- vpshockwave, on 07/10/2009, -2/+29What the *****, are you guys Toshiba salesmen or something?
- pathouston22, on 07/10/2009, -2/+20I took my moms Toshiba to college back in 2004 - 3 days after classes started, and 1 month after the warrenty expired, the LCD screen starting going out. I talked to them over the phone, told them I was just a poor college student, and they fixed it for free.
And thats my Toshiba story and I'm sticking to it. - 7m7uf, on 07/10/2009, -1/+12There's no conspiracy -- you can look it up on the internet. And there is no better way to look up non-conspiracies then on one of our sleek and stylish Toshiba laptops and now NETBOOKS! They're solid in design but still have that mass appeal that makes women swoon over your manhood. On top of the perfect laptop, hand crafted by Jesus of Nazareth and QA'd by god himself, you'll get are award winning customer support; not that you'll need it... ever.
I'm not a Toshiba salesman, but if you want one i have some for sale -- also can accommodate groups non-sale sales. Just one call and your life can be complete and have meaning with a Toshiba Laptop or netbook. - parestrep, on 07/10/2009, -0/+7I smell a conspiracy..
- iZealot, on 07/10/2009, -1/+7LOL lets get all the payed lackeys to post positive remarks.
Let me just say. We don't need an ugly, pink wearing, fatty notebook around these parts. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+7I'm convinced that half the people on Digg don't even know why they're digging comments down.
- bringitontimx, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6No Ion :(
- sheepsta, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6My Toshiba could turn lead into gold.
- imatt13, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4when have toshiba made "sleek " products u take a look around ur local computer retailer and every toshiba will be twice the size of its closest rival lol however its not really a bad thing it is a bit of a niche market for example schools especially here in the uk often use toshiba's due to their robustness. needs for a cause i guess
- UselessTrivia, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4And I bet it paid off for them, because you're probably a loyal toshiba customer now. If they're smart they wrote off the repair as a sales expense.
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4Newest addition to the Digg Hivemind: Toshiba notebooks suck. Imply anything to the contrary and you will get buried.
- Elranzer, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Intel's pricing is bullying the Ion out of the market. They charge more for the Atom CPU if you buy it separately from the bundle that includes the ***** 945GM chipset that all netbooks seem to have.
- M4NiC5, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4Toshiba, Sony, ....all overpriced junk. Get the same for a fraction of cost elsewhere.
- Ilikebikes, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3If they had a more standard keyboard layout I wouldn't hate Toshiba laptops nearly as much.
- Theycallmetak, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Like almost any other company the front line (level one) guys are generally pretty horrible. When my battery wouldn't hold a charge they wanted me to restore/reload the OS. The guy I spoke to last time told me the only way I could get a replacement battery was by calling the president of Toshiba. Really. I then called US corporate and after opening a case they sent me a new one.
- squelched, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3hell yes
- pudds, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3After the miserable experience my ex had with her Satellite, I will never be convinced to buy a Toshiba laptop.
- steeltormentor, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I love Toshiba. I have 3 TV's by them and have always heard good things from others on their laptops. If this is a decent laptop I might buy one.
The oldest Toshiba TV I have is 21 years old. Never had a problem and turned on almost every day for those years. I bought a 42" LCD Toshiba in Dec '07 and absolutely love it. Sony who...? - ThanatosST, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2My experience with my toshiba laptop (granted, it's been my only laptop so I don't have any other experiences to compare it to) has been pretty nice. I'm not exactly nice to it, as I carry it around with me every day for school and it often gets tossed around and dropped, and I haven't had a single problem with the laptop itself for over a year. It's a lower-end satellite that I got off of newegg for about $450.
I did run into a problem where the power cord from the brick to the laptop fatigued and broke, mainly due to how I was wrapping it. I called up their customer service and had a new power supply shipped to me for free. Pretty painless. - UselessTrivia, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Sony more so than Toshiba, but yeah, you're right.
They must have cleaned up their act a lot though. I used to manage a help-desk for college students in 2003-4, and all the toshibas, HPs, Sonys and compaqs (also an HP brand) were complete junk. The laptops were huge, bulky, ugly, and we saw tons of them.
Now in this thread everyone is talking about how great Toshiba is. Either Toshiba has an excellent guerilla marketing firm and they're all "plants" or people genuinely like the product now.
It was not like this 5 years ago. - frieddonuts, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1This whole thread smells like astroturf to me...but maybe people genuinely enjoy Toshiba, hmmm.
- frieddonuts, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1That's like saying a Benz is better than a Ford. Incomparable- they're shooting for different market brackets.
- mrmuttley, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Umm this is Toshiba second range of netbooks
The NB100 series turned up mid 2008 so not quite so late to the netbook party - pathouston22, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1For some reason, my mom bought a Dell after that one. It's been a good laptop, except for the stupid ***** proprietary drivers. But yeah, if I ever buy a laptop, it'll be a Toshiba. They make good laptops anyways.
- FrancisHC, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1How about the EEE PC 1005HA? $389.99 on Amazon right now, and they claim a 10.5 hour battery life.
One review claims that that translates to 8 hours of realistic use, more if you turn off wifi. - Choobie, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I have a toshiba laptop and I actually like having all those keys down on the bottom row. I use the tilde key rather often, so having it right next to the spacebar is more convenient than stretching my pinky, and the Fn key is nice for a makeshift number pad which is really nice for inputting data into tables.
But to each their own I suppose! - ericcc, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1My 2.5 yr. Toshiba is holding up nicely. I've had to reinstall windows once and got a little crackling on the right speaker that came and disappeared mysteriously after a few weeks but other than that I couldn't ask for more especially since a comparable model still costs nearly what I paid for it years ago (Employee discount from my brief stint as a Circuit City pod person).
