On a side note, my E8200 runs just fine overclocked to 3.5GHz. Go back under the bridge where you belong, you ***** troll. Make sure your precious mommy that spoiled you takes away your internet connectivity too. Or do you steal it from your neighbor? Nah, probably too ***** stupid for you to know how to do that. - lolwutpear, on 04/08/2009, -0/+17I ***** loled.
- alarchy, on 04/08/2009, -0/+16Decent video for beginners, but wow that system they were demoing is over 3 grand...and it's just a 920, a GTX 285, and a hard drive. Just a tad expensive for "mid-range" parts.
- barkingfrog, on 04/08/2009, -3/+19I just accidentally my processor
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+11THERE WAS FIRE AND AND HE TELL ME DO THINGS
- harrison5394, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6this used to be a tech site... until guys like you came.
- Sakumi, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5AND I RUN AND....
G.I. Joeeeeeeee... - Rikushix, on 04/08/2009, -4/+9I'm building a gaming rig in a month and I've never overclocked before, this was a great tutorial.
- narutica, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4you must be a mac elitist
- Sakumi, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3You don't need to overclock the i7 in your "gaming rig".
Most the time the CPU is perfectly fine and not the bottleneck. - Aidenag, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4I overclocked my i7 920 to 3.6ghz with zero problems. has been running totally stable for months now. then again, i also have the thermalright 120 heatsink which helps a lot. can have CS4,Lightroom,Fallout3, and a half dozen small programs open at once and it never goes above 60c. idle it rides at 35c.
- ZooMigo, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2(havent watched the video, internet is too slow)
I just built a new i7 system for myself, and got the parts at a very reasonable price. I picked up everything including a better cooler (required) for about $700. The best part of building your own is that you can recycle older parts to keep the price down. I reused my old case, PS, HD, DVD and OS.
It took a while, but I finally found a good stable OC setting with reasonable temps. I reached 3.8Gzh on air, with 1.27v and max temp in the high 70s. I could push farther, but its too hot on air. This thing rocks!
Kevin - Larssonk22, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3this is geek porn
- addisonj, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2hmm... I have comparable parts... little cheaper on case, 850 corsair PSU, thrifty shopping, and without monitor or windows, i hit just under 1500, also with the evga mobo they have in the vid, it is pretty sick for the price, have no overclocked yet though....
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+5Overclocking can help you live longer.
- keyforce, on 04/08/2009, -3/+5The whole processor?
- Macintoshreader, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3THE WHOLE THING?
- MMaster23, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2Cool .. and I thought the billion X38 / X48 settings were hard to get right :X
- CheesyPoofs, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Over clocking may shorten the lifespan of a processor by a small margin, but for most of us to the extent the life is shortened we have long since upgraded our processor already.
- fluxion, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1say-duh, say-tah, same thing really as far as most americans are concerned.
kinda like terminator vs. terminador..fairly common pronounciation either way, usually cant even pick up the distinction
i've often heard "sah-tuh" and "sah-tah" as well, so i wouldnt split hairs on this one - bubbastrick, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1I say its Sat Uh, not Say Tuh.
- nurbsenvi, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Well, you know... like saaaa taaaa? he was like say-da or something.
- Biosfear01, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1i built myself an i7 rig about 3 months ago, i love it. i plan to over clock it sometime but not just yet.

http://games.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1999386 ... - Rikushix, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1I didn't say I "needed to". I wasn't even sure about getting a Core i7 CPU; it stands to reason that a "budget" CPU and a high-quality video card is going to give you much better results than a high quality CPU and a budget video card.
I just like the concept of overclocking. Even if it's not necessary, it's cool to push whatever you've built to greater and greater limits, increasing the value you get from it without paying more. - Ricochetbiscuit, on 04/08/2009, -1/+2Umm... actually, he does show that in the voltage setting segment. Hello? McFly?
- MightyUpsetter, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1why would you need to be using CS4 whilst playing a game?
Do something worthwhile. - Rikushix, on 04/08/2009, -1/+2Er...no? MacBooks and iPod touches are kinda cool but that's as far as my appreciation for Apple goes.
edit: or were you talking to MightyUpsetter - Jeremyz0r, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1His voltage segment is set at 1.3v.
- fluxion, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1how did you think it was pronounced?
- fluxion, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1via c3 1ghz @ 750mhz. whole system does 15W idle, ftw.
- NeoMantas, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1No, this is porn for geeks:
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff175/DustDevil ... - Jeremyz0r, on 04/08/2009, -1/+2Not once does he state that if you set the i7 to 3.6Gz(18x 200) you'll never need to up the voltage (from 1.2v) and it'll be stable. Going from 130W to 175W. Thanks.
- linuxeventually, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1How much did that rig cost you to assemble?
- Dr.Neko, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Indeed.
- freeforall079, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Well, that had to burn.
- DJWilsonX, on 04/08/2009, -3/+3let's underclock :)
- gaqua, on 04/08/2009, -1/+1Can it spell Kreiciss?
- nurbsenvi, on 04/08/2009, -3/+3SATA cable is pronounced seida cable eh?
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0I just burned my second flux capacitor. :(
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0Nice walls Nancy.
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0Yes I recommend overclocking all your life support systems.
- DeathRay2K, on 04/08/2009, -3/+2Yes.
- e2superman, on 04/08/2009, -4/+3all your chips are belong to us
- Ricochetbiscuit, on 04/08/2009, -3/+1Yeah, that was pretty good. nrox ROX!
- mu0p, on 04/08/2009, -3/+1hey guys wat's goin on here
- MrAbbas, on 04/08/2009, -4/+2will it blend ?
maybe but it sure will melt down! - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+1
It's not expensive if you custom-shop and research the parts u want:
I managed to get:
i7 920
6gigs DDR3 kingston
260+GTX (216) core
Gigabyte DS4 MB
1500 gb seagate
Antec900 Two Case
620 Corsair power
22" T2200HD
Windows Vista 64-bit
For under $2,500 AU, and that was about a month ago.
Prices are probably cheaper now - azureskies88, on 04/08/2009, -4/+1Is that dangerous?
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+0Read some reviews - you will see, how weel these CPUs actually perform. They are light years ahead of anything else, but overclocking just is not their thing yet, core 2 duo and quad processors overclock better for now.
You can find reviews of i7 CPUs here: http://www.lowfps.com/intel-cpu-reviews
