- mookieXL, on 04/16/2008, -1/+31I just hope it's read-only.
- debbiedragon, on 04/16/2008, -2/+14this is incredible.
- alekkss, on 04/16/2008, -1/+11Imagine a future psychokinesis game... While using a controller to navigate, you can throw objects at your opponents using your mind
- ChileanGoD, on 04/16/2008, -1/+11It actually gives you a 500volt discharge when you get headshoted.
- Neticule, on 04/16/2008, -2/+11It actually looks pretty cool too! Soon your fancy halo helmet will be your controller too :P
- gravityboard, on 04/16/2008, -0/+8It seems like there could be a risk of excitement or other distractions ***** up your game. When I played games as a kid on N64, one of the challenges was getting to the end of a game but having to control your excitement and stay extremely focused on the task.
I wouldn't want my mind to wander and then all of a sudden Zelda is humping something. (just kidding.. how awesome if it worked like that though...) - YME1280, on 04/16/2008, -2/+9Amazing...I want
- tdreyer1, on 04/16/2008, -0/+6Ahh yes. Let me tell you about SNATCH, the migrate to electronics movement. With this device, we can copy your mind and you can live forever on the internet. Would you like a pamphlet?
- inactive, on 04/16/2008, -1/+6Takes those VR gameboys to a whole new level.. and I thought those were cool.
- ahhell, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5Please seek help. There is nothing cool about spousal abuse.
- BlueSunshine, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5This thing looks awesome. Remember that old Playstation 9 commercial?
- Stupidumb, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5Well, keep us posted. We don't want to miss a minute of your actions; we want to know when you pay, when they release it, when they ship it, when you receive it, when you plug it in, your feelings the first time you try it, all that stuff.
- Labourer, on 04/16/2008, -1/+6I've seen about this before and I think the possibilities for the future with this type of stuff are fantastic. Obviously this tech wont perform perfectly for a while but if you think of voice recognition how that has advanced over the years , this is probably the beginning of something revolutionary. The advantages to those without the use of arms or speech such as in the case of motor neurone diseases could be fantastic.
- viewofeverlast, on 04/16/2008, -1/+6But can you really make a controller better than this?
http://blog.the-skylab.de/wp-content/uploads/2006/ ... - zedzedtop, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5"I know kung fu"
had to say it - patm1987, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4And here I was annoyed when I had to learn rocket science for game development, and now neuroscience? Soon they'll be telling me to do realtime raytracing on your cerebral cortex for the phantom game console in your flying car.
(disclaimer, do not use my software for operation of actual rockets as it may result in user death) - loomis6335, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3I think most guy gamers would be hard pressed to stop their character from humping things
- FLarsen, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Dude, it can't read your thoughts. It works like a body part, it receives electrical (or in this case, electromagnetic) impulses and does whatever you have linked that pattern to.
- doshindude, on 04/16/2008, -3/+6What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
- titopuente, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3BAM! Headshot!
- Unskillful, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4"...interprets gamers' intentions, emotions...", good... now they can filter out all the damn emo's.
- loomis6335, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3That would be so awesome. Imagine bioshock where you could use your gun with you controller and use plasmids with your mind. Youd be an unstoppable bringer of death.
- bogdan985, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2So cool
- supreme0armor, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2yes... I thought I was the only one who saw that... at one point I seriously thought I had dreamed it up...
something like, "Until you can have that, play with this : PS2 " - redtophank, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3very nice
- necroprancer, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Didn't a demo of this tech completely fail at the last GDC? I'd love see this work, but I think it's much more than a year off.
- jimmick, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2New from EA
VIRTUAL HEADBANGING
....
SIX - toffah, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Hmm, this sounded a lot better at the start of the article, but then it became apparent that all it does is sense your mood, levels of excitement, etc... which is pretty much like Philips Ambilight nonsense... but I guess it's a good start.
- ultraseamus, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2I have used this before, it actually does work. Its ability to pick up facial expressions and emotions is impressive. But the coolest part is how you can actually play a game with it, it involves training the headset on the thoughts you want to associate with a certain task.
- juliustan, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2oh my god.
You mean i can fap without my hands? IN A GAME?! - bumcheekcity, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2I've been reading about the OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator, which does a similar thing. It's released commercially to the General public, eBuyer UK are selling it, but I can't find any in-depth reviews of what is a never-seen-before product :(
All these brain-reading things look really cool. If anyone knows of any in-depth reviews of the OCZ NIA, do say. - inactive, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1I heard http://www.damnsexygames.com were dev'ing a mmo to work with it, optionally.....
- Evermin7, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1NNNICE!
- proph, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Love the idea. Wonder where it'll take us...
- adasha, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3since being depressed became a fashion statement I reckon
- sgvprelude, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Does this mean my Nintendo Wii is already obsolete?
- Atomic1fire, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Tell us of the brainputer
- thejoshbennett, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Maybe I'm paranoid- but there are SOME things I like keeping in my head, no even video games are being intrusive?!
- cryptech, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2I doubt this thing actually works very well.
My prediction is this turns out to be the equivalent of a head-mounted USB mood ring - viewofeverlast, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1The commercial has been a reality for a couple years now...
- BuryIt, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Headbang Hero
- BeefBaron, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1As was demonstrated at the recent expo demos of this product, it doesn't work too well in-game anyway.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-emotiv-bra ... - inactive, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Now I have a fighting chance against those hand-eye coordinated kids!
- Harabeck, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1The targetting computer was built into the cockpit. And the helmets they wore were full helmets that looked nothing like this...
- Emused, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3Looks a bit like Luke Skywalkers targeting computer helmet from the attack on the Death Star.
- trollick, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1So... It is a pretty bad EEG device used as a very bad replacement for a mouse. The singularity is near!
- Stupidumb, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1obviously not
- jjintheuk, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Wow, it sounds pretty cool!! I wonder if anyone will incorporate it into any programs or games?
- loomis6335, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Are you kidding! Thats what video games are all about! I can be a badass evil wizard on Fable, and no one judges me for that. If I want to throw a fireball at a passing chicken and magically my helmet made my charcter do that. That would be so Badass!
- supreme0armor, on 04/16/2008, -1/+1I was thinking the same thing, just like, " CHIP YOUR PETS !!! "
See that worked so great, " NOW CHIP YOUR KIDS !!! "
" YOU HAVE 60 SECONDS TO COMPLY " - Robocop -