- zeth006, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1"The NB205's six-cell caboose sticks out like J-Lo's..."
Is that a bad thing? - unfilterthought, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1$100 and down? What planet do you live on?
Its worth more than $100 worth of parts alone. Not including labor. Not including software. Plus shipping. Plus tax. Plus duty. - zeth006, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Any chance we'll see a Via Nano/Nvidia Ion ombo anytime soon?
- zeth006, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1You've been getting dugg down for looking like an advertiser, though I agree with you. The NC10's a hidden jewels among netbooks. Only problem Samsung's having is introducing a 12" notebook for cheap without getting priced upward by Intel.
- zeth006, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Though there's a gray line forming, for this tread, they're both different.
- zeth006, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1Thinkpads?
I dunno...after Lenovo took over, I've been hearing complaints about build quality issues. I'd rather pay less for a "Ford" laptop that'll last me for a few years without needing pricey repairs. - unfilterthought, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1This is a great little Netbook. 10x7.5 inches so it fits in my Maxpedition Lunada nicely. weight is very good. Specswise its identical to many other netbooks in the market, so what differentiates it is the little things.
The keyboard and the battery is what makes this Netbook desirable.
Other than the ~ key position, its a great chiclet keyboard, i dont know what the reviewer is fuzzing about. Fullsized touchpad. Just the touchpad is great. I went to Best Buy and tried their various netbooks out to get the feel. This felt the best (Of course i didnt buy from Best Buy though...). The battery lasts forever. The screen is nice and bright. Wireless setup was a breeze (though why it has 2 wifi redundant software i dont know).
The cons are: The design of the case isnt for everyone. I like it, but im sure some people dont. It doesnt have the sleekness of the clamshell designs though. The speaker sucks donkey balls. Some of the software pre-installed is retarded of course, like the Aetheros Wifi config along with Windows' wifi config. I dont really need BOTH. I can config my wifi. The manual is stupid. - morepowerr, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1I like Toshiba but I have yet to see any one make a netbook I would really like. The closest I have seen is NorhTec's Gecko. but the down side is. That the ram is on the board. And the LCD should be at lest 10 in.
The winner will be who ever gets the fist 64 bit x86 netbook that don't need to be fan cool. And can make a battery pack case that you can put off the shelf AA battery in. - Shrody, on 07/21/2009, -0/+0I love my Toshiba NB205. The battery can power you for over 6 hours of use with a 6 cell battery, compared to the MSI Wind with a 9 cell battery at the same level of life. It is a stylish machine with the comfy trackpad and aliminum 'island' style keyboard. The 205s only real drawback is the preloaded software due to it being a Toshiba. But a look through your start up programs and Add/Remove Programs can really free up your start up time.
- unfilterthought, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1For the battery life? No.
Look up the costs of netbooks with identical specs and its not priced beyond that range. - AdmiralAcbar, on 07/10/2009, -2/+2MSI > any other manufacturer
Seriously, look up some of their laptops on newegg.
AMD Dual core, 4GB ram, 9600GT all for around $800 - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -2/+2$400 is overpriced. I'm not buying it. I hope they go out of business for overpricing their netbook in such a blatant, offensive manner.
If they want to keep their electronics brand up and running, they better be not overprice their crap in an economic downturn. All netbooks should be priced $100 and down. If they can't do it, they should close their pathetic business. End of conversation. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1$400? Too much.
- jerrycan, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1I checked my notebook
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -1/+1That's one of the weirdest tech support stories I've ever heard.
I've got an HP and I maintain my nephews as well, the tech support has been pretty excellent so far. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -7/+7I've heard Toshibas last longer than other pcs.
How's their tech support? - orb9220, on 07/10/2009, -0/+0Yep the article mentions the Asus 1000HE but for style, build and great keyboard and also gave me great battery at 5.5-6 hrs easy was the Samsung NC10 and doesn't need the ugly battery bulge they claim for the toshiba. And the NC20 with 12" makes it even better.
- Kraniak, on 07/11/2009, -0/+0Hmm, where have I seen that keyboard design before?
- aywwts4, on 07/10/2009, -2/+1While I have no ill will towards Toshiba, my wife's 2006 Toshiba had some pretty wicked structural problems. Of all of Toshiba's strengths, "Solid" is not one of the words I would use.
The case discolored badly in many areas where processors or heat sources were (And I am running the fans with a separate program to keep them higher, which has kept it from getting worse) Then both sides of the hinges on the 17 inch monitor cracked very very badly, to the point where the monitor wobbled flaccidly and was close to coming off. (A quarter inch gap widened where I could see the inner workings of the hinge inside the plastic) this is a laptop which stayed on a desk, and was merely opened and closed each night. I had to rebuild the hinges with a dremil tool and JB weld metal epoxy. There are many other cracks showing in the case as well.
They have powerful laptops at a good price, but damn, they sort of missed the boat on their cases. It looks like things are getting better in the newer Toshiba though, and they retired the very defective hinge design. This problem was pretty widespread among these models, but they aren't cracks in an apple so nobody cares :D
Now I stick to Acer so my laptops are disposable and I don't worry about cutting them up, throwing them around, and frankenstining them, since they cost 300 bucks, not $1100. - inactive, on 07/10/2009, -2/+1I highly recommend the Samsung NC10 netbook. I've had nothing but bad experiences in the past with Toshiba computers.
- andyakadum, on 07/10/2009, -7/+3Thinkpad > Toshiba
- TheJimid, on 07/10/2009, -11/+4well...I said it first?
- TheJimid, on 07/10/2009, -17/+9I typed this comment on a Satellite I bought in 2005, Toshiba is wicked solid and even if you hate PCs its totally worth the quality.
