It would be easy to be oblivious to an emergency in an area that size which could encompass hundreds of people (especially a self-absorbed ass who would use something like this). Even assuming you were completely aware of everything going on in your vicinity, I doubt you could sense important incoming calls. I'm sure the gentleman dining at the table next to you won't mind not receiving the call that the hospital finally has a transplant for him. I'm sure the mom sitting three rows behind you at the theater won't mind missing the call from the babysitter that little Timmy swallowed poison.
Yes, people are generally asshats on their cellphones. The solution to the problem, however, is not more people being asshats. - TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3People will die without mobile phones? This didn't seem to be a concern 20 years ago; landlines still exist, so find one. By law in the US business owners can't block mobile phones in their store unless the building was constructed out of resistant material before hand.
It wouldn't be a problem if people used common courtesy on both ends. Eventually this will be solved with the advent of having mobile phones implanted internally (thought conversation instead of spoken [telepathy]). - RomeyRome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+220 (even 5) years ago there were a lot more phone booths around.
- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4it will be funny when MLyzz gets shot and someone's trying to call 911 and some kid is using one of these things. i'll digg that story when the time comes

I don't have a cell phone. I'm going to die. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would only advise using a jammer in places where cellular telephone usage is highly annoying and socially unacceptable.. i.e. a resturant, movie theatre, classroom, etc. Maybe when some retard on the road isn't paying attention because of his conversation too.
Otherwise, I think it would be best to leave people alone. However, in these situations, it is rather difficult to get caught or for the FCC to do anything about it. If you're running it 24/7 out of your apartment and telling everyone about it, then you do deserve to get caught and it would be much easier to find the source of the interference to implicate you criminally.
Everyone loves to huff and puff indignatly on the Internet. The FCC can't do anything more than try to question you (and you can refuse to talk to them) and try to take signal readings outside your residence.
andrebsd you are just wasting your time. - entoutcas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow people really love their cellphone... Threatening physical harm and all that.
The fact is, cell phone jammer really SAVED alot more live then cellphone ever did... How do you think they prevent remote detonation of bombs? Jammer... You guys clearly aren't cops.
You'll be hard pressed to find any US vehicle in iraq not equipped with one, it's the solution to IED, what do you think soldier do to place a cell call? They just MOVE AWAY from the vehicle ( or turn them off, but that rarely happens ). That's all... The exact same thing you do when you get a low signal, you move to find a better one. You see an emergency ( and of course you don't offer to help! hell you're the all important cell guy who's gonna save the day! ), you move a couple of feet and you get your signal back.
Should we blow up moutains because they block signals? - n0fairzer0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You just got buried by all of the people at that friend's New Years party (plus two other random people) for telling atrocious lies. All three of us were thoroughly engrossed in a rousing six hour CSS bender.
- Gamil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great place to use them is where cell phones are not allowed, like at MANY schools, kids use cell phones to cheat on tests. Too bad those select few of cheaters and other inconsiderate people have to ruin cell phones for the rest of us. I have no beef against cell phones, only how they have become (to some people) a necessity for social life. Last time i checked, you did't need to talk to a friend who is cutting school, while your taking a test.
- stonesmaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All you people who think everyone is calling 911 aren't thinking straight. How did we ever survive 15 years ago when almost nobody had cell phones. I personally have never heard someone dial 911. But I've heard thousands of other pompous ***** spout worthless drivel.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1syowr, a person can be rendered oblivious to the world around them by a cell phone, news paper, MP3 player, Game Boy, TV, or playing with the jammer. It's a possibility, which is why I mentioned it in the first place.
Besides, your reasoning doesn't make it any more legal. =P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I should also add that its not smart to go posting online that you're doing illegal things with personally identifyable information.
