- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+147I can almost hear the oncoming stampede of one-uppers: "That's nothing! ..."
- JAGUART, on 10/12/2007, -0/+89Canned air? Try a leaf blower.
- MagicalTrevor2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+96Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69@glock: Was the owner a smoker?
I've seen that happen too. On mini-towers, you can even get cigarette-tar-and-dust salactites forming in there. Talk about gross... - glock22ownr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+66Dude you think thats bad? I had someone bring me a computer that smelled like piss! I have seen em dirty, slow, virus infested, parts missing because someone tried to vaccuum ... (yeah... i know)... but that was a first.
- shifty2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59please tell you took that outside and hit it with some canned air
thats not as bad as my neighbor who insisted on having her computer in the kitchen... roaches nested in it and *pop* fried the whole damn thing... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52put. the. crack pipe. down.
- Kericr, on 10/12/2007, -15/+64"please tell you took that outside and hit it with some canned air"
Yeah, a can of canned air wasn't going to do it on this bad boy. Try a can of tornadoes...or a can of Rush Limbaugh. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+52Did a photo of a dirty PC just make it to the front page?
- megaloid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50How did they taste?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49It's much worse if you don't clean out your XP install for 10 years...
- oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47i had an ex that worked for geek squad, she'd tell me all kinds of crazy things they'd find when they opened computers. Some of them that top the list i can think of are plants..(someone had vines on the inside of the case) live roaches, gobs and gobs animal hair, and one guy she worked with found a dead mouse.
- zeero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49^ nerds
- bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43I was working as the PC repair guy at Staples once and received a computer with complaints that its disk drives don't work. Upon opening it I discovered the whole interior was filled with spider webs and dead baby cockroachs. My friend and I had to shake it out over a trashcan. The reason the disk drives didn't work? Dead baby cockroachs inside of it.
- eshiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35I bought my first computer used... and when i opened it up for the first time to upgrade it I found a starfish... i'm being completely serious too...
- vinylking, on 10/12/2007, -30/+61I once had this computer, it was a smaller computer not as much as i always i wanted one. I went to the store one day and saw this dust bunny on the floor so I picked it up and blew it out, i breathed in then breathed out. It then flew out everywhere, I's sure didn't knows where it went. I then took a step back and a step forward. It's almost like i was walking. A man said hey! you what do you think your doing? So i said nothing sir.
So then i went home to my house and i went on my computer, it said clean my case on the monitor, so i said ok and i opendeded my case and nothing was there but dust, so i guess something was there LOL and then i went to the store to buy some canned air the air was canned so i baught it and went home to spray the canned air into my case. the dust flew everywhere and went into my eyes. i could not see for a wile it stung so much. it felt like razor blades in my eyeses. so then i went to eat some eggs and i had no more milk so i went outside and got a cow, the cow said moo. their was a bigger cow, but this cow was brown and it only had one hooter, it was very long. i touched it and it sprayed on me, it didn't taste like regular milk. but i still cant believe where those dust bunnys came from. i aint believein it. - livejamie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35wow this made the front page?
i better go take a picture of my backyard, there's a lot of weeds that are probably 10 years old as well! - Lark7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28That's one of the few comments I've seen worth reading.
- danamania, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27I'm reminded of this dustbucket found somewhere online years ago
http://www.danamania.com/temp/dirty.jpg - oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27college students or imacs?
- Araxen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I think there is just dust over his comment, that's why you can't see it.
- cottees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Easy way to tell if a computer owner is a smoker or not, dust inside the computer of a non-smoker will be Grey, for a smoker it will be a sticky and brown.
- richste, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33Anybody? No? Dust.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Did they take this to the beach on a regular basis?
"Honey, we don't have anything to set the food on!"
"Ah, bring the computer again." - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Diggers see "dirty PC" and think porn. Be careful.
- ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23even better, when they ARE a smoker, and the monitor and all air inlets are yellow ... or when components fry, often due to static discharge thanks to crap in the dust, they try to cover the odor with perfume ...
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Once, I put gay porn on my friend's desktop, shut the PC down, pulled the CPU out of his buddy's motherboard, and left it loose in the case, so he'd go to the local computer repair guy.
When he left the shop, the repair guy was acting really weird. Once he got his PC home and hooked up, he understood why. - johnstar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I licked a hard drive that was dirtier than that for five bucks once.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Yeah right, and you've got a girlfriend in Canada too, blah blah blah
- iNunchuk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25I'm sure a Mac fan will come by and claim that thats just one more reason why a Mac is better than a PC.
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Worst I ever saw was when I was working for the IT department at a state university. We had to keep all the faculty computers running and so forth, and one call I went on was to the art department in the ceramics room. Yeah, first of all the office looked like someone had lost a wrestling match with an extra large container of baby powder. Then I opened the PC (one of those cheap ass Dell Celeron small form factor ones) and of course that was a mess. No compressed air at hand so I took a big breath, and... yeah that wasn't a good idea either.
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I once found a lollipop in a computer I was fixing...
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17::looks at first photograph::
I don't get it. It's an empty case with some RAM sitting in it...
Oh, wait. - Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Their tubes must be clogged with dust.
- synystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Dirtiest computer I ever saw ... every inch of the inside was covered in roach feces and parts. Once found a dead mouse in a PC also.
Nastiest job? Guy who had been in several times before brings his PC to the shop i worked at saying it won't boot. I open the case, the processor was just laying there in the case--not in the socket. I assumed he had been messing around or had intended to upgrade but couldn't figure it out or got nervous. So I installed the chip and powered up. Booted just fine ... and then the wallper loaded: very explicit, close-up profile shot of two guys, one inside the other. I wish I could have known what he was thinking as I handed it over, charged him for the time, and told him that his data was intact and everything should be just as it was before the problem occurred. Never saw him again. - BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Funny...I had the urge to sneeze just looking at that.
- sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20I can save you one more mouse-click. Here's the duggmirror link directly to the image:
http://duggmirror.com/hardware/Want_to_see_what_happens_when_you_don_t_clean_out_your_PC_for_10_years/dusty_pc.jpg - phae, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Um, I believe that's actually low in fat.
- oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15whoever cleaned it missed a piece
- Jolls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15and to think that dust is composed primarily of dead human skin cells
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Looks like one of those spam emails you get that are really selling viagra or whatever, but the actual ad is in a jpeg image and the text is all gibberish like "So the deoderant remained in time but in back yard the spatula was his."
- staan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11And check out the Zip drive in the background. One hundred megs on a disk! Connected to your parallel port!
- m00nmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Wait for the clean one!
- Heymoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11At least there didn't appear to be any animals in the house and nobody smoked near the CPU. I do forensics on computers seized from child pornography suspects. These folks must chain smoke with their free hand. It's typical to see dust balls the size of a small cat steeped in brown nicotine. Oddly, no dead mice or roaches yet.
I don't even want to think about lighting up the exterior of the case with a black light. It'd probably make the posters from the 70's look bland.
Somehow I don't think there we'll get a show in the CSI franchise. "CSI: Digital Evidence - Dust and Spooge" - Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Wtf...
- oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10My dad told me about how at IBM a while ago they provided systems for a slaughter house and over about a year fat and grease would built up over a inch thick inside the systems. It would totally destroy the computer so about every year they would have to get new ones. Id take the dust over fat and grease.
- bigstinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I could knit an entirely new cat with the fur I pulled out of my first machine.
- ZeroG52, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Wow, I think my IQ just went down 20 points reading that. Very creative though!
- ferrell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7And then there was the guy who found a mouse INSIDE his computer...
