Apple fanboys (yes all of you) will jump for joy as Apple shows off the new ipod... doesnt matter how poorly designed or DRM crippled it is
Microsoft Fanboys (the other half of you) will jump for joy as Microsoft shows off Origami... No matter how oversized and 10" Tablet-PC esque it is.
Linux fanboys will sit in the corner in quiet siclusion plotting on how to cleanly get the next build of Debian on both.
And thus goes another tuesday to the fanboys. - clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Everyone is looking to Apple. Microsoft has various "press" events every couple of weeks. My journalism teacher use to work in silicon valley and was her newspapers Microsoft guru, being flown out to every little junket they had. Nobody cares. Nobody hears about it.
Microsoft had to launch on one of the most massive and popular cable channels (MTV) under the wings of one of the largest media giants in the world.
All Steve Jobs has to do is walk a couple hundred yards from his office and he will get more coverage than Microsoft tomorrow. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You know, half the submissions to digg about "origimi" are clearly viral plants. Duh.

I want both companies to do well. But that aside, it's not simply a matter of market share; it's also about momentum. And right now Apple is perceived as having a lot of momentum while Microsoft is perceived as having very little. - seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ha ha. in development.
HA HA!! - Xipher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"I didn't hear that many ooo's or ahhhh's at the last microsoft presentation."
Since all they had was Vista, and Justin Timberlake...
Either way Origami is a stupid name for a handheld. - bradspry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"in development" is the keyword there.
They could be farting bits for all I care. - yikiad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2did anyone else notice that in the beginning of the origami video, the chick is using Logic in OSX? check it out
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you look closely at the keyboard you can actually see that MS has now incorporated a one button "CTRL-ALT-DEL" key!
Sarc! - gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Microsoft is announcing a 6-inch device that combines a PC, a phone, a camera, a video player, a GPS tracker, and a Gameboy. Also it heats Hot Pockets and dispenses Chicklets."
But will the Hot Pockets run Linux? ;)
Digg for heated public-relations competition. - jbus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I guess Microsoft must really be worried about Apple's momentum and popularity.
I guess they also don't realize that resorting this kind of tactic this makes them look really sad & desperate. - ToonPang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Microsofts events are great!! Like the one at CES with Conan, that was so awesome!! Everything either crashed, bsod'ed or just plain didn't work. And Conan's "who the hell is running MS anyway?" comment was priceless.
There wasn't so many oooh's and aaahh's at that presintation either, but there was pleanty of laughter.... - MikhoohkiM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know about the stealing Apple's thunder part, but this could be cool, I wonder who is going to put out the bigger stuff?
- muikano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People that diss the ipod are strange. Because after a long line of really dissapointing mp3 players, Apple is like a breath of an analogy.
The click wheel is fraggin intuitive as hell. Smart Playlists sync really well. And you can control manage your whole library so intuitively. Jesus, It's just a very powerful package.
It's a good machine. It's not overhyped. iPod user.
The only thing they lack is a replaceable battery. That's their only flaw though. - phoenix11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Microsoft wants to steal Apple's thunder on Tuesday. Announces Critical Security Patch."
- MyBotPiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>> totally. imagine if both apple and microsoft collaborated on a project.
>Apple tried collaborating with MS once, a long time ago. It didn't work out too well. >Apple got burned pretty bad.
And the result from that was what we now call "Windows" - 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And jkfan87 thinks that *I* live in a fantasy land.
Dude, as I've written so many times in the past, I WANT both Apple AND Microsoft to be successful because the competition is good for all of us. But you, sir, are the most blatant example of an anti-fanboy I've ever come across. In reading your opinions over these past months I realize just how sad it is that so much of your self worth seems to be inversely tied to Apple. And because Apple is getting so much positive press from the "sheep media," and so many "sheep consumers" are buying iPods, and (contrary to your opinion) so many "sheep computer users" are purchasing Macs: well this has just got to be killing you.
Can you possibly for just one moment imagine how it is that when Apple is successful it will also make Microsoft better. And of course the inverse is true also.
You call Apple fanboys delusional. Okay, a lot of them are. But you should really take a look in a mirror, jkfan87, and you'll see someone with his own set of "delusional fanboy issues." - plasticated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, good luck with that MS ;)
- fourfive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0don't get my hopes up!
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2sorry, no can do. Nobody gets hyped for microsoft products. When fans don't get excited, presentation isn't exciting. I didn't hear that many ooo's or ahhhh's at the last microsoft presentation.
- hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh and um, i dont think that this article is cery valid, the origami cant be realeased yet because according to its viral marketing website ( http://www.origamiproject.com/1/ ), it still has two more weeks of gay flash teasers. nice try MS.
- evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"When's the last time Microsoft stole Apple's thunder circa 1997?"
