- cantaclaro, on 12/27/2008, -0/+15I love how every time the news picks up on a story like this the interview the most uneducated guy they can find. Those dudes didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
No ***** the soldiers will have to be careful with their movements. What more careful than not pulling the trigger on their hair trigger guns or more careful than having a couple of pounds of explosives on you at all times?
It sounds more like the last guy is talking the Pentagon out of it because he makes that bulky piece of ***** that costs, we the people, a couple million dollars and the Wii-mote modified and all will cost under $1000. - RealDealRick, on 12/27/2008, -1/+14A real life Call of Duty?!
- LightUrple, on 12/27/2008, -0/+10Seriously. They couldn't figure out before the Wii came along that a motion sensor would be more intuitive than 40 identical buttons and switches?
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+10all I can say is. . . uh-oh. . .
- maverex, on 12/27/2008, -2/+12Ugh... They are not using the actual Nintendo Wii controller. They are using the Technology. Buried for Incorrect Title.
- DatVillain83, on 12/27/2008, -0/+8I also heard that the Playstation 2 hardware had the capability to navigate missiles.
- bhsdrummer, on 12/27/2008, -0/+8it dont matter if they are or not. they are the army.
- thenativeraver, on 12/27/2008, -0/+7Well, I know for certain they can't use glovepie. The creators of that program explicitly stated they do not want it used for military purposes.
- LightUrple, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6All grammar aside, he's right.
- TyrannousDotNet, on 12/27/2008, -1/+6im paying these people taxes?!
- Krissam, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5but what if it lags? and i die? i heard there's no respawns in rl :/
- vipertech, on 12/27/2008, -2/+7Alcohol
- microphonix, on 12/27/2008, -1/+5I knew Nintendo was working with the government.
- thenativeraver, on 12/27/2008, -1/+5I bet your woman has used one before.... lol
- Licurgo, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3you can throw it to someone on the head, he bleeds and dies
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -2/+5I've never used the strap and never will... I am old enough to have full control of my hand and movements.
I don't get it how people can simply let go of the Wiimote in the middle of a swing. - ipushmycar, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3This video really has nothing to do with the Wii...
It's just saying they got inspiration from the Wiimote to make an easier to use control system for robots. They're not actually going to run out there with Wiimotes to control robots. This videodoc was awful in that they over exaggerated how large a role the Wii plays in this new robot control design. Basically, they're using motion sensing instead of 100's of complicated buttons. The Wiimote works for gaming, but is way too primitive and simple to ever have any real-world application. The motion sensing in a Wiimote would NEVER be trusted for handling explosives.
In the end, they're going to design something way more complex and expensive than a Wiimote. The only similarities between them will be motion sensing. Which is also in PS3. And many other electronics.
Buried as inaccurate. - sanman, on 12/28/2008, -0/+3New military recruitment ad:
Wii all that you can Wii! - LightUrple, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3I don't really get it either, I've never had a problem, but my sister seems to. After throwing it twice by accident, I now make her wear the wrist strap every time she plays.
- DrunkenPirate34, on 12/27/2008, -1/+4Unless Nintendo has something prohibiting it in the TOS, End User Agreement, etc.
- mrASSMAN, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2Well it's not especially clear. I certainly would think the Pentagon is capable of producing a controller device that is more accurate than the Wiimote..
- Broomie, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2There are so many possibilities for a war/Wii related joke, but all have failed so far.
- sanman, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2Heinlein could - that's why he mentioned that force-feedback controlled the power armor in Starship Troopers
- TheIndigoSky, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2They already use 360 controllers for some land based drones.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -1/+3and more blood and gore.
- vipertech, on 12/27/2008, -1/+3The US Army pays people to make and maintain the Americas Army game... You don't think they couldn't get something custom and would rely on someone else without access to the code?
Big LuLZ - inactive, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2hahahahahaha....that's a good one...hehehe.
- AlxRymnd914, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2DX 9000
- Gloony, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2It shall be called Project Enduring Bluntness.
- boardthis, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2wii exo-skeleton 2012???
- doublefelix, on 12/27/2008, -1/+3Wii Death?
- peters1023, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2we have flight simulators. I see no difference.
- rnawky, on 12/27/2008, -1/+3Good luck with 88Mb of RAM and 480p
- sanman, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2gonna need a stronger strap for this
- peters1023, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1agreed.
- ethana2, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1I got a wiimote to use as a mouse, I don't own a wii. The title of this story is misleading.
- omaryak, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1Yes, um, ahem, we must investigate this
(Cut to a bunch of researchers in a dark room somewhere playing with their Wii's …) - bob1029, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1I put my Wii into storage. It was violating my rule about proportionality of usefulness to space occupied.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1But mom, not now. I'm playing real life Call of Duty.
- alexsoze, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1Im glad that Ender's Game is panning out in real life.
- xdevit, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1Sounds like a ploy to get everyone a free Wii.
- nitr, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1WiiSpy - Works with Wii Fit balance board!
- noahhoward, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1How messed up do you have to be to judge a game system based on utility...
- BotchaMcCoola, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1Someone's stock is going to rise - and it ain't the US Taxpayers.
- ethana2, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1Don't worry about a thing. From the glovepie site:
System Requirements
You will need:
* Windows - mrBitch, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1Heinlein's Starship Troopers was first published in 1959 as "Starship Soldier".
Also, "Johnnie" Rico's ACTUAL first name in Heinlein's story was "Juan"... his nickname was "Johnnie". - sanman, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1But just imagine the commercial spin-offs for the gaming industry, if the military pioneers some really awesome new motion-based interface of amazing capability.
- matt.rubin, on 12/28/2008, -0/+1The pentagon can use anything to give them more money.
http://www.thegamergene.com/wp-content/uploads/200 ... - 007kz, on 12/27/2008, -0/+1I bet they're going to order a TON of Wii Motionpluses once it comes out
