- TheAttacks, on 06/22/2009, -4/+43Not upgrading for a little more internal memory and the lack of my favorite feature, the physical keyboard. Cupcake is awesome and all, but the iPhone and Cupcake can both take their on-screen keyboards and have on-screen keyboard f!@k sessions for all I care, none of them touch the ease of a physical keyboard when texting.
- nitroskanker, on 06/22/2009, -4/+42I need my hardware keyboard. Make a slimmer version of the G1, maybe even make the screen a bit bigger and I'm all over it.
- mu0p, on 06/23/2009, -0/+26Been really enjoying the G1 after the cupcake. Also, this article is written by a magnificent moron.
- inactive, on 09/13/2009, -3/+28G1 FTW
- darkened, on 06/23/2009, -0/+20FTA: "While this device trumps the G1 in every way" absolutely wrong. It does not have a physical keyboard. So it is impossible to "trump" the G1 in every way. While it's great the hardware specs are better that doesn't in the end make it better phone compared to the G1. Maybe it makes it better in a direct comparison to the iPhone. However I assume that I like most G1 users bought the G1 because it DOES have a physical keyboard.
- yocouchdigga, on 06/22/2009, -0/+18The G1 is great as is, sure it's not attractive but god damn is it a great phone. Can't wait to see the next evolution (besides the magic, which has been around for months).
- spritom, on 06/22/2009, -2/+15FTA: "At the heart of the T-Mobile myTouch, Sherpa™ is an application with a built-in learning engine..."
Not in the article:
The phones become self-aware at 20:11 on April 19, 2011. - RyeBrye, on 06/23/2009, -3/+15"While this device trumps the G1 in every way, "
Umm... Except for the PHYSICAL KEYBOARD. - Twinnie, on 06/23/2009, -0/+10It's about time this network exclusivity trend ***** died.
- Coven, on 06/22/2009, -1/+9Another T-Mobile phone? What about those of us on other networks? I'm waiting for an Omnia II at the moment, but if Verizon came out with an Android smartphone I'd be all over it.
- SouthsideIrish, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8@nicktx
Over the Touch name? The HTC Touch has been around for two years so if Apple was going to sue you think they would have done it two years ago. Apple trademarked the i, but I don't think they trademarked the word touch, and if they did, well I think they lost it by now. - InorganicMatter, on 06/23/2009, -5/+13You want a slim phone, but with a hardware keyboard. Do you not see a problem here?
- nicktx, on 06/22/2009, -3/+11I give it 30 seconds from when it's released to Apple filing a lawsuit for trademark infringement over the name.
- shahruz84, on 06/23/2009, -0/+7Yes, it can.
And for BT file transfer, there's free, fully-working apps for it. - mstachiw, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6looks like the G1 / iPhone lovechild. Not for me. No physical keyboard? Tis why i got the G1... that and I'm with TMobile. I am content with Tmob for now can't stand most carriers though. Too many hidden fees.
- reuscel, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7You really think that Verizon won't cripple the OS like they do with all their phones?
- palmer, on 06/23/2009, -2/+8Not to mention the continued lack of A HEADPHONE JACK.
Don't vote for this stupidity with your money. - Sarkoon, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6Agreed. How can it trump the G1 in every way when almost all technical components are identical? Same processor running at the same speed, same camera and resolution, same wifi, gps, and Andriod version (assuming you update your G1). So it's got a bit more memory and no keyboard, how is that better in every way?
- stalky14, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6I don't think Verizon would do that. They are still too much of an old-school phone company and all about nickel and diming for every little feature and locking their customers down. They have incredible network penetration though. Shame about their prices and policies.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5@vitriolix...he shouldn't have to do this. No one should.
Ass. - DPimp1262, on 06/23/2009, -2/+7I'm reading all these comments about the G1 being better because if it's physical keyboard and I'm going to go on a limb and say this. I love my touch screen keyboard. I am loads faster on it then on any tiny cramped physical keyboard. Sure when I'm in an application that doesn't have the text correction system it can be pretty bad sometimes but that auto correct on my iphone is amazing. I rarely have to correct it and I can usually actually type well past 30 words a minute with easily over 90% accuracy. I also don't have to put any effort behind my key-presses. This lets me be even faster. I just touch right near the letter and keep machine gunning through. The phone fixes any mistakes.
The only thing I'm wondering about the G2 is if tmobile will finally give us a non blackberry phone with 3g and hotspot@home. There are so many places where I have no service and perfect wifi. I want to use hotspot@home so bad!! Give me that and I will gladly deal with the lack of a headphone jack or no multitouch. - louiebaur, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5Yea if verizon came out with one I would consider it as well.
- thisthatwhat, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5Not that you can ever have any unbiased reviews but I felt the review was favouring the iPhone from the start.
On another note, just because the iPhone has no keyboard doesn't mean this phone had to jump on the bandwagon. The should have kept the keyboard but kill that swivel design, it's a cool novelty but the classic slider is still easier to handle with one hand typing. - iVisionX01, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6Um, no not really it looks nice. Still would like a physical keyboard though.
- loginfliggle, on 08/09/2009, -0/+5unfortunately, no.
- AgentBarcode, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4To be fair, the mytouch 3g's keyboard has haptic feedback for each key press, so it's not THAT bad and better than the iphone.
