- DeviateSeptum, on 07/30/2008, -3/+61BUT WILL IT RUNS NETHACK ?!??!?
- GlitchEnzo, on 07/30/2008, -3/+44It doesn't ... and in the bad way. The 9500 GT is only SLIGHTLY better than the 8600 GT. Considering you can get an 8600 GT from newegg brand new for $40 (after rebate), I would say that is a much better deal.
- GlitchEnzo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+39Don't worry, your 8800 would completely outperform this. No question.
- nc60659, on 07/30/2008, -6/+44The perfect card for the non-gamer who wants to pretend to be a gamer in the presense of non-gamer friends.
- KMartSheriff, on 07/30/2008, -6/+38BUT WILL THIS JOKE EVER BE FUNNY ?!??!?
- wonkavsn, on 07/30/2008, -1/+21You can get an 8800GT for about 130$ and it's significantly more powerful.
- Bologner, on 07/30/2008, -2/+22I agree, but I just wanted to do it this one time.
Sorry, Digg. - Bologner, on 07/30/2008, -12/+29***** you, two of my friends died trying to run Nethack.
- shrewduser, on 07/30/2008, -3/+19if you turn the visuals down... maybe...
- InfernoX, on 07/30/2008, -0/+15Maybe in a couple of years when ipods are capable of running Crysis.
- cdigioia, on 07/30/2008, -7/+20***** you, this meme is getting annoying as hell.
- slayernine, on 07/30/2008, -1/+14Yeah the 9000 series is kinda a flop in general. Price drops by nvidia right now are only designed to grab up market share because ATI out of nowhere is taking a runnaway lead on the price vs performance charts.
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -4/+16How does this compare to an 8800?
- cheappop, on 07/30/2008, -3/+15Not very well. In fact, it won't perform much better than an 8600gt.
- Supertag, on 07/30/2008, -1/+12This story is total crud. The 8800GS / 9600GSO (same card) is under $100 and about 3 times as powerful. This is just a 8600GT with a 9500GT sticker on it.
- sirmasterboy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+11EVGA Dual-Slot 8800GT $119.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTool ... - MacSuxWindozSux, on 07/30/2008, -0/+10GPU-Z 8800gt results versus 9500 Specs:
Core clock: 600mhz - 550mhz
Shader Clock: 1500mhz -1400mhz
Memory Clock: 900/1800 - 800/1600
Stream Processor Count: 112 - 32
Memory Bandwidth GB/s: 57.6 - 25.6
Texture Fill Rate GTps: 33.6 - 8.8
The 8800gt completely destroys a 9500 in performance terms. - MetricMike, on 07/30/2008, -1/+11Yeah... when comparing nvidia cards you should look at the 2nd number like the 800s are 9800, 8800, 7800 and so on and so forth. Usually a higher second number will outperform a higher first number, but usually only across one generation (example: 8800 better than 9500, but 9600 better than 6800). This carries onto the newest cards, but they got rid of the very last number (so you'll see 280 instead of 2800).
x800-x900 are high-end enthusiast cards. They cost a lot of money and usually aren't worth buying the moment they come out cause they're priced so high.
x500-x600 are middle-range cards. They are usually worth the buck for their bang and can play most, if not all, games on the market when they're released at decent settings.
x300-x400 are low-end budget cards. They are better than integrated graphics but don't expect much more. I mean, seriously you're getting these cards for like $50. - GlitchEnzo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+10I wouldn't be that excited. It's barely better than an 8600 GT and it costs almost twice as much ($40 vs $80).
- lucy22, on 07/29/2008, -6/+16I am still using the 8800. That is a great price "cause I paid $$. I wish I had waited, but I needed it right away for games. I am sure this new one will make everything look better!
- cheappop, on 07/30/2008, -0/+10For $80, you can get an 8800gs.
- KMartSheriff, on 07/30/2008, -1/+10See, that's retarded. You'd think since it's a higher number scheme, it would be better (anything in the 9xxx range would be better than anything in the 8xxx range). But, obviously, that's not the case when an 8800 is better than a 9500 or even a 9800 (i think it's better than the 9800...not positive though).
