Liquid Nitrogen Cooling System - ?????
C'mon guys, help us out here! - Thekirby45, on 07/31/2008, -5/+152This guy is gonna score all the chicks now
- FishHammer, on 07/30/2008, -6/+143I look forward to a future with liquid nitrogen cooling being the standard so we can have our octocore duo's running at 24ghz soon.
- WallnutBoy, on 07/30/2008, -7/+131Just imagine how big his penis must be!
- killbert24, on 07/30/2008, -5/+120But will it play Crysis?
Oh, no... they should be focusing on the graphics card instead.
It's still cool to say you have a quad processor running at 5.1 ghz I guess, but it would be a pain to have to keep pouring in liquid nitrogen! - mikesbaker, on 07/30/2008, -5/+83… … … … … … … … … … … … … … … ______

- deepleet, on 07/31/2008, -3/+66Yes it will run Crysis.
- GregFD3S, on 07/31/2008, -2/+62Almost as cool as ordering a pizza from the command line.
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -1/+56Wow, notepad must load REALLY quick.
- arcooke, on 07/31/2008, -0/+49
Am I believing my eyes? Are people on Digg actually talking about technology? No cats, no demotivational anything?
I'm proud of you guys. Keep it up. - macbookhair, on 07/31/2008, -1/+485.1 gigaflops

- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -31/+73Blogspam, just link to the actual article.
- trunks333, on 07/31/2008, -2/+44*****, this guy is lying 100%, unless he lives in Northern Siberia and has his windows open all day.
- crowbar77, on 07/31/2008, -0/+38Dugg for being a tech article on the front page.
- cgg123321, on 07/31/2008, -0/+38Great, they disabled 2 cores
- Harbinger67, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3632768p resolution porn.
- Dokument, on 07/31/2008, -1/+35and in the future the dmv will still take like 7 seconds....
- DrGFreeman, on 07/31/2008, -1/+34But will it run Doom 2?
- RyanBlack, on 07/31/2008, -3/+36Finally, a digg article actually worth digging.
- waterdrop, on 07/31/2008, -0/+32Even on a good air cooler you can run these beasts safely at around 3.6Ghz on a good motherboard and they costs under $200 on Newegg nowadays.
- xDynaBlade, on 07/31/2008, -1/+29Or he can just render more porn faster than anyone else.
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -0/+26Even light only travels so fast...
- happytedium, on 07/31/2008, -2/+27e-penis*
- dOOBiEx213, on 07/31/2008, -7/+30Q6600 ftw
- nreynolds, on 07/31/2008, -1/+23the naming convention was the most important part of the post...
- Chainheart, on 07/31/2008, -1/+20You could easily do 3.4 with the HSF, I'd say.
- CATSCEO2, on 07/31/2008, -0/+17*ow*
Now what? - DocDEB, on 07/31/2008, -2/+19That and it writes the note before you think of it.
- mCanada, on 07/31/2008, -3/+19I've got a Q6600 at 3.1Ghz on the stock heatsink. is this too far? It does pass mprime (10 h)
- fpaudon, on 07/31/2008, -2/+17More like: "Never losing your virginity: priceless"
- danielsamuels, on 07/31/2008, -0/+15Do it again!
- fandyboy, on 07/31/2008, -4/+18Your mum runs Crysis at 300 FPS.
- carl25, on 07/31/2008, -2/+16well considering how the Q6600 is quad core and the 3rd or 2nd best cpu for that cheap (8400 and 8600)
yes ghz definitely plays the biggest factor - Myonosken, on 07/31/2008, -0/+14Why's he been buried? Blogspam is just pointless revenue theft.
- jgtg32a, on 07/31/2008, -1/+15They surrendered 2 cores before trying
- werries, on 07/31/2008, -0/+14yeah, to 5.1GHz.
thats more impressive even. - sirmasterboy, on 07/31/2008, -6/+18Well then you have a crappy GFX card or something, I don't know. For me on XP, dragging a window around is 40% of 1 core and on Vista it's 5% of 1 core.
Also, make sure that you are counting the pagefile as memory usage on XP since Vista doesn't use a pagefile normally. On 4GB of memory, XP uses ~300mb of physical memory and ~400mb of pagefile. Vista on the same machine is using ~700mb of memory right now and no pagefile.
Hey, I paid for 4GB so I'm glad Vista is actually using more of it instead of it sitting there not being used in XP. Also, I'm feeling a faster and snappier experience in Vista 64 than I am in XP 32. Using the pagefile just doesn't make sense when there is all that RAM on hand.
Also, after awhile Superfetch will kick in and learn what programs to cache so they are already partly or fully loaded into that spare RAM but don't worry, Vista's exceptional memory management knows when to instantaneously dump that cache when a demanding program needs the RAM.
It's not exactly rocket science... Vista is just a lot smarter than XP since its newer and was made to run on faster hardware with more resources available to actually use all the time and not just when you fire up an intensive app. - victorc26, on 07/31/2008, -0/+12No, nothing is wrong with his Q6600.
Different Q6600 (And any other processor for that matter) have different voltage thresholds that will let them clock higher.
Basically, all processors are defective. Some are just less defective then others.
Just Google it. - MrM1yagi, on 07/31/2008, -0/+12They probably bought 3-4 different Q6600s, tested to see which one overclocked the highest and then tweaked it to 5.1GHz.
- pHreaksYcle, on 07/30/2008, -7/+18I hate to break it to you but that was lame.
- Evilblobs, on 07/31/2008, -2/+13Relative to other processors, the core clock speed is meaningless, comparing it to itself, the clock speed is everything.
This is why the 2.4Ghz Athlons kicked Pentium 4 ass, even though the P4 reached like 4GHz.
If you're comparing the same core, the clock is everything, a 3GHz Wolfdale (E8400) vs a 3.16GHz wolfdale (E8500), the performance is directly relative to the clock speed.
So for this article, the "Megahertz Myth" has no meaning - sirmasterboy, on 07/31/2008, -0/+11That's an EVGA commercial featuring k1ngp1n. He regularly holds the world records in all the versions of 3DMark.
- beingdevious, on 07/31/2008, -0/+11they actually disabled 2 cores to run higher frequencies
- Tenoq, on 07/31/2008, -6/+17@ sirmasterboy
I just tested that theory on a dual-boot box - No, it doesn't. Vista still uses more CPU time to drag a window around the screen, and certainly more memory. - expert01, on 07/31/2008, -0/+10If you look around online, they've tested the four-card (with 2 cores per card) setups on the Skulltrail mobos and found that CPU was a limiting factor for some reason, not the graphics processor.
- migshark, on 07/31/2008, -4/+14Pfft, you're thinking within the universe man - open your mind! When I'm 40, I'm going to have my Iphone 99.0 working with a parallel array that's constructed in parallel dimensions!
