- themachina, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26That thing is so awesome, 14 pounds? Those lanparty kids are going get ripped carrying this badboy around.
- as2003, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Totally agree. I plan to get a tiny laptop for travel and a giant tft waiting at home that can be plugged in when the laptop is at home.
I bet the batery on that lasts 30 mins. - theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18It's designed for gaming. The idea is that one takes the beast over to a friend's house, and it spends it's entire lifetime hooked into a wall outlet.
- buckykatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"Your momma's so fat she uses the emperor laptop"
- glaive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Exactly. It's not really a laptop. It's a portable desktop. I've got one of the 17" notebooks, similar to the HP he showed in the video. Weighs in at about 11 lbs. Really handy for LAN parties, though.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This is called a "Desktop Replacement", ladies and gents.
My girlfriend and I _rarely_ use our laptops without plugging them in. We're the sort of users this thing's aimed at. Not the guy who takes his 12" powerbook and works on the train every day.
Is it really the first SLI notebook though? Coulda sworn there was an alienware that made the front page of digg a couple months ago. - extremeg24, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13That's not what your girlfriend said!
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Better yet, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CompaqPortable.jpg
More of a suitcase PC than a laptop, but whatever. Still, anyone who mods down sardonic's link should be choked to death. - TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8My dad had a couple of these. It was the first IBM compatable portable computer. I played a couple of games on it when I was 4 or 5. I remember trying to move it around. Blows this thing out of the water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CompaqPortable.jpg
- Chakz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's not the biggest laptop. Acer has a 20.1" laptop out.
- Makurosu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's nothing. In my day, we had the Commodore SX-64 portable:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64#C64_successors_and_the_64C
This sucker had a built-in 5" crt display, integrated 5 1/4" floppy drive, a whopping 38k of ram available for BASIC programs, and it was as portable as a barbell. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
You young whipper-snappers think you have it hard. I used to cart this thing up hill both ways and then milk the cows. - info, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And just to top off the silliness of this thread...
Here's the ultimate of sewing machine form factor machines... 24.5 pounds
http://oldcomputers.net/osborne.html - gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4info wins by way of knockout.
Extra bonus for its 5-INCH screen--and info's avatar kicks ass too. - Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wrong. Heard of MXM? http://www.nvidia.com/page/mxm.html
Laptop makers like to keep a low profile on it but all laptops with Go 7800 GTX's have it. It's a PCI-E X16 slot for laptops. GFX cards are interchangeable. However because of the cooling it's not as easy as plugin and go.
You can also change the RAM, CPU, HARD DRIVE, MEDIA DRIVE. Only thing you can't change is the motherboard.
BTW Eurocom is just a reseller of this laptop.. there are many resellers. hypersonic and sager etc... Clevo is the real manufacture. http://www.clevo.com.tw/products/M590K.asp - penguinix, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14Buying a laptop like that is one of the dumbest things you can do. That thing is about as portable as my desktop and laptops are unupgradeable. So in two years you're stuck with a $4000 outdated, unupgradeable laptop that is in no way mobile.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's the Clydesdale of laptops.
- SniperX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yeah, at some point they really just need to own up and call it a new form-factor desktop. There's no way things like that will be sitting on people's laps (not that i can ever really recall someone setting their laptop actually on their lap).
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6And some people complain about the name 'MacBook Pro'!!
- TheGalacticFork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yo moma so fat, she IS the emperor laptop!
- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's what she said.
- pad22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4My Dad who works for IBM brought home some weird stuff back in the day. I remember him bringing home an IBM Portable PS/2 P75 ... if i remember right it was a 486 with an amber LCD http://www.mcamafia.de/mycomp/mycomp03.htm Back around 1990, this was quite the portable PC. Of course he brought home the IBM "Convertible" http://www.xs4all.nl/~fjkraan/comp/ibm5140/ more often due to its more portable nature. I've still got an IBM N33 at home ... greyscale LCD with a 386SX-16 processor running OS/2. At least it was running OS/2, it probably doesn't even turn on anymore :(
- emil1212, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"unupgradable" is grammatically incorrect sir, it should be "is not upgradable"
- flibblesan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Scalable Link Interface is the name for NVIDIAs technology. Scan-line interleave was the old 3DFX tech used on the Voodoo2.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+214 pounds is still pretty portable guys...*****, the backpack I carry around with all my books in it ways more than that. Close to twice as much as that.