- Gizza, on 07/30/2008, -0/+9So you spent $1500 and didn't even get a card in that total? Wow, did you get ripped off.
- cdigioia, on 07/30/2008, -1/+10Ah now I feel bad...
- slythfox, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8What I'm wondering is how much worse this card is from the 9600GT, and if it justifies the price. 9600GTs can be obtained for ~$100 now.
- GlitchEnzo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8Read the comments above, there are much better alternatives for the same amount of money - specifically the 8800.
- Darksoul, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8Yeah why bother take that $100 and save it for a newer ATI 4850 or just go and buy a HD3850 this card is ***** and a waste of money anybody buying this card is stupid. Or hell if you are a brand nut then take that plus another 30 bucks and buy yourself a 8800.
- slayernine, on 07/30/2008, -4/+128800gt is a very nice card also for a very low price. Don't waste money on a card that can't keep up with the vast majority of games that you want to play. Plus the 8800gt overclocks like a badass.
- InfernoX, on 07/30/2008, -0/+7the 4850 is still an amazing deal.
- karrtoon, on 07/30/2008, -2/+9for an extra 50 bucks on newegg you can get a hd4850, which will get you a much higher framerate than this card.. (i get 6500 score in 3dmark vantage) its comparable to my friend's geforce gtx 260 which he paid $350 for..
- waterdrop, on 07/30/2008, -2/+9The 9600GSO/8800GS and 9600GT can be purchased for a bit under $100 after rebate on Newegg.com They are also considerably faster.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 07/30/2008, -0/+78800 buries the 9500.
It's not even close. The 8800 performs more than 2x better in some situations. - inactive, on 07/30/2008, -2/+9Does anything work with Mac?
- albi123, on 07/30/2008, -1/+7Its cheap because its terrible, it performs the same as an 8600gt which is $40 I believe on newegg.
- ProfessorLX, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6for $100 ill let you sleep with my wife
- deepleet, on 07/30/2008, -1/+7But will it run minesweeper?
- cheappop, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5Much, Much worse.
- coolchu001, on 07/30/2008, -1/+6An 8800GS is better than this for less money
- Atomic05, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5That's right. If you want to get the maximum bang for your buck right now you'll want to get a Radeon HD 4850 or 4870. I just built a new system and just one of these 4850 cards is more than enough for what I play. Company of Heroes, HL2/Portal/TF2, WoW; everything runs silky smooth. Newegg was even running a combo deal on them with quad core AMD processors (9600 I think) for $55 bucks off. The card does run extremely hot out of the box because the default fan speed is too low, but there's a quick and easy fix for that problem until ATI does something about their driver software.
So unless you've got some weird attachment to a particular chipset company, I would go with ATI for now. - geoken, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5And more importantly, will it run Oregon Trail?
- solidus636, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5For $130?
Lowest I've seen was $145, and that was AFTER using promo codes and getting rebates, but before shipping and tax. - Ahnteis, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Um... I happen to be able to afford a much beefier gfx card, but the quality of your hardware is NOT what qualifies you as a gamer. It's whether you game or not.
- Kamael, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4This is a very sad card... even for its price.
- tito13kfm, on 07/30/2008, -3/+7I wouldn't say almost as powerful.. At least not in most games/resolutions. It's about 20-50% slower in almost all games and benchmarks at 1280x1024 (a very normal resolution)
- whoreable, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Dude you could run camper strike with a paper clip, a piece of yarn, and a stick of gum. So yeah ..... it will run camper strike.
- InfernoX, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4the 4850 can play Crysis on high at around 30-40 FPS..... it's well worth $200
- schrutefan, on 07/30/2008, -1/+5$100 gets you a HD3850. Cut the price on this piece of ***** to $60 or less.
- fandyboy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4yeah 1.6.
- cnot3, on 07/30/2008, -4/+8Its tech news on digg, a bit of a rarity these days, just be glad its not about the dark knight, how Obama's ***** doesn't stink, or some stupid picture that belongs/is on 4chan.
- Enderic, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4And no open-source drivers D=