- dubski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm cool idea but only works on these:
TDMA, AMPS, CDMA, NTACS, PCS, DCS, GSM, Nextel Direct Connect
How about the new networks like G3 and G4?? - DigitAl56K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What makes you feel you have the right to interfere with airspace regulated by the federal government and licensed to major cell operators? Interfering with cell phone service is not only dangerous, it's extraordinarily selfish. If you use one of these devices in an area with poor coverage you are going to knock out more than the area immediately surrounding you. You could block reception not only in the space you occupy, but in the next room, or the next building. And what if someone in your vicinity is not trying to call 911, but are awaiting an important call or message from family, or a child minder, or they're a doctor or specialist that needs to be accessible? How can you proclaim to know the importance of someone else's communication?
If someone is using a cellphone inappropriately there are lots of ways to deal with it. If they're in a cinema why not simpy shout out "Turn your cellphone off *****!"? If it's in a resteraunt throw the appropriate glare in their direction and shake your head. Inform the waiter that they're disturbing you. Maybe even learn a little tolerance for other people yourself - I bet you aren't perfect.
Inappropriate use of cell phones is one of a multitude of social problems affecting modern society. The solution is not to block cell phones. All I can say is that I myself am not a heavy cell phone user, but if someone was ever caught blocking my service I would be more than happy to claim damages against them in court whether or not they actually blocked a call on my phone. - maxboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1entoutcas, Apparently you do believe our opinions are incredibly important. And I thank you for that. Because most of the post I read are about the article. You, it seems are the one making this a personal statement against the people who don't agree with you.
- entoutcas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Because most of the post I read are about the article. You, it seems are the one making this a personal statement against the people who don't agree with you."
Come on, you have people here threatening to shoot people in the face... For a cell phone call? I'm just responding to these argument...
"Also, the argument entautcas makes about the kids calling the police instead of you isn't very valid in my opinion either. What if your teenager is lost? What if they got in a car wreck?"
If they are lost, how are you going to help? If they are in a car wreck, how are you going to help? Shouldn't they be calling someone that could really help them? If the situation is truly bad, the cops will contact you. Sure if you can help them it's nice, but I'm sure there's a zillion other people that could help them too.
People keep saying that : if there's an emergency! and I just want to find out what really are you going to do? Are you going to answer : "What? you had a car wreck? geezz let me grab my coat and my hydraulic life-jaw and I'm coming, no need to call real help".
Seriously if my babysitter call me before calling the 911 if my son drink some poison, I would strangle her. What am I supposed to do? I'm no poison expert. Information would reach me in time.
I really understand the point about criminal using this, but I really don't understand the assertion that people make that if their kids get in a car wreck and they can't reach you before emergency service, it would be catastrophic.
You seem to think that the whole medical/emergency ( hell the whole country ) rest on the reliability of verizon wireless and your ability to be reached...
For the jammer I think it's pretty stupid and I'm glad it's banned ( well it's controlled, cops/army have them, and they saved alot of lives ). - CrazyNic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about crime?! You used to be able to cut someones phone lines, and then break in without having to worry about them calling the police. With cell phones you always have to worry about them having a cell phone to call the police...well not anymore with this handy device.
- RomeyRome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Unless it's your plane, it's none of your business.
- mikeytwice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Of course people can survive without cellphones, but that's no excuse to be an *****. What if someone's calling you to inform you of an accident involving a loved one? Just because that information will make it's way around eventually doesn't mean anything.
People can be rude an annoying when using cellphones, but think things through a little bit. - wmtrader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Great....now I can get the 19 year-old A-Hole talking on his cell phone while I am trying to watch a movie to stop with out having to find him in the crowd and then yell across the theater.
Now if there was an electronic tool that would get the same jerks to take their feet of off the row of seats I am setting in. - msgmsg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who cares if someone is calling 911 with their cell phone? what about 20 years ago when nobody had a cell phone? landlines are not affected by this device.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's also a more humane alternative, that doesn't make you look like a complete dick. Either move away from the annoying guy on the cell phone or tell him to move.
Most dining facilities, if you tell the manager, they'll ask the guy on the phone to end the call or leave.
So, why spend $300+ and be a *****, when you could just be polite? - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"When riding the subway in NY having just one cell with their signals bouncing all over the place in that metal canister can be quite dangerous."