At least gamers might not be so scrawny anymore... - bytex64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe not directly related, but it's a lot newer than the luggables, and weighs in at 20.5 pounds:
http://www.tadpole.com/html/products/mobile/bullfrog-dual/ - diggmaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agree with you! Probably that's the reason justin didn't demonstrate it by putting that "laptop" on his lap. :D
- info, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm so flattered... re the avatar...
http://www.catb.org/hacker-emblem/ - breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Maybe it could be good for people that want to take their computer with them to use at several locations that have power outlets but has no desire to use it on the go. For instance, if someone only wants to use their computer at work and at home but has no need to use it on the drive in between.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why the @#$% should I care what you want? It's not SMALLER!! SMALLER!! anymore than it's LARGER!! LARGER!! Little Caesar here needs to get it through his head that CHOICES!! CHOICES!! are a good thing. You can have your 3lb. ultraportable and I can have my 14lb. behemoth. The universe doesn't revolve around making products just for you. Buy the products you like but feel free to ignore products that don't appeal to you. The rest of us don't want to here your rantings about what you think is best for us.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8"Buying a laptop like that is one of the dumbest things you can do. That thing is about as portable as my desktop and laptops are unupgradeable. So in two years you're stuck with a $4000 outdated, unupgradeable laptop that is in no way mobile. "
But people buy Macs all the time! - Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Friggin huge, and fourteen pounds?! Dang!
- Ratteler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No 1920 by 1080? Weak. Other wise at Tablet PC utility and I'd go for one.
- gol706, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think a good rule of thumb for laptop weight is that a falling laptop should not be able to kill the person it lands on, I believe this laptop would fail that test. If it fell off a table it would break your foot, in addition to your $4000 waste of money.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now, I've used lots of laptops, and most of them overheat a lot. I can only imagine how long this one lasts.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Holy frijoles. I just checked eBay, there is a Commodore SX-64 portable for sale. Feel like guessing the price? Starting bid $890.
http://cgi.ebay.com/COMMODORE-SX-64-PORTABLE-C64-VERY-VERY-RARE_W0QQitemZ8278074345QQcategoryZ3544QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - jdelamater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"at least gamers won't be so scrawny anymore"
LOL!! - jackthoreson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Convertible
- JAppi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually own one of those IBMS with an Amber Screen.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL - when I saw this I pictured an old computer from the 1990's. That's what I thought you were posting.
- Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can almost build a mini atx case with close to the same portability though. My brother has a friend that whenever he comes to town has a 17' lcd and a mini atx case that has a custom carrying case about the size of a suitcase and is probably 20lbs. Little heavier, but at least his has some upgrade options.
- brianmost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love it. It's awesome, but at this point aren't you better installing two desktops of identical configuration and carrying a removable main drive back and forth between work and home? You can get two desktops of similar spec for that price, plus a 500G drive in an aluminum docking tray.
- jdelamater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your laptop weighs 1.75 lbs? What model is that?
- sremick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A lot like the laptop I used for many years:
http://www.computermuseum.li/Testpage/Tandy-1400-FD-Laptop.htm - ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They really need to get people in front of the camera that can speak fluently and not stumble on their own words.
I understand they can probably write well, but that doesn't mean they can present that same article to an audience good. - Mnemicis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally! A laptop for the big and tall geeks of the world. I just hope you don't have to buy it it's own seat on an airline.
- msafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1justin jaffe is an idiot. he shoots down every ultra portable laptop because of the small keyboards and now he likes this laptop because it's "more portable than a desktop gaming rig"!!
- brianmost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I pity the man who tries to use this on a flight. The granny in front puts her seat back, and the laptop dude's bisected.
- Permagrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HA! I had one of these bad boys:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SX-64
great for the massive pirate partys back in the day. - kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When you're heading that size just go for a desktop. I wouldn't even classify that as a laptop. You'll crush your lap and be in pain carrying it around. It's not worth the extra screen reality. I draw the limit at 17in. Anything bigger is a desktop. Be prepared for back injury carrying that around. It's just too ***** big!

What is Digg?
