14Love Boat soon will be making another run
The Love Boat promises something for everyone - Rogor, on 03/02/2009, -1/+10The sickest ive ever felt in my life is from Norovirus, only time ive ever called an ambulance because I thought I was dieing, I wrote my farewell messages on the bathroom floor using puddle water just before I blacked out. My final thoughts were wondering how long the messages would hang around before evaporating and if the ambulance people would notice the messages or stomp all over them. Lost all feeling in my arms and legs during the night. The next day woke up feeling washed out but fine, never had anything hit so hard and leave so quick.
- Slash0, on 03/02/2009, -0/+9I was on a Holland America boat two weeks ago. It was anything but disgusting... but damn am I glad this didn't happen to us.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+9I dont know if wikipedia is accurate but.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norovirus
Norovirus causes acute gastroenteritis that develops between 24 and 48 hours after exposure with a median of 33-36 hours, and lasts for 24-60 hours
That cruise must have been a living nightmare. - sockpuppets, on 03/02/2009, -0/+8I'd prefer a zombie apocalypse on a cruise ship. I'd call it 7 days and 6 nights.
- AstroZombie138, on 03/02/2009, -0/+7This happens a lot on cruise ships, typically because people don't wash their hands prior to eating, and because of open buffets where people don't practice sanitary serving habits (i.e. kids touching food and then putting it back).
I haven't been on a cruise in a few years, but on the last one there was someone standing at the front of the restaurant with a giant bottle of hand sanitizer asking everyone to please use some. I thought it was a good idea. - KMartSheriff, on 03/02/2009, -0/+7Disgusting? What Cruise ship did you go on? Cruises are awesome. The only disgusting part is the price.
- 11PM, on 03/02/2009, -3/+10Time to turn it into a flesh-eating virus and make it into a blockbuster horror flick. Am I right or am I right?
- Smyley, on 03/02/2009, -0/+6Check in the couch cushions.
- jehan60188, on 03/02/2009, -0/+6from wikipedia: "The viruses are transmitted by faecally contaminated food or water and by person-to-person contact."
- Munk3y, on 03/02/2009, -0/+6"Bill are you in there? I hope you're not using the toilet, it's out of order."
- prometheusg, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5This is a very common occurrence on cruise ships. I worked on one last year for four months. There were three separate outbreaks of norovirus in that time. I think the worst one hit roughly 80 passengers and 40 crew. It spreads so quickly in such confined space that it's practically impossible to prevent. We would confine the affected crew and passengers to their cabins. We also took extra sanitary precautions with food preparation and serving until the crisis was over.
And it SUCKS. I never got it, but I know people who did. It's like a visit from Death. He's just checking in to see if you remember who he is. You get fluids coming out of every hole you have, almost constantly. - prometheusg, on 03/02/2009, -0/+5Yes, the hand sanitizer thing is required by law I believe (cruise ship employee last year). It goes for both the passengers and crew, and it's specifically to combat norovirus; the most common cuise ship sickness.
- rittz, on 03/02/2009, -1/+6Does anyone know where I left my TV remote?
- dsanonline, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4And to think ... this could've been prevented had people washed their hands before handling food products.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4Set a course for adventure,
Your mind on a new romance. - Gr1nch, on 03/02/2009, -2/+6They were on a boat *****, don't you ever forget.
- sockpuppets, on 03/02/2009, -0/+4Congratulations, you have no life.
- deema1, on 03/02/2009, -2/+6Screw Tom Cruise and his Norovirus-infested ships.
- inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3so is mexico.
- macmcraeart, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3What did you eat? The chicken or the fish?
- Rogor, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Actually funny enough I dont think there is any treatment and in my case it was gone the next day, Its a really short acting virus but really contagious, everything around you becomes infected.
- benitojuarez, on 03/02/2009, -1/+3I went on the zuiderdam in july 05 that ship while more for an older crowd was really nice and classy, they even had art auctions. sucks for them because i just got a letter from them with rock bottom prices, i don't think ill take them up on it anymore.
- Stoyanov, on 03/02/2009, -4/+6There were originally 108 passengers.
- admiraljustin, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2It was always awesome if you could manage to start there and spread it somewhere before things shut down.
- SetUpUsTheBmb, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2I've been on that ship its so tight
- Elderon, on 03/02/2009, -1/+3Technically you fail, prettyawesome.
They were not on a sailing vessel, but a cruise ship. so yeah the first poster was correct in his lyrics. or I'm cruising on a boat... whatever I'm tired. - jseres, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2AND I JIZZED IN... MY PANTS..!
- scalded, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Yes, yes, I remember, I had lasagna
- astrotrain, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2And Loooove....
So Exciting and new...
Come aboard... you'll get infected tooooooo. - inactive, on 03/02/2009, -1/+3
- 2of8, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2I'm wondering if it's better to have someone standing there enforcing sanitizer use, or someone standing there enforcing sanitary serving habits. (i.e. don't let kids put food back)
- astrotrain, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1...that's probably how they first came in contact with the virus.
Face it, a lot of people around that food, a lot of people preparing it. Nobody washes their hands after going to the potty, or handing raw meats, you have yourself a virus buffet. - astrotrain, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1a tale of a frightening trip,
that started from a Meixcan Port,
that caused a lot of *****. - renesisx, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1I had it last year. It is pretty horrific. It is basically like your body is trying to eject all your internal organs through any and all available orifices. At the same time.
- jseres, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1On Holland America it would be quite possible. Also around 80 to 90% of them would be over the age of 80.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1WASH YOUR HANDS and to further prevent illness...WASH ALL SURFACES...
- astrotrain, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1National Lampoons ***** Vacation.... the Griswalds take a cruise to Mexico....
- docbob84, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1The hand sanitizers. The viruses don't even have to be on the food; think of how soon you touch a pair of tongs after the person in front of you, for example. Have them everybody squirt some sanitizer on their hands before they even get to the food line, or they don't eat. Simple enough.
- JakeyG14, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1They're gonna need a bigger boat.
- kahoona1, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1I take it they didn't make it to the midnight buffet?
- emitemirp, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1I went on my first cruise last November and for the first four days it was mandatory to use hand sanitizer prior to entering any eating facility (restaurant or buffet). It seems there were a few incidences of norovirus in other cruises and my cruise line was playing it safe for a few days.
2of8: My cruise line had a person enforcing the sanitizer use and had several people behind the buffet watching over people to ensure sanitary serving habits. - HallenbeckJoe, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1oh *****!
- Therion596, on 03/02/2009, -2/+3I'M ON A BOAT, MOTHA *****, VOMITING AND *****!
Yeah, I can see why they didn't go with those lyrics... - inactive, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Guests who demonstrated symptoms were asked to remain in their cabins until symptoms disappeared... Sounds like a slave ship