You should start wearing a tin foil hat then. - tokachu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a duplicate story. A search for "cell phone jammer" (using that handy-dandy "Search" box in the top-right corner) yields about a dozen results.
- syowr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not all of us live in amerikastan. Welcome to teh intarweb.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lol, I love all of the "but what about 911 calls!?!?" posts... How did people ever get saved before everyone had cell phones? I guess everyone just died back then (~10-15 years ago) huh?
- ravenmuffin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Over 100,000 emergency calls are made each day from cell phones.
Anyone caught manufacturing, selling, owning, or using a jammer in the U.S. is punishable by an $11,000 fine and up to a year in prison for each offense." - falseintellect, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cell phones.. technology we wish we could uninvent...
- Maagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Think about it... is the "bad" driver who is watching the road and talking going to suddenly start driving better when he/she loses his/her connection and starts looking at the signal meter on the phone and fumbling around trying to re-dial or shake the phone or something?
If you're behind a bad driver, go around em, give em the finger and go on.
and the "911 in the theater" argument is stupid. You're supposed to have your phone turned off when you're in a movie theater anyway. If you're that worried about your wife going into labor or little Billy who you left all alone in the house with a big box of matches then you are too stupid to live. - NuttySquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I remember a time when people didn't have cellphones. Emergencies still happened.
- mormandy1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cell phone jammers ROCK! I have played with one and LOVE IT. The one I played with has about a ten foot range max, so this whole thing about causing mass interference to doctors and the like is just silly. It is about shutting up one annoying jerk who is either close to you in a place you are forced to be in, or my favorite, the guy holding up the line at the store while blabbing on his cellphone. If you ride a bus or a train I would consider this a must have. I LOVE watching the moron stare blankly at their cellphone wondering what happened after you kill it. I do ask that those of you who buy one use restraint (once you are done testing..hehehehe). Save it for the jerks that really need to be shut up. Well worth the money.
- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy sheeit...the handheld is 0.6 watts....they have a 6 watt model on the site too. (!)
- EmmettSwink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About 200 people witnessed an ***** sitting right smack in the middle of a funeral chapel answering his phone during the funeral service.
This guy made no effort to speak quietly. We all listened to him say "what's up?"and proceed to have a stupid conversation about his plans for the rest of the day. After some 30 seconds, someone poked him in the ribs, and he loudly said,"well I'm at a funeral, so I'll call you later". ***** genious, this guy.
I don't think a taser would have been out of line there, and I would definately have used a jammer in that situation if I'd had one. - EmmettSwink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About 200 people witnessed an ***** sitting right smack in the middle of a funeral chapel answering his phone during the funeral service.

I don't think a taser would have been out of line there, and I would definately have used a jammer in that situation if I'd had one. And a hundred doctors with cell phones wouldn't be able to save Kenny, my friend in the box, so save the nonsense about safety. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this particular website has been around for several years now, so let's not act like like this is something brand new
I remember looking for this stuff back in 2003 and nothing has changed since then, except the currency exchange rates - syowr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0walkingdude: Are you sure we didn't evolve with celphones stuck to our heads?
- vurtx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hm.... we need one that will make all the cellphones in proximity ring loudly, and vibrate, and flash... and doesn't do anything else, for the next 30 mins... and u can't turn it off.....
- vannyx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i hate annoying people , but i tune then out, i dont tune them in and make them upset me even more with their conversations that has nothing to do with me. But when i need to make a call or recieve a call i want that ability, i dont want it taken away by anyone. because when i cant get my calls thats alot of money im loosing from missed work. I use my phone while i drive, i have a bluetooth headset and all important numbers are voice activated, and fiddling with my phone trying to make it work while im trying to drive because some ***** is using a jammer in the car next to me is more dangerous than the ***** who is using his phone without a headset in my opinion. I guess the same thing can be said about those who do annoying things to other people, or troll forums or make annoying posts online. What if someone made a device that disconnected you from the internet everytime you try to post something because they thought you were annoying. stopping you from using the service you pay for. I guess you wouldnt think its so cool then.
