- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -10/+111Time to start wearing lead-lined undies to the airport. Set up a tin-foil hat vending stand outside for maximum profit.
- ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -24/+120I say invasion of Privacy. Same sex screens you? I don't think that makes it much more comforting.... especially after the guy screener winks at you after the scan..... Also, would you want to wear a metal plate that hundreds of others have stuck in their pants? O.O Besides, you could just stick a weapon behind that plate, and they'd never see it.
Sad thing is, this tech will probably make it to the US in the near future. Flying used to be so cool and awesome. Now it's like something out of a movie where the Government takes complete control (V for Vendetta, Equilibrium, THX 1138, maybe a little Matrix...) - theprez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+87I cant' see it on that page, I think it's this one:

Rapiscan? Rapescan would've fit better. - iFelix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+72". Also, would you want to wear a metal plate that hundreds of others have stuck in their pants?"
You don't get the metal plate, that was just for the modesty of the reporter, Joe Public is screened full frontal! - jujubear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+62OMG!!! He's bringing a sports drink onto a plane, stop him before he rehydrates us all!
- wusupdoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+54Well, I'll certainly be filling in my application for airport screener tomorrow.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -19/+68This is one serious invasion of privacy! It's getting way out of hand. Anybody who thinks this is necessary (or even effective) to secure an airplane needs to wake up and realize that it's just a test to see how many of your rights you will give away. When you fail, we all lose.
- redhotsnake, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55Yeah I agree. Chances are they've seen me naked before anyway. Think of the fun we could have. Enormous prosthetic genitalia, Comedy birthmarks etc.
- MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -6/+50I've always worn lead lined undies, superman is a pervert.
- merm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44Did you not see the part about the requirement that screeners be the same sex as the ones being screened?
You may in fact be the first person to "come out" on digg. I salute your courage! - timwizard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Honestly, this is the kind of stuff the terrorists jump for joy over. Their goal is to change our lifestyle, make us inconvenienced and afraid with every new precaution we must now undergo. The terrorists win.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41I've been in one and I cared a lot less about it than I thought. I was also able to choose whether or not I used the seethrough nekkid one or the traditional screening line, and the body scanner line was about ten times shorter and twenty times faster. You just step in, stand on the feet marks on the floor, wait about 7 seconds, step out, done. I didn't need to empty my pockets or anything.
As for the guy who was screening me, he couldn't have looked more bored with seeing naked people all day. And for those of y'all worrying that some gay guy is going to be looking at you naked, I have two points: (1) Don't flatter yourself; and (2) it's likely happened many times before and you didn't know it, even within your own group of chest-beating gym buddies. Who cares? - netburnr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Doesn't work for me in FF on Winblows either
- franksands, on 10/12/2007, -15/+48Just remember the favorite phrase of our beloved G.W. Bush: "No price is too high to fight the war on terror!"
It doesn't matter that your privacy is completely violated, that you are treated like a criminal, it all doesn't matter, because they are fighting the big nasty terrorists with weapons of mass destruction that will tear the world apart!! - trevorduke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31cant seem to get this video to play in safari =/
- dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -21/+49Wait a sec...it's used as a secondary measure in Heathrow and nowhere else. You have the option to pat down or other more secure searches if the preliminary one fails you, so you aren't forced into this machine. And the company is developing one that will keep your privates..err...private.
Nothing worrisome here. You have a device being field tested in one location, Heathrow airport, and you have the option of other methods of search should you fail the basic one we all do now. False alarm. - vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -15/+41I know that no one has ever seen you guys naked, but is this really that big a deal? We all look the same under our clothes...
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Thank goodness for the Firefox rendering engine switcher! :)
Yahoo really should fix their website though. :( - neoknight, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24ok, what if you hide something right behind your private parts on in the crack in the back, and ask to put that black thing in when you go to be screened, then what??
no peekaboo there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21+1
And how does this prevent someone from entering the plane who's swallowed a small C-4 time-bomb or perhaps stuck one in their ass? Terrorists have no qualms with blowing themselves up, so this type of search is completely superficial. - christianw, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26this is going to go over like a lead brick the first time a tsa screener is found to have been either convicted or suspected of sexual assault on a child. big shock all of a sudden they seem to scan a lot of kids at houston hobby.
- liquidizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Funnily enough the advert plays in full in FF on Windows, just not the content. So I guess Yahoo doesn't care about fixing it then.
- Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22It's Yahoo. They use ActiveX all over their site and this is one of the places they use it. They haven't read the memo yet, apparently.
Oh and iduno871, yeah you'll have no troubles getting spyware/adware/malware installed through your browser. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23I can see it now... paranoid geeks who fly... wearing tin-foil underwear.
- RickySan65, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19"this tech will probably make it to the US in the near future"
If you watched the video you would have heard that the US already has 4 of those machines.. - Sp4nk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I'm sorry, but how is this going to add to our security? History has shown that the problem lies with moron airport screeners, not the technology.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Watch the video next time, it is being used.
- Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16But, does it detect snakes?
- Endemoniada, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I like how they censored his butt. Seriously, a naked butt isn't going to harm you in any way. If it does, you have more serious issues anyway...
- igdrasa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I think it would be a better idea to remove he motivations for terrorists than the rights of innocent civilians. And as said above, the problem lies with the screeners, not the tech. http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/03/airport_passeng.html here is the run down of why airport sceeners are a waste of time.
- fulldecent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Agenda:
1. Make transportation unbearable by plane or by car
2. Tap all communication
3. De-neutralize the internet
4. Become China - aetherFox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I think you're absolutely right. They made the world powers *****-scared, and now we're basically living through the crap our governments inflict on us world-over.
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Digg needs a filter for "title says it all" during submission.
- whackaxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11i'm going to go register airpr0n.com
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -13/+24Same sex means nothing, I wonder if they have ever heard of homosexuality? Is it impossible for the same sex to not harass eachother? Also, who cares about that aspect, it's more that this is ***** and WE RUN THIS COUNTRY, don't let the government go unchecked. At least vote, if not revolt when we go down this path - wake up.
- thedak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I think it's more a matter of being forced to give up further freedoms for paranoia. There has to be a line somewhere.
- iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -11/+21i love all the people so afraid that someone might get a glimpse of their pp. i wonder, are these the same people who argue that America is too afraid of sex but fine with violence?
- ylph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It has been well established that airport security screening is all for show. These measures are not designed to keep us safer, but at best to fool us into hoping we are, and even worse, by forcing us to stand naked in front of the authority of the government and their uniforms, they serve to strip us of our human dignity and scare us into submission. We are slowly being turned from a former nation of proud individuals served by our government to a herd of nameless frightened sheep huddled at its feet, ever so thankful for letting us live another day by keeping the Big Bad Terrorist at bay.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10While we don't have marraige rights yet, homosexuality tends to act as a loophole in our favor for so many of these situations...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Isn't this the same machine they've been complaining about for the last two years?
- n3r0, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15as long as it dosen't have a printer attached i'm okay with it.
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8he put a piece of metal down his pants because i doubt cnn would want a peenis shown on their network. i also doubt that you will ba able to use the metal thing at the airport. would you want to stick something down your pants that the guy in front of you just stuck down his? i dont think so. so, if some woman stuck a gun up her puss, and it showed up as a black blur on the screen....i think they would notice something is wrong.
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11works wonderfully in FF and ubuntu :)
- dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Thats the lead piece he shoved in his pants. Apparently, it shows up in both sides.
- garreh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'll have the sexeh woman manually search plz!1
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Total Recall anyone? What happens when clothing becomes the explosive? Fly the friendly skies... naked?
- Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Because it's so hard to use double bottom. The portion she has to drink can be in a plastic bag inside the bottle, for example.
.. just wanna illustrate how ridiculous and lame those "security" checks are. - Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7airports need these screener machines. how else are we gonna keep those ***** snakes off those ***** planes?
- Geckomind, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Has everyone in the US gone mad now? You really think that'll stop terrorism? Here's some news: If you are really determined you can blow up a plane by using stuff lying around on board. Airline security people have known that for years. This is pathetic.
Wanna stop terrorism? How about trying not to meddle in affairs of states on the other side of the world so much. That'll work better than this crap... - sincewednesday, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Turn off AdBlock for it to work in Firefox, then it works in Firefox Mac.
