- Robubie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6YES, but how does it taste?
- MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Like chicken...
I've seen this before, but it had a video with it. I found this, but it's not the same clip I saw before: http://www.demo.com/demonstrators/demo2006/63039.html - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7MTV and Cola. I love you. MTV Sucks and Cola is bad for your body :(. WE TEENIES ARE SMART!!!1
I'm just curious on how old you are to bring the funniest stereotype even my mother couldn't come up with. - 3lite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5since when did geek power enable you to attract women in any way? ;-D
- DrummerGirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4PopSci link with video:

- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thou shalt not create a machine in the likeness of a human mind! JIHAD!!!!!!!!!!
- DuffDemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4 "you just might consider replacing your cat"
I can't see that happening unless it can also sleep for 23 out of 24 hours a day and p*ss in your shoes. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And let me guess, it walks as poorly as that ***** Robosapien that costs $400?
- boycy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The question is, where is the USB port?? :D
- Silencer7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This really does look lame. I don't need a sneezing robot.
If I ever get lonely enough to want a 'pet' like this, I think I'm in serious trouble that a toy won't fix..
And last I checked, cats are much cheaper to make. - scott1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Form the creator of Furby?!?! I sitll don't understand why people but those annoying Ewok-Gugan-Yoda-Wookiee hybrid.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We must use Geek Power and hack this to attract females.
- gallamine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I run a blog devoted to Pleo over at
http://www.pleobot.com
I'm anxiously waiting for the marketing gears to start turning out more information. Things have been pretty spotty over the past couple of months. But, for $200 a pop, I might just have to buy two. These little guys look awesome. I can't wait to start hacking! - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+222... i guess i can go buy one, once they're released. (mtv 2... the uk version is pretty good, i don't watch normal mtv though it's *****)
- CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember when I first had furbies as a little kid. I thought that they could learn from what you speak...hey...after all...the CIA (or was it FBI) banned them from their officies fearing they might record what you speak...
I was quickly disapointed when I found out it was nothing more than a tamagochi with some features added wrapped in cheap furr. To top it off, my sister's broke after about two days. The mouth locked up and it started emitting faint smells of smoke. And to think people were paying $500 for one. - MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I ran out of edit time, but I remembered it because it was on engadget two months ago:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/09/video-of-pleo-the-dinobot-in-action/ - dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"...eight processors that can handle a collective 60 million calculations per second."
Remember the 80's? - voodoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this toy/robopet is going to sell as much or more than the furby did
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hey...maybe the big corporations can come up with a robot president to run USA, inc.
Oh wait.... - synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope that consumer robotics experience the same rapid growth and advancement that videogames have. If the Furby was the robotic equivalent of an NES, then the Pleo is most likely a SNES. With any luck, this toy will take off and prompt other companies to develop similar products, spurring a 'robot race' similar to the console wars.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd still rather have an Aibo. I can't wait until those come down in price. Rather have a dog than a dino.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pretty cool.. Here is a site with more information.. Apears to be the corporate site.
http://www.ugobe.com/pleo/index.html - EricTheGrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2K-9 was smarter. :P

- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2click on the popsci link and click on the pleo image and find out there is a video there (QT)
- abbtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL everything tastes like chicken (well with a hint of rubber perhaps...)
There is an additional video not yet mentioned here:
http://forum.hackedgadgets.com/viewtopic.php?p=142#142 - Madnesswithin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And I thought I would always be pleased with my son's RoboRaptor.
- Hardataq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And new from Furbytech, it's the PLEO. The first robotic dinosaur you can watch without having to put up with Jeff Goldblum."
- noodhoog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt prices will come down, unless it's for clearance or second hand.
Sony announced that they were disbanding their AIBO (and worse still QRIO) divisions a while back. So.. no new AIBOs :(
couple of references:

http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/26/sony-killed-aibo-and-qrio/ - ronk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Furby is the most annoying toy I have ever seen. The ad for furby said that it "learned" your actions but nothing happened. - hope this toy is not like that.
- baudbwoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very cool, lots of "iRobot-ie" references during there presentation=cheesy, but the toy is cool. I'm wondering what age group this toy will be geared towards as to me it seems very fragile and requires lots of patience. Still I can see big things.
- whoutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The dino looks like something in my toilet after I take a dump.
- baudbwoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1make sure when you geeks hack this thing diggites is the first to know, I'd be very interested to see this thing running or some other crazy things.
- tdkme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My nephew got the Robotic T-rex that was the follow up to the robo sapien. It was pretty decent, but if this is an improvement, then that will drives him out of his mind! Next we will have robot dino wars!
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"YES, but how does it taste?"
"Like chicken..."
You mean... Robot Chicken! ;)
(It is a good show nonetheless) - kunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1something bad is gonna happen and when it does it'll be like of course it broke figures
- GrFxGrL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1must... get.... pleo... I bought my daughter one of the RoboRaptors, and it was fun.. but it was also very fragile. She's older now, and I think she'd treat the Pleo better.. not to mention, it's a lot cheaper than the stupid dog we have, and I bet it won't pee on my furniture.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It acts about a week old.. I'm not impressed. I'll just keep my cats if you don't mind.....
Cyborg
nah - jguerry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Question 1: how hard does it bite?
i could see a good use for this toy if i can get it chomp a few fingers off...
Question 2: and why is it so damn slow? they need to make a crackhead version of this bot.
Question 3: and will it imitate the people it is around? can it jump after seeing me jump for say a month? will it fetch? i.e. can it learn? - Bleakvoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, the newest generation Furbies are a good platform for hacking, from what I understand...it was here on Digg a while back. This one looks like it may be a bit complex to screw with, though...not to mention expensive.
- mydave, on 08/02/2008, -0/+0very cool. I like this robotics. they are look so interesting. I want to see the mechanism of work.

http://blog.ashtech.info/2007/10/16/ - kayla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What is all of this robot pet junk. There are real pets out there that need to be adopted. There's no need to mass produce plastic ones.
- jonno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0makes a good paperweight to have on your desk. if you throw it at someone it will probably walk back.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1sapo916: exactly.
frem001: ...uuhh.. i don't know what to say. you're.. you're just...uhh.. - mutequacky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0stoopid machines. trying to replace real pets. :(
- kcaffrey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would be a lot more impressed if it werent for the fact that Pleo does the exact same thing in all 3 videos I saw on it (the demo site, engadget, and popsci).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1But does it run linux?
I for one, welcome our robot overlords.
Ok enought /.
That is an ugly ass robot. At least make it look cool, I don't think I would take it for free (well, I would, but I wouldn't pay much for it).
