- dreamlayers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vista seems to support this chip already.
- entity3sf, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Not for recording streams. At least not for sigmatel/Dell XPS.
This is a disgrace! A software issue. Someone needs to get off their sorry corporate butts and write drivers that enable full functionality.
It's not a Vista or a hardware issue as Dell claims. The win XP driver will install and allow recording streams (but will screw up other funnctionality so if you're reading don't try it). - PersianCowboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have the same issue. Hopefully they come up with something.
- BlackIrish1956, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0OK - It's may 2008 and I can not seem to find any more forums or chat regarding Dell and SigmaTel issues. I know the problem's not fixed because Dell only recommends reinstalling the O/S for a possible fix. I have Vista Home Premium - XPS 1530. I used to be able to chat with my mic, but since the Sigmatel Drivers fall out I can't do that any longer an generally have many bad sound issues with this machine. The built in mic provides a choppy sound and I can not open webpages and maintain ANY sound quality.
If anyone knows of a possible fix, I'd greatly appreciate it! - AudioRecorder, on 06/10/2008, -0/+0''Even the new Dell drivers are INCOMPLETE. The only allow for Mic input thus there is no way to record "what you hear" IE what is playing through your speakers!!!!!!!!!!''
''Actually, I'm not sure what you are talking about fmprodguy. I've not had any errors with the Dell driver. It installed fine, and works with all types of audio recording or listening. Could you be more specific please?

I have the same issues. I can't record audion with my sound recorder. It is a video screen recorder, but although the video recording works, the audio does not. I have tried several audio recorders, and it is always the same issue. Rather than recording what is coming from the speakers, it is recording the external sound in the room. - MikekiM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hi all out there in Cyberspace,
I'm also suffering from the same problem and need to get it working. Got a brand new Dell XPS M1330 with web cam and integrated array microphone from SigmaTel. Running Vista 32 bit. The crazy thing is that the microphone only works when I use the Windows Sound Recorder. Then it works. Quality is not really exciting but at least I can hear my voice when I replay it.
However, When I want to use Skype the microphone does not seem to work at all. Even under Control Panel / Sound / Recording / Microphone Array / Configure / Set up microphone / Other (Array microphones) I get a message that the computer can't hear me. Actually, I can hear my voice but it is very, very low and practically unusable.
When I go to the speaker symbol at the lower right hand corner, open the mixer and select my array mic as device there is nothing else seen than the HDMI device itself; no other applications. I assume that's the reason why the microphone doesn't work.
I am in contact with Dell, they sent me the latest driver, but that did not change anything. They even sent a technician who replaced the microphone. Get what the result was. The same.
I checked out so many forums and I see problems and complaints everywhere. I don't understand that this problem still exists as Vista is supposed to be mature, the notebooks vendors sell their stuff and pretend it's all working but actually it's not.
Who can help? Is it as simple as adjusting registry settings? If so, which ones? In case I need another driver: where can I get it?
Appreciate your comments and insight.

- kumaryu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Vista does support this driver. Also, many of the major PC manufacturers have released a driver for Vista for Sigmatel audio. For complete information you should stop by my blog for the latest info on the Sigmatel issue:

Lastly, from the Sigmatel site:
Audio Codecs and Integrated Audio Support
SigmaTel is not a sound card manufacturer, we design and produce integrated circuits directly for manufacturers. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to provide drivers to end-user's. All end-user technical support, including drivers, should be directed to the product manufacturer. If you are unsure of who manufactures the product you are seeking drivers for, please read the packaging and literature that accompanied your product. For Windows XP users, an out of the box driver is included with the operating system that supports the SigmaTel codecs. For other operating systems, please contact your motherboard manufacturer to obtain the driver.
