- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Dude, how the hell are you going to get laid if you're still using EIDE?!
- CaptainMal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5***Maybe splurge on a 75gb SATA Raptor. Then you can start talking performance. There's not a way in hell with current technology I'd make a 750gb drive my primary OS drive.****
Yeah, instead of .50c/gig, spend $2/Gig for 5% better performance in a few situations. That's cost-effective!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I sure hope she's the one paying for the machine. Otherwise, you're a poindexter. Fool.
Anyway, why would you waste money that could go to a lot of other improvements in a box?
1500GB @ $800 --- 02 x (750gb @ $400ea) == 53.3 cents per GB
2500GB @ $750 --- 10 x (250gb @ $75ea) == 30 cents per GB
You *always* aim for the price break. Don't go out and buy the latest and greatest hard drive or CPU. Go out and buy the best just before the big price jump! At this point, that's about 250gb (and occasionally 300gb if you find a really good deal). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Oh, and maybe you should explain to your manipulative girlfriend that more drive space doesn't equate to a better computer. More storage space is . . . well . . . more storage space. Maybe splurge on a 75gb SATA Raptor. Then you can start talking performance. There's not a way in hell with current technology I'd make a 750gb drive my primary OS drive.
- jdkludge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Check out the flash animation:

It's either funny, or weird.

Upgrading my computer can get me laid?! SATA here I come! - welshie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2two 750GB disks in a raid0 array? How you going to back it up? (Is the content worth backing up?)
(I've just had a hard disk die on me, so backups are on my mind at present) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1who cares about saving power consumption on a desktop.
- Miles314, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Nice explaination of the technology behind perpendicular storage. I'm just surprised that this was never done sooner. -- Looks like it's time for me to drop a bankroll on a super silly stupid RAID array.
- elvis314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am glad these are priced reasonable. Most people don't think about it, but where are you going to get power supply, cooling, and space to store a bunch of 250GB or 300GB drives. I had 15x100GB drives in a large array and getting rid of that saved $5/month in power. So the question comes back to is $400 a good deal for a 750GB drive?
I am waiting until I can get one for about $200 then I will buy 5 of them for a 3TB Raid5 array. - InvisibleSoul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seumas:
1500GB @ $800 --- 02 x (750gb @ $400ea) == 53.3 cents per GB
2500GB @ $750 --- 10 x (250gb @ $75ea) == 30 cents per GB
Um... first of all, why you chose to use the price as the basis is beyond me. Would've made more sense to make the comparison based on the storage size:
1500GB @ $800 --- 02 x (750gb @ $400ea) == 53.3 cents per GB
1500GB @ $450 --- 06 x (250gb @ $75ea) == 30 cents per GB
Beyond that, how many people can fit *10* hard drives in their system? Most people can't even fit 6 hard drives in their system.
Also, 6 hard drives is going to consume significantly more power than 2 hard drives will. - DSPGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+214 pages for a hard drive review, with barely two paragraphs on each page? Tom's can go screw itself, I ain't banging on the Next link that many times.
- jdkludge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3sorry, I meant the flash animation was previously dugg, not the Tom's Hardware article...
plus, i messed up the link somehow...

My hard drive is still ATA 100 and longitudinal and only 120gb... Hoping to upgrade to a SATA 150 soon though. That Perpendicular movie is great. I got my girlfriend to watch it a while back and she's now excited about the new hard drives too. Only because she thought the movie was cute but I'll take what I can get. - robwistar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0wow, you guys must have had bad luck with women! ravenhaft, ignore them. the girl wants a raid, give her a raid!
(just don't get stuck with the bill.) - VyRuZ, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2you, my friend, are being exploited
- Ravenhaft, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2The review from Tom's Hardware is new, but plenty of other sites reviewed this awhile ago. I'm going to put 2 in a RAID 0 into my girlfriend's computer (she's crazy, lol, she wants me to make the the best computer ever).
- robwistar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0you guys notice that you get buried when you state tautologies?
- NightTerror666, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0Like I always say in terms of disk space, bigger is always better!!!
