- topplehat, on 04/21/2009, -2/+70Except now you actually have to go outside.
- madeingermany, on 04/21/2009, -0/+43"never need charging" is a bit misleading ...
- Contradictions, on 04/21/2009, -2/+32Bad headline. It still needs charging, the only difference is you can charge it by leaving it outside and hoping nobody walks off with it.
Now you can start calling it the DS Light at least, I guess. - TwistyMcFister, on 04/21/2009, -1/+24What about water powered so I can play in the shower?
- MrInfallible, on 04/21/2009, -0/+19I went outside once.
Well I'll get back to programming now. - twertyto, on 04/21/2009, -3/+18I think I would perfer a mini nuclear fusion mod on my DS. To each his own.
- TechEvil, on 04/21/2009, -0/+14Don't you play enough in the shower already?
- DeathRay2K, on 04/21/2009, -1/+15Everyone saying that it won't work because nerds don't go outside:
You realise that it works with lights too, right? - MrInfallible, on 04/21/2009, -0/+13You need a DS to play in the shower?
- seanstuart, on 04/21/2009, -0/+11The sun! It burns! Hssssssssssss!
- mikbunn, on 04/21/2009, -0/+10You made an account to say that?
- mongo25, on 04/21/2009, -0/+7I'm sure your gerbil would have hours of fun playing Animal Crossing.
- desuexmachina, on 04/21/2009, -0/+7While that would be an interesting power source, consider that bacon is not very far removed from human meat. I wouldn't recommend using it, a slight bug in the software and it might try eating your tasty flesh instead.
Also, I would prefer that I power myself with bacon. - opzero, on 04/21/2009, -0/+6Improved: http://www.instructables.com/id/Solar-DS-quotLight ...
- lemur, on 04/21/2009, -0/+5Are you sure about that? The DS is a fairly open platform. I know you need to exploit it to load unsigned code, but other than that it is region-free, so all DS software runs on any DS, it uses commonplace and generic storage (DSi has an SD slot), and so on and so forth. If Nintendo could be persuaded to allow some of this stuff it would only be easier.
- cornlucas, on 04/21/2009, -0/+5Not better than the gas powered Nintendo DS.
- alex7575, on 04/21/2009, -1/+6I'm waiting for the bacon powered version...
- twertyto, on 04/21/2009, -3/+8"Personally I seem to lose the charger every time I take it on a trip"
Guy has issues. - Blademan88, on 04/21/2009, -2/+7that was a dumb comment
- inactive, on 04/21/2009, -1/+6Well the new ones do have a camera...
- havokdu, on 04/21/2009, -0/+4If you leave the DS in the sun it will probably decolorate, specially the black one.
- regulan, on 04/21/2009, -0/+4A slightly more useful link
http://www.instructables.com/id/Make_a_Solar_DS_th ... - itZappleGG, on 04/21/2009, -4/+8Very environment friendly! Excellent idea!
- mrsteve007, on 04/21/2009, -0/+4Or put it on a windowsill . . .
- lemur, on 04/21/2009, -0/+4The DS is cheaper than OLPC by far and can be used as an educational tool quite easily. It's capable of full color video, stereo sound, has a touch screen and a microphone... wifi... It could be used as a PDA, such as scheduling and homework assignment management, could be used to administer tests and give lessons... and so on
- vilago, on 04/21/2009, -0/+4should be called "charge anywhere"
- twertyto, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Thanks. A pet peeve of mine too. I also hate when some says "Vice-a Versa".
- aTroll, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3you already do that
- Garofoli, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Damn glare.
- DeathRay2K, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3I count that as a plus.
- verifex, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3It's too bad, because you can't actually play the DS in the sun, as the glare makes it impossible to play it outside. Give me a call when they have some universal battery gadget that can power it, or when the battery in the thing lasts a heckuva lot longer.
- inactive, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Window sill
- Philbert, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Of course you couldn't play it anyway unless you're laying on your back, being careful not to cover the back with your hands. Of course you could always just charge it under a lamp in your house.
- brakzilla, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Place my electronic devices in direct sunlight for extended periods. Great idea.
- zmigliozzi, on 04/21/2009, -1/+3and always needs light, so no more staying up passed your bed time and playing under your covers.
- removesstains, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2Its pretty awesome, but the sun here in Texas would only give your DS a week long life with all the internals being heated so high.
- qbthemc, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2Talk to me when they make one for a gameboy Micro.
- solarwind24, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2Now you can leave it in the sun and heat up the battery - significantly reducing shelf life...
- ChromaVita, on 04/21/2009, -1/+3You know they have the sun in other places too? When it disappears at night, it's actually just visiting us!
- Zippo, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2You're going to have a hard time getting solar power where the sun don't shine.
www.instantrimshot.com - iamheero1, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2I dugg you for not saying "each to his own". I hear that way too much and it's annoying. Also because ***** yeah nuclear fusion.
- Kohaxx, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2Now you can play Boktai in the sun and charge your DS at the same time!
- themastersb, on 04/21/2009, -0/+2This could be useful if for some reason there's a massive power outage for days on end and you want to play some games.
- thenativeraver, on 04/21/2009, -1/+3You already play with yourself in the shower.
- palpacino, on 04/21/2009, -0/+1I hate when people say "Fun do it yourself project"
- Barackalypse, on 04/21/2009, -1/+2To put the 80 mA charging current in to perspective, the DS Lite has a 1000 mAh battery and the DS powered on at the default screen brightness is using 128 mA and playing a game takes it up to 190 mA.
http://tim.cexx.org/?p=345 - skztr, on 04/21/2009, -1/+2but Nintendo won't let you, so nevermind
- Philbert, on 04/21/2009, -0/+1It charges in the sun, then you use it to brighten things when it gets dark?
- aTroll, on 04/21/2009, -0/+1this is a terrible idea. what if i wanna play at night? what if the sun goes out and I can never play again because we don't have any light!
- newsoulbox, on 04/21/2009, -9/+10I'd love to put this up my ass
