- deter1ii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I feel bad for this little card, why did they have to chop off it's dongl?
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wouldn't get a card without directX 10 support. I know this card will still run on DX10 but from what I understand it will not make use of some of it's features.
If you are going to get this card, wait till DX10 does come out so that it becomes semi-obsolete and takes a nose dive in price. - lonnieh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I almost laughed when I googled this:

...and then I cried inside because I can't afford it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nice too see competition in the $199 price range and even with acceptable performance with the newer game engines. Thank god they got rid of the silly CrossFire dongle finally too!
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Failure to use the reply button slows the going-round of the world, however.
- batmn42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Unlike the R580 variants used on the other members of the X1900 family which are built on TSMC's 90nm line, the RV570 is built on the company's 80nm node. The RV570 also has a different pixel shader / vertex shader configuration, and in perhaps the biggest departure from the from the R580, the RV570 has native CrossFire support."
I think I understood about five words of that. - spect3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Lucas88
You make a good point
Waiting for the mid-range dx10 cards is worth it.. in the meantime it would be nice to pick a X1950 up for $85 (assuming) if/when vista/dx10 come out...
The price will take a nose dive, so just wait on it - Slovenian6474, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Exactly, people looking at high-end video cards need to wait a tad more.
- musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2allow me to paraphrase: sucks to be current owners of Videocards from ATI, who splurged a lot of money, only to render them obsolete in no time at all. We don't care for product longevity, and failure to update products every 2 and a half weeks, will not allow the chinese dynasty to prosper into the next century.
- PEteandPEte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2is DX10 coming out with Vista?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The real question is, when will DX10-based games come out? I would offer that you'll probably be on to your next graphics card upgrade by the time developers have titles on the market that really make use of DX10. You can play the wait and see game all your life in this market where new cards are release every six months or you can take the plunge and most likely get what you pay for....
- michaelothomas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I always like hothardware's reviews...very straightforward and to the point. There are tons of reviews out for this card today, my list is here:
http://www.gpureview.com/Radeon-X1950-Pro-card-466.html
Also note, this is the first ATi card to EVER do dongle-less CrossFire, which I'm happy to see them finally get working. - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you hit the wrong reply button...
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm unsure if there was sarcasm in there or not. (And I'm British - we're meant to be most proficient at sarcasm, from what I've heard.) I shall respond assuming no sarcasm.
"product longevity". Are you saying ATi should slow development to increase the time it takes for a top-of-the-range product to become "obsolete"? They have nVidia to compete with, you know. - musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hellgate: London will be DirectX10, designed by Mr. Bill Roper, who brought us Diablo! & II. DX10 will be out with Vista only, and apparently will not support XP, although I find that a shot in the foot, hard to believe, yah whatever syndrome.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How right you are, for-shame on me! I must have had a senior moment...
- musntSurfatWork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2heheh, trust me, I love computers and videogames, I was just venting. I bought 3 months ago, a used X1800XL for $350 CDN. I can't sell it off even at $175 anymore. It's an expensive hobby, but I decided to wait it out till DirectX10. I can't afford to buy into every upgrade as I used to back in the days of 386 => 486 => P1, P2, P3, P4, P4 rev 1thru99, AMD Opteron, Core2. It's all in good fun.
@ Wootery, you did not detect sarcasm in my post? What kind of Brit are you? - cresswga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1$199 is normally the price when I break down and upgrade but I decided to spend the extra $60 for the X1900xt instead.
Looks to be a pretty good card for the price though. - JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This card is just a video card to keep you over until DX10 cards come out. It's affordable. It has lower power consumption. It's only a single slot card. And you can have it in crossfire wiithout the dongles. First gen DX10 cards will be very expensive so this seems like a short term fix. It's a little slow and you can better for a little more money, but at $200 it sounds like the sweet spot for me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1musnt, you crack me up! Some folks actually applaud continuous innovation while you are seemingly making a mockery of it! And umm.. ATI is a Canadian company. LOL! It's all good, differing opinions are what make the world go-round I guess.
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1XTX Crossfire bitch slapping the ***** out of everyone
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh come on, how many americans have intact dongs?
(Proportionally not many. Even when not counting the women.
You cruel, cruel bastards.)