- j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I digg it for the prank-factor, thoughI don't like the idea in general. If I had one, I don't think I would get much use out of it. This seems to piss a lot of people off here though... Excessive cell phone users maybe?
- cheesetoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So what I want to know is when you hit the button to start jamming is it one quick burst that kills all of the calls within 30ft and then stops, or does it continue to jam signals until you turn it off.
- FlagrantSysErr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who is more annoying? A person on a cellphone or a person complaining about a person on a cell phone?
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This thing could be use for good, but also bad, depend upon the user. I just hope it doesn't create real troubles.
- TheRunes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe I should buy one of these. That way I can mug someone and they wont be able to call 911 until I'm gone. MUAHAHAHAHA! Actually I wouldn't do that. I think its a horrible comsumer device. It will cause crime to be easier or cost someone their life. It'll be fun to watch the court case after someone dies because of one of these things and the maker gets sued.
- mennonite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm rather disturbed by the many "we didn't have cellphones 15 years ago and still managed to call 911" arguments. We also didn't have ambulances back in the day yet still managed to get people to hospitals, but this certainly doesn't justify someone using countermeasures to disable all vehicles (and ambulances) around them because they have a personal distaste for cars.
Arguments stating that people should just go find a landline, or move outside the 30' diameter blackout area are equally worthless. For one thing cell jamming isn't something alot of people are aware of, giving them no insight to move out of the way. Furthermore, in emergency's seconds cost lives and I'm disgusted that anyone would place a higher premium on their mild irritation then someone elses life.
Aside from the 911 phone calls, I'm surprised no ones mentioned on call hospital staff or IT employees. With the advent of cell phones, individuals accustom to being 24/7 on call now have the freedom to enjoy diner in a restaurant or catch a movie despite the fact that their married to their phone. The functionality of their phone is something they will often take for granted and not periodically check to ensure it still has signal/etc. If an IT employee in a restaurant is fired because their phone doesn't vibrate as it should due to your jamming device, what level of responsibility for his situation do you feel? If a patient dies while waiting to be rushed to emergency surgery dies due to his cardiologist phone not vibrating like it's supposed to due to your jamming device, what level of culpability do you have in this situation?
PS: If you don't like cellphones, rather then turning into a bigger prick then the people "wronging" you, I suggest you take a good look at establishments that permitted smoking in the past and no longer do, how they came to the decision to ban smoking in their facility, and how individuals like yourself lead them to their decision.
PPS: If you're actually going to buy a jammier, grow some balls and tell people to get the hell off their phones to their faces, rather then silently disrupting their calls like a spineless coward. - vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ok so if the thing only works for about 30+ feet, why are you all getting bent out of shape over people calling 911? If someone is calling 911, you would probably be doing the same thing since you just experienced or saw whatever the hell they did and be calling yourself and not jamming anyone!
Seriously, sometimes I think that people need to check their skull cpus before making comments... - digigal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I want one!
I work at a newspaper printing plant and half of my fellow workers are on the phone while the machines are running. I'd turn in on at the beginning of shift and maybe we'd be out early for a change.
For those with safety concerns, we have landlines on both sides of the press room. - Remag1234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good for you MLyzz,
I had a jammer but it is now broken and the cost of repair is too high. I had lots of fun with it, especially when Aholes like the ones who complained about you were on the phone. They had no clue, put the phone away and it was quiet in the restaurant and movie theater. If you read this please email me where you bought yours and the cost. I paid
$225 USD. Repair cost would have been almost as much. - egon0119, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can see how this kind of thing has a place. Some asshat decided to answer his phone in the middle of the last movie I saw. (What the hell are they thinking?)
However, like that keychain remote control that turns off any TV this just seems like something that would be easily abused. Following people around with a jammer to drive them nuts? Come on, what are you, 12 years old? Grow up. - Remag1234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MLyzz,
I have to add that you are a Ahole, but only because you paid so @#$!%^& much for the same one I bought. I got mine direct from the manufacturer in Taiwan. They sucked when it came to repair it. -
