"5,000 smart tags embedded in the floor."
An RFID tag costs - cadpo76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apparently, digg eats "less than" signs, along with the rest of my comment.
..less than 5 cents to make, should that be the smart tag they are referring to. I would suppose the more expensive of the two components would be the robots. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So when do they hunt down Sarah Connor?
- TKn00b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0might be useful for foreigners going shopping
- flap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you for kidding me...this must be such a pain habing this thing lugging around behind you while you shop.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoops, I meant several hundred thousand people.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This seems like the most worthless invention ever. Where are they planning on using it? Fukuoka is the Japanese version of a small town in the countryside, but it's still a city of several hundred million people packed into a very small area. Considering how busy stores usually are, and seeing how big these things are...it just boggles the mind. I'll be interested to see how this works out.
- albeit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, no crap obsession in the US - Thank God!

That sounds like a significant upgrade cost for the mall. I don't think any American malls will be buying these robots anytime soon. They need to use a different location technology.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0It's all fun and games until someone gets BAG JACKED by an RFID robot in the parking lot!
