- EGOvoruhk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm confused. The set top HD-DVD players from Toshiba were huge. If they can make them small enough for laptops....then why the hell is the set top so huge!?
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually Japan is more of a ***** (Panasonic) bandwagon. The USA, on the other hand, is more of the Sony bandwagon.
The Japanese love all of the companies that originate there, Toshiba one of them. Just because the Japanese favor PlayStation over Xbox doesn't mean that they buy EVERYTHING Sony. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have had no problems and excellent linux support on my toshiba
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If it's just a reader and not a burner, what good is it going to be in a computer? Are people really going to by a laptop wth one of these drives just so they can watch an HD-DVD on the plane?
- Wireddd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you need to RTFA:
"The HD-DVD drive will be 12.7mm high and able to play HD-DVD-ROM discs and read and write CDs and DVDs, including DVD+/-R DL (dual-layer) and DVD-RAM, Toshiba said."
so basically it is a CD/DVD burner that can also play HD-DVD. - Bigdee4933, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try blowing all the dust out with canned air, worked for my roomates toshiba.
- TheD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Instant poll!
anyone here have an HD tv or Projector?
me=no. - merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Toshiba laptop is garbage; mine always shutdown by itself as getting warm; call their tech, just same no clue; Toshiba satellite a75: scrapped; don't' bother to buy a Toshiba laptop."
Don't listen to this guy...
I absolutely love my Toshiba Satellite P15. I have had it for about 2 years now and have never had any problems with it. Its an all around great laptop. I'm definitely interested in this new one coming out. - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's great. The Qosmio line is one of the best, it is basically a desktop replacement. They now offer the Core-Duo processors, dual harddrives (I think they can be used in RAID), Tv tuners, good build quality, good speakers, but they are pretty expensive. If they really want to push the HD-DVD, they'll know it's best to implement it in the Satellite line, I know it won't happen for a while, but someday...
- emacs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HD-DVD drives in notebooks are devices to read and write HD-DVD media, no more, no less. How the data is processed and transmitted distinguishes a notebook computer from a standalone HD-DVD player. The electronics in a notebook are designed and engineered for portable computing whereas playback on a standalone player has different requirements.
- SPECTRUM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0good luck; A75 has 2 noisy fans; how can one watch DVD or work near its noise. so loud ;except wearing ear plug or remove your ear battery :)....buy one and try for yourself. Just try to help other.
- vostek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2will this sell at all? I think Japan is collectively on the Sony bandwagon.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2They'll care even less if it were a Blu-Ray drive.

toshiba laptop is garbage; mine always shutdown by itself as getting warm; call their tech, just same no clue; toshiba satelie a75: scrapped; dont' bother to buy a toshiba laptop. - cantormath, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Toshiba the company is garbage, for not supporting Linux worth a damn. There computers are just hardware....
