N + F - G = X - julialopez, on 03/28/2008, -1/+14i'm just imagining how many icons i could fit on that desktop :P
- sungoddess808, on 03/28/2008, -0/+13Beautiful system! I want one too. =)
- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 03/28/2008, -1/+13whats with the mighty mouse?
- hello2usir, on 03/28/2008, -0/+11Very insightful.
- Bukowsky, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10My boss has a very similar setup...three wide-screen monitors. It's pretty sweet! But, the bastard won't make room in the budget to get me dual screens....
- faceless323, on 03/28/2008, -0/+10minimalist FTW.
i wish my setup looked like that. - Prototek, on 03/28/2008, -0/+6Seems like a heat box destined for hardware failure but I guess everyone on the quiet PC forum likes it, so what do I know?
- jeuhrn, on 03/28/2008, -1/+6I usually don't check stuff like this out, but this was awesome, looks so nice compared to the dusty Dell dimension in my Ikea desk. :(
- DeskFlyer, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4I wish I had my workstation at home....
http://i27.tinypic.com/11hqexl.jpg - inactive, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4Ha! at work my computer = compaq 500mhz with 512mb of ram (thats recently it was only 256 mb for years) , you can imagine the horror of having to work on it everyday...
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -0/+4IS THAT A CROCHETED 1-UP MUSHROOM I SEE?!?!?
- holymrack, on 03/28/2008, -0/+2You put your monitors on the floor? Über lame.
- mstoneburner, on 03/28/2008, -1/+3If it works.....
- inactive, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Looks nice, but i would of splurged on faster ram. I Like the video card idea, but haven't felt confident enough yet in having everything in my case with heat sinks only.
- flangepiece, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Yes! Yes I can...I recently managed to get my chronically old PII 300 Mhz work computer upgraded to a PIII 500 Mhz with 512mb RAM that had become obsolete as a training PC. Crazy as it seems, I used my own money to stick a PCI video card in there (yeah, old-school PCI) to get dual head (fnar). I tried three monitors for a while using the onboard too (one for database, one for website editing, one for email). Bizarrely it wasn't ***** performance that made me go back to two screens - I found myself getting massively stressed out because I could never complete a single task without getting distracted. As soon as I went back to two, I magically chilled out again. The moral of this story? *****, I've forgotten.
- pigglesnout, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Mirror for the images?
- GregofJersey, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Hands down the smallest ethernet cables connecting the two switches. Niiice

? - timmillwood, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I really like it, shame im an Apple Fanboy
- andycr512, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2It can - all it takes is a few sweeps of the hand.
Of course, then your floor lacks minimalism - hey, nobody's perfect. - everfresh59, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2That Mighty mouse takes the cake......
- jackyyll, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Wrong.
F = free time
G = girlfriend
N = nerd
M = money
X = rack mount super badass pc w/three monitors
(N + F) + M^-G = X - fjc8, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2My experience in reading the article has been that he bought fanless nVidia GPUs.
- skubiszm, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Anyone know where he got the 12U cabinet from? I have been looking for one, but they all are really expensive.
One of the comments mentioned http://www.orionuk.biz/, but the link didn't work and I didn't find anything on their website. - lukas88, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I'm digging on the lack of visible cables. So far, aside from bundling them all together where possible, I have not found a good solution for the mess of cables that my machine has. My keyboard and mouse are wireless, but the speakers, monitor, and a few other USB devices still need a solution.
- greenm1981, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2How do you sleep at night?
- ZaZ2137, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Oh good! I thought I was seeing things.....it looked so real...
- Hamsterpotpies, on 03/28/2008, -1/+2Looks really nice.
- tempusrob, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Cabinets are expensive. Not much you can do about that. Try blackbox.com though ...
- tempusrob, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1Velcro cable ties are the answer! http://preview.tinyurl.com/2pd3e6 This way if you need to move/disconnect anything you can do it without scissors. :)
- kingshez, on 05/20/2008, -0/+0Try the following link for range of Orion Server Cabinets and Server Racks: www.OrionUK.biz
- ligyron, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0Nevertheless, I think it's a great simulation of looking out a bay window that he put together
- PHiZ187, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1I agree it is pretty minamalist. With the website not loading pictures and all... ;P
- doubleaught, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1So I understand he was going for less expensive, with 2GBs of ram and an E4300, but it just seems criminal to use 7600GTs. Plus my experience has been Nvidia GPUs are noiser than ATI (based on much past experience and current gen stuff like the 9600GT and 3870.)
Still, not gonna rip on him too much that's a nice clean setup. Well thought out. - Liv2bWild, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1I knew I should of taken pictures and posted my setup! ;) I guess a Samsung 22" and two 19" isn't enough, with a Cat6 Rack in the other room, tri-booted with Xp64,Vista64 & Ubuntu64, windows 2008 domain, for "testing" of course ;), Hackintosh HTPC....just isn't cool enough..
darn.....By the way, his patch cords are not spec length! :) - anarchytv, on 03/28/2008, -2/+1Not... very... UG... three people to carry... portable....
- doubleaught, on 03/29/2008, -2/+1I'll take "missing the point" for 500, Bob. The 7600 is a terrible performer. Ya got me on the "plus" point. Kind of ironic you got me on not remembering all of what I read in a large article but you didn't even read my 4 sentence post.
- MookiBlaylock, on 03/28/2008, -3/+2Ummm....damn man.
Bitch.
LOL - Probatus, on 03/28/2008, -2/+0Some guy has pics of his e-penis and it makes it to the front page? I fail to see the awesomeness of this. A naive user might find this amusing, even impressive. I will however admit I am glad it did not have neon lights puking all over the place.
Move along, nothing to see here. - Todesengelvr6, on 03/28/2008, -3/+1How did this make it to the front page? I've seen way better setups than this. This is nothing special...
- ligyron, on 03/28/2008, -6/+1I've seen plenty of more impressive setups than this. This just looks like the kind of setup your typical geek would have
- DWNamu, on 03/28/2008, -7/+1Neat Setup, but "Hard disc is a 250Gb SATA Samsung SP2504C. This is pretty quiet, and seek noise is hardly noticeable. To help dampen it down further, I fitted it in a Scythe Quiet Drive enclosure, and then suspended the whole thing with bungee cord in the case."
A bungee cord suspending your HDD... Douche! - maehem, on 03/28/2008, -10/+1So you bought 3 monitors and put them on the desk? And they're not even 30"? Uuber lame.