I give up.. when in 1997 did Microsoft steal Apples thunder? - jbus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Emm, I found that woman left her house, while the computer is right there. And right after she is out of the house in the yard, she use the whatever ugly device to active Windows Media Center on the computer. Is she retarded?"
lol... I wish we could rate comments as funny, because reading this just now made me shoot the Pepsi I was drinking out of my nostrils. Now I have to clean up my keyboard dammit! - PDAIsAOk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Could it be possible that Apple will be showcasing a similar devise? An ultra portable tablet like computer that has front row. Maybe this is where that touch screen is coming into use rather than a full screen iPod..
- funkyp56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ill buy one, i like wi-fi devices
- sdpalmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To be honest with y'all, I don't think there was a lot of thunder in Apple's announcements today - pretty ho-hum: not entirely unexpected that the Mac mini finally went the Intel route. And those speakers? Big deal - looks dreadful! Saving grace is that you can connect them via Airtunes. Other than that - not a lot of thunder - not even a mild roar.
- MRKisThatKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shall we expect some non-sensical powerpoint slides involving clouds?
- hayden.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0personally i think origami or whatever the hell they're gonna call it is FUGLY. it looks like a total plastic piece of *****. Same goes for vista, i mean, windows xp service pack 3, or the new windows skin.
- buffymcmuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Origami, the art of making something that is plain look interesting and pretty.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"How old and innaccurate is this argument, really? Apple is no less innocent, they stole the graphical OS from Xerox/PARC... and if you want to whine about how M$ stole apple's shiny interface and made millions, just blame your boy Steve for not licensing his OS to the general PC market... THAT is what killed the Mac OS and OSX and so on... quit your fanboy whining already and let's get on with life..."
He was talking about stealing Apple's proverbial thunder ... the attention they would get from their announcements, not their ideas.
AND: the wonder of Apple is the cohesion of great software and great hardware. I'm sure you'd love to run OS X on a dell, but not me. their hardware streamlines the experience in a magical way. - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>> totally. imagine if both apple and microsoft collaborated on a project.
>>Apple tried collaborating with MS once, a long time ago. It didn't work out too well.

Exactly. Glad someone got that. :^) - 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> mrfx wrote: "what ***** thunder ....this is stupid or the storm must be too far away!"
Although I suspect that mrfx is trolling (if I'm wrong about that then I humbly apologize), in essence what he/she writes is correct. Apple really tried to downplay advance word on this "event." It was the press that whipped the whole thing into a frenzy. - Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If their secret weapon is the Origami, it will fail. Why? Because there have been identical products on the market for years. See the OQO Model 01+ for example. It is a handtop Windows XP machine with tablet functionality:
http://www.oqo.com/hardware/basics/ - yllabianbitpipe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So... let's look at the origami objectively, for all I can tell it's just a PDA turned on its side. Whatever.
- mutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think that orogami website was made in powerpoint and then exported to flash :)
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2>Either way Origami is a stupid name for a handheld.
Lots 'o people said the same thing about "iPod" - look how stupid they look now. - fohat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just stole my own thunder.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks pretty slick to me. But I'm trying to figure out, what's the real difference between a tablet-pc/laptop hybrid available from dell/gateway?
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1> totally. imagine if both apple and microsoft collaborated on a project.
Apple tried collaborating with MS once, a long time ago. It didn't work out too well. Apple got burned pretty bad. - danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Digg, before Digg I thought there was no such thing as a MS fanboy. I always thought people just used MS because that is what there company gave them, I never knew people actually liked their software. Digg is very educational!
- FilCab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^
sorry... bad interpretation... :( - Tachonium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While MS definitely won't be stealing Apple's thunder, I do hope they do come out with some cool products sometime soon. Competition only benefits the consumer.
- coolbru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Origami seems an appropriate name for a Microsoft product, after all, they're only really bothered about the folding stuff.
- ldenman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0seems like the thing microsoft would do...
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not too curious about Microsoft's announcement largely due to the fact that all of those stories about origami have been pouring into the Queue. It doesn't make me ask "gee.. I wonder what they're going to announce" whereas with Apple I have no freakin clue it could be anything considering past announcements.
- Kyderdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>When's the last time Microsoft stole Apple's thunder circa 1997?
You mean when Microsoft had to pay for stealing Quicktime code for 150 million of non-voting shares of stock? - beta1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No ones really cares about anything MS does, because there are people that like to keep up with all tech we hear about them but there will never be a company that creates as much hype as apple does rite now.
- Zargon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft is nervous! Gotta love the tension :)
- Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the origami seems more in competition with something like the Sony PSP in my opinion. Its to big to be battling with something as small as an ipod.
- lazyguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I would kinda want quickboot/batteryconsumptionlow media mode.
