- BlindingDawn, on 03/18/2008, -4/+186Maybe Crysis will run on this.
- ennTOXX, on 03/18/2008, -5/+116You can heat your house with it, but you'll have to sell your house to afford it... :||
- zephyear, on 03/18/2008, -2/+824 idle cores
- fkr3, on 03/18/2008, -1/+75Solitaire?
- Aeuta, on 03/18/2008, -2/+71When they release the 8 core at a "good" price they will be talking about the 12 or 16 core...lol
But many games and applications still can not even use the dual core...programing needs to catch up to hardware. - saxreturns, on 03/18/2008, -4/+69But 6 isn't a power of 2! It just doesn't sit right with my binary-loving brain.
- MemeWarrior, on 03/18/2008, -4/+61Expired: Dual-Core
Tired: Quad-Core
Wired: Sex-Core FTW! - Dropperbr, on 03/18/2008, -2/+46Every time I upgrade my pc.. it comes a news like this!
I'll wait for the 8 core! - allaboutdatiki, on 03/18/2008, -5/+48Can I heat my house with it?
- freexe, on 03/18/2008, -0/+40These new 45nm cores are pretty damn good. The new Intel E8500 uses 34 Watts under load and 4 Watts Idle, that is pretty good in my book considering the Athlon X2 6000+ uses 115 Watts
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/intel ... - freexe, on 03/18/2008, -1/+37Yeah, it's not even a prime number.
- BoneheadFarker, on 03/18/2008, -4/+39When AMD's processors were beating the P4 in nearly every catagory, they said the same thing about Intel. This is just part of the natural swing. Don't count AMD out just yet...
- cmyk, on 03/18/2008, -0/+32It's a machine for us CG artists and animators. 12 render cores! Mama.
Good bye, Mac Pro 8 core. - emmanuelsotelo, on 03/18/2008, -19/+48Maybe I will finally be able to use Vista with the same speed that XP runs on my single core processor.
- LongShlong, on 03/18/2008, -1/+30The age old paradox...
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -12/+41Put a fork in AMD; they're done.
- myotive, on 03/18/2008, -2/+30Whatever you do...don't divide by zero!
- krische, on 03/18/2008, -2/+29Actually, if the game wasn't programmed to utilize simultaneous processing, he's right.
- myotive, on 03/18/2008, -5/+30Whatever happened to Sony's Cell processor? Wasn't it suppose to be the hot ticket for "true" multi-threaded computing?
- SVOboy, on 03/18/2008, -2/+26Oh crap! I can't even imagine the kind of programs I'd be running to use all that power...
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -7/+30soulja boy sucks
- i244, on 03/18/2008, -1/+24Are they going to be called sex core?
because, the name alone sounds badass. - Koush, on 03/18/2008, -3/+24Six?..why six?.
- eouw0o83hf, on 03/18/2008, -9/+30Someone knows a lot about computer science and programming..............
/sarcasm - JamesMorris, on 03/18/2008, -2/+23Please for the love of god stay on socket 775.
- mriegger, on 03/18/2008, -0/+21http://folding.stanford.edu/
- MacEnvy, on 03/18/2008, -0/+182^1=2
- CoolHandRemy, on 03/18/2008, -0/+18Just announced: Absolute zero CPU cooling.
- chris9902, on 03/18/2008, -1/+18Probably because they'll just do what they did with the Quads and jam a couple of Duals together.
- MrCobaltBlue, on 03/18/2008, -0/+15I bet with a hex-core processor you can get into....
Spider Solitaire. - Quadrille, on 03/18/2008, -1/+16Die shrinks = reduced heat. Thought everyone would have known this after Prescott.
- Teonl, on 03/18/2008, -1/+15This is great news especially for a 3d artist like myself.
I hope the processor and MoBo's are cheap. - krische, on 03/18/2008, -0/+14I think the main reason its not implemented in desktops is because it's the PowerPC instruction set, and not the x86 which Intel/AMD are and which Windows is programmed for.
However, if you want to make a linux is able to run on the CELL (PS3). - plizard, on 03/18/2008, -1/+14wtf i rarely take advantage of my quad core
- MemeWarrior, on 03/18/2008, -0/+12I was about to say the same thing. You see this same kind of swing with ATI and Nvidia as well. Although I must admit that I still think AMD acquiring ATI was a bad move because it seems to have put them both on the same cycle.
- breckinshire, on 03/18/2008, -0/+12Sorry that name's already taken by the, ahem, bookstore down the street.
- rossisdead, on 03/18/2008, -3/+15Groundbreaking joke right here.
- Darkhowling91, on 03/18/2008, -0/+12Yep. I spent a grand on my new one and it took a few months to build due to fautly parts, then quad cores came out. Not to mention my video card dropped $40 a week after I had bought it. =[
- dirtyfrog, on 03/18/2008, -0/+12And then to make it PC they could just call it Hard-Core
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -1/+13Most performance-critical games have the ability to utilize multiple cores, don't they?
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -5/+17Mine isn't. Quit downloading goat porn 24/7.
- TRScheel, on 03/18/2008, -1/+126 > 4
I'd say they missed some premium marketing and sales by skipping the 5 core in the interim. We'd all be drooling over it, people with money would blow some on it, then they could release the 6 for more money...
... Maybe thats what they are doing with a 6 core instead of 8... - TypeEE, on 03/18/2008, -2/+131. Open 6 command windows
2. type dir in each of them
3. Now hit enter really fast on all windows. - GeorgeClayton, on 03/18/2008, -0/+11I'm currently running an Intel Quad core, but it would be a HUGE shame to see AMD die. Prices would skyrocket and progress would slow. No one (except maybe intel) should want to see AMD die.
- debuggercll, on 03/18/2008, -1/+12No, you need a oct-core processor for that.
- starkruzr, on 03/18/2008, -1/+12Good luck with that. We're starting to run up against physics at this point.
- longbow486, on 03/18/2008, -0/+11there are 10 types of people in the world...
- Marglar, on 03/18/2008, -9/+19I'd rather them figure out how to get over the mid 3ghz hump rather then put more cores in their processors.
Modern apps (with a few exceptions) can hardly utilize a 2nd core currently. I want faster processors, not more idle cores. - Jexie, on 03/18/2008, -1/+11I thought it was Sony/IBM/Motorola jointly made. When it was first out I think the complaints were that it was a huge bitch to program for, not sure if this is still the sentiment out there though.
- ZeroSumDivide, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9...at 20 FPS!
