- billflu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+116If true, this will help sales of the Zune.
- All4not, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69This might be the best possible thing for Microsoft. They had to know that the 3 play/3 day sharing limit would kill their wireless feature, so give the RIAA what it wants, but make it easily hackable. I'm not saying I want a Zune, but you have to admit it makes them more appealing now.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+70It'll be news when it's CONFIRMED.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56I just followed the link and I see nothing about this on the page it lead to.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -8/+56This better not be the "rename as a jpg" cheat.
- gr8whitesavage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44The most difficult part of the whole hack is actually finding another person with a Zune!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32What an awesome internet handle. Nutzipper...
- gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Hahah. This assumes there is a nearby Zune to steal content from.
Good luck war-ripping~! - waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29This is originally form a satire site and is fake. But still It may be a reality very soon.
- kingp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Here's a direct link to the post at Zune Boards. Doesn't look like this is for real though...
http://www.zuneboards.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,28/topic,1169.0 - HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22As to RIAA suing MS over this, it all depends on the language of the contract.
We are talking about MS here. They have learned a lot about legal contracts and lawsuits in the past. Heck, they could buy the RIAA with their cash reserves! - Lax32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Hey, I mean, looking at the positive for the RIAA here, atleast they did better than a 12 year old with a sharpie this time around.
- zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14What's that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane??
No.
It's... flag564 flying his trusty stealth marketing machine - exsst, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Peadophile.
- ziggystardust, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Zune is the Chupacabra of the portable media device world. People swear its real but they are seldom seen in public.
- bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Another link:

Sorry people. This looks like a hoax. - waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11And here is the satire site link:
http://www.unconfirmedsources.com/?itemid=2055 - fintheman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15If Microsoft was smart, they would let one of their developers leak the information in how to do this.
This is what would make the Zune be a full out hit. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Microsoft was just waiting for this.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11whatever the hell that means since the Pres of Universal said that anybody with an iPod steals music anyway...
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Those Swedes get snowed in for months, why do you think they make such great programmers/hackers/are so good at something?
- Nachoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8wow.. can you imagine the RIAA sueing Microsoft? Now that would be pretty decent match up.
- ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Since they're in bed with Universal they'll have to fix this.
- DVRDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Did any of the people who Dugg this article actually read it? It's a frickin' parody! Set your phasers to INACCURATE.
- JGuest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This would be awesome... but it isn't true!! It's fake!! http://www.zuneboards.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,28/topic,1169.0
Actually click on the link before you digg it up, they took the story down because they realized it isn't true!! - arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Exactly - Not to imply this is the case in regards to the Zune, but were a company to make something hackable from the get-go, it'd be brilliant marketing.
The company would be able to release a hackable product, call it secure, then leak code for breaking protections & adding new features onto the Internet - And unless the RIAA discovered some explicit inter-company documentation that proved intent, all responsibility would fall on some anonymous product-hacker uploading .ZIP files to a forum over a Tor connection.
It would seemingly be out of the manufacturer's hands, and the product would be hyped greatly in enthusiast communities for it's excellent hackability, and sell like effing' hotcakes. - ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9ZING!
- cyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6When they say unconfirmed sources report..... they mean the website.... Heres the full story http://www.unconfirmedsources.com/?itemid=2055
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The real news is that there are actually enough Zune owners to even have a messageboard.
- Whackly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why is it always a Swedish teen? Is there nothing else to do in December in Sweden?
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11If they don't do anything about it, though (whether they want to or not), the RIAA will come down on them for not securing their music players against theft. And we all know how easy a target Microsoft becomes when it comes to litigation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dude! This story was submitted by a few people like 17 hours before flag564.
- shaunhey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hoax... this is from a satire site...
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4aftergodsheart,
they are just trying to keep flag564 happy, esp. after all the negative diggs and embarrassing ownage he suffers in other threads ;) - ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Good luck with that, here's some more on the submitter...
http://www.digg.com/apple/The_Disturbing_truth_about_Flag564
This guy is an astroturfer of the worst kind. Don't believe me? look at the stories he diggs or submits, or read some of his comments. I'm just surprised sockpuppets hasn't "pwned" him here yet. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A philosophical question - would you want to actually grab songs from someone with a sense of taste that led them to buy the Brown Zune?
Also, I'd be even more interested in the hack that lets me replace songs on the target Zune with ones of my own devising... - 3dom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6checked duggmirror - this link never had anything to do with zune drm being cracked.
edit: flag564 was prolly referring to the link kingp provided above - billycuts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dugg down as inaccurate
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8If only I could go just one day with a Digg story on the front page that doesn't have"owning" or "pwning" involved. Unless you're being ironic, that is.
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I agree, it seems to me that when something gets hacked then it becomes more popular. I think this is because it allows people to create homebrew apps and other useful utilities.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree and it would be hard to believe that Microsoft didn't think this would happen.

Zune Boards == Boneheads.
Marked as inaccurate. - Dakk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"These [non-Zune] devices are just repositories for stolen music, and they all know it," UMG chairman/CEO Doug Morris says. "So it's time to get paid for it."
LOL - PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'm digging down everyone of your comments to spare others having to read your nonsense
- MBHoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2flag564 is the color of a Zune after emerging from Microsoft's ass.