- bparkey, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Agreed that is what I'm holding out for.
- weeFred, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5Better waiting for the Samsung Galaxy.
- darkened, on 06/23/2009, -2/+6Have you seen Android since the 1.5 aka CupCake release? Everything is so much more slicker and polished than it was before. Of course I've always liked it from the start.
- sdipaola, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4A perfect example of how carrier companies do not have a clue of computer hardware and software ( my assumption here is that a smart phone is a computer with special io) . They are taking a HTC g2 magic ( out in canada and in europe for a while - all ready to go with better android and HTC setup) and delay it in the states for what? to put a dumb new name on it, come up with some marketing campaign that is BS about customization and pay a 3rd party software house to build it a "special t-mobile killer app" and what is it - a smart restaurant recommendations ( tell me that won't ignored). I just wanted an android phone that was smaller and buggs fixes - not t-mobilized to death in all the wrong ways. Let hope goolge sells a straight unlocked g2 soon.
- DaviDTC, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Not with the ties that Google and Apple have with each other.
- t0ny, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3We don't care that you don't care.
- Coven, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4Verizon has no SIM cards. When I say "if Verizon came out with..." it means if they work with a manufacturer and subsidize a model of a smart phone like the G1. Verizon is CDMA, I believe, and non CDMA phones wont work on the network.
- dualityim, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4I like the phone a lot (I have the G1 right now but I'm not going to upgrade to it) but I too find the name uncreative and trite. Heck, G2 would've been a much better name. But it seems like T-Mobile may be reserving the G2 name for another device coming out soon. But even then, they could've just called it G1S (G1 slim version) or something like that. MyTouch 3G is quite possibly the worst option. It doesn't mean anything at all to differentiate it from their other Android phone. The G1 is also touchscreen and 3G-enabled. What the hell, T-Mobile?
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Doesn't need to. It just needs to decode files in that resolution, whatever it displays it at, is fine by me. I'm not looking for hi-def on a portable device, just enough CPU power to decode standard definition files like XViD or DVD. Taking a trip? Just use handbrake or dvd shrink to rip a DVD to VOBs, in 30 minutes you can rip and transfer, escape from what could normally be an annoying trip or flight. A process that doesn't require you spend hours re-encoding it to quicktime or windows media.
I seriously dont understand why people dont want this option in their portable devices. - loginfliggle, on 08/09/2009, -0/+3HTC
- jeffmon, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3That's a magnificent way to insult someone!
- darkened, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Seeing as I don't think any cell phone in the world has a screen with a resolution of 720x480, I don't think so...
- Elranzer, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Even Apple is licensing the name "iPhone" from Cisco, anyway. Cisco had a product called "iPhone" out way before Apple's smartphone.
- opitica, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3cant wait!...because it will drive down the price of the g1 so i can finally get one without renewing :)
- dualityim, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2trickinit, I can't tell if you are joking or not. So just in case you are not, trademarks don't work like that. T-Mobile and Gatorade can both use G2 because energy drinks and mobile phones are completely different things.
- LokiStix, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2I agree. Hopefully the newest version of Quickpwn can help us out.
- paulsmith288, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2I've got a iphone (not 3GS) - and Im looking to get rid of it. The iphone may be the best thing since sliced bread - but itunes is such a piece of *****.
Firmware 3.0 broke hacks for using anything else. Another game of cat and mouse between the consumer and apple - its getting tiring. - weeFred, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Apparently when it's released in the UK it will be called the G1 touch. It has other names to such as HTC Magic, Google Ion and some places have been calling it the G2. I think all these names are a result of really bad marketing from T-mobile. A very basic part of successful marketing is to get product name recognition from early on and T-mobile have failed miserably.
- RobotBuddha, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3I'd agree on the OS. My contract with AT&T is ending soon, and I'm really torn on whether to go with an iphone again. On one hand, I'm a huge google fanboy and have grown to dislike a lot about apple in the time I've been using their phone. On the other, the look and feel of android is just offsetting. I can't say what it is that I dislike about it, but for some reason I just find it ugly. Even if I like it far, far, more as a platform.
- Rapax, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. Mini-B USB has basically become the standard port for all things mobile: charging, file transfer, peripherals, syncing, etc.
Why do we insist on having headphones still stick to the old 3.5mm bipole plug? Maybe it's time for headphone makers to switch to the new plug. After all, not many of us are still insisting on PS/2 keyboards for our desktops, are we?
I'd love a pair of decent headphones (ER?, Shure? I'm looking at you.) with a mini-usb plug. - bills534, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2I hope the Galaxy will work with other carriers besides t-mobile. They still don't have 3g in my area and probably wont for a long time. It still looks like its worth waiting for.
- jmccgod, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2I don't know why everyone is complaining about the battery life of the G1. I use mine all day long and it lasts from sun up till sun up the next morning.
- dualityim, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2I go to school in Cambridge, Mass, live in Westchester county, NY, and occasionally visit Montgomery county, PA, and I get 3G at each of these places.
- neurosys0, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3I'm not sure why you're being dug down. But while the other carriers are all moving into 4G, T-Mobile is still straining to get their 3G network up to par. It's a shame: I like T-Mobile... but somewhere they fell behind the 8-ball.
