- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -9/+82Anyone else find Microsoft using leet speak like "not for noobs" is a bit like listening to a suburban, middle-aged white guy trying to be ghetto yo?
- waytoorandomx, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36Dang that mouse looks hot. It's going to replace my 'basic Microsoft mouse'. Then again, I shouldn't be mocking MS, if there's one thing they're good at, it's making mouses. The partnership with Razer can only mean good, I hope. Then again, I find laser too sensitive, but I'll have to get used to it...
- falgon, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33Technically, the plural for a computer mouse --is-- mouses. Mice is only for the animal.
;) - Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Not to mention, that every wireless mouse that I've purchased from Microsoft, has had outstanding battery life. The reason that I even notice this is because the battery life on the Logitech's just sucks. Am I one of the few that actually like Microsoft branded hardware? I'm typing this on one of their natural keyboards as we speak...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25Wow, good thing "OBKenobi" has replied in the first thread of replies with a dupe comment. Maybe his comment will be modded up? Oh wait, dupe comments NEVER get modded up as they clutter the damn page. Also, way to reply to the posts above you in that thread in a way that doesn't make sense at all!
Get it through your heads. No. One. Gives. A. *****. About. Dupes. - Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@hypnotizd
This is basically a microsoft mouse with the innards and some design aspects of the copperhead. This mouse is made by razer, which most certainly does touche the logitech. Please think things through before bashing microsoft. - dachicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17http://www.razerzone.com/Products/Gaming-Mice/Microsoft-Habu-Gaming-Mouse/
- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20i don't know, of coarse i'll have to get one of these things in my hand first, but the logitech G5 will be one tuff nut for microsoft to crack...
- iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Except logitech's dirvers suck, especially the bluetooth stack for the mx5000 - wow what a piece of *****, I use it w/o installing setpoint and all is well, if i install setpoint, my stability goes to hell in a handbasket, mouse isn't as responsive, lock ups and so on.
- trc0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"It's still not very ergonomic."
how can you tell? have you had one in your hand recently? - Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It appears that betanews might be down. Sorry. Try:
http://www.notfornoobs.com/ - Phoenixus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I got the logitech G5 this past year for Christmas....best mouse I've ever owned. IMO Microsoft should have tried to get a partnership with logitech, but hey, at least their trying.
- Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yeah, my thoughts exactly regarding Razer. Razer really knows what they're doing and that is quite a slick looking mouse. It also has 7 programmable buttons...which is sweet.
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Thanks for letting us know, since I'm sure you've been testing it thoroughly and all. Seems similar to the Copperhead which is very ergonomic.
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12What the hell are you talking about? Microsoft have never actively competed in PC hardware. This is basically just another peripheral to complete the Vista experience and style. This mouse is actually better than a G5. Wireless is still mostly a preference.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@ jinexile
There's nothing similar about those two things at all. People don't know what "Irony" means because they didn't pay attention in middle school english and learned their definition of the term from Alanis Morissette.
There's nothing socially acceptable about thinking Irony is "a free ride, when you've already paid." That's just ignorance. - ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Anyone bashing wireless mice ever USED the G7? Battery swaps are instantaneous, never had connection problems, only complaints are the lack of a forward button and the stupid glossy finish on the mouse.
Ever think that gaming might be easier when not tethered down? Its not like gaming and wireless are incompatible (cough, laptops, Wavebird, Xbox360 controllers, etc...)
Ive used both G5 and G7, and other than the nicer finish on the G5 as well as not needing to change batteries once in a blue moon, theyre equally good.
As for logitech drivers sucking, thats why you dont install the logitech setpoint crap :) DPI adjustment works FINE without it; all you lose is side-scrolling, and 2 additional DPI settings. - scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10They diden't devlop anything. All they did was partner with Razer and use the copperhead hardware and use a Microsoft case.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7did anyone else just totally skip over the gigantic block of text above?
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5this is the page btw
http://www.notfornoobs.com/Microsoft-Habu-Gaming-Mouse.htm
looks really slick imo. It will go real nice with my Saitek Eclipse. - JimV, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I got a wireless Intellimouse after Thanksgiving last year for $20 bucks on sale...best $20 I ever spent. At least Microsoft knows how to make mice.
@Faglon
I mean "mouses". - ru5h1n, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Microsoft using 1337 speak is a brilliant advertising strategy. Think about it: Apple advertises by trying to convince people that their computers are super-out-of-the-box-user-friendly. Microsoft, having not much else to do if keeling over isn't an option, obviously spins it a step further and pretty much declares, "Noob, get a Mac."
As per the ad campaign, I would be much more happy if for all this hype they came out with something more than a mouse, maybe a line of gaming devices. But just a lonely mouse? Much ado about nothing, IMHO. - sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9All this mouse is, is a Razer mouse with a damn Microsoft logo on it. Nothing special here, however who knows what is to come from this partnership. Hopefully not more razer gear with MS logo on it.
Its dissapointing because this mouse is basically the Copperhead Razer but has bit richer blue color light then the Tempest blue Copperhead. http://www.razerzone.com/Products/Gaming-Mice/Razer-Copperhead-Gaming-Mouse/
This launch was hyped because razer is putting the MS name and modifying a current mouse just a bit? I wonder what the price will be.
This also makes me think Razer was on there way to failure and looked at MS for a partnership to stay alive. Seems plausible due to many gamers having failing copperheads. Hell there are forums dedicated on just how to fix your non working Razer mice. - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If there is one thing Microsoft doing hardware is good for is keeping the prices of Logitech stuff down. I got the G5 mouse for $39.95. Without Microsoft in this market, then Logitech would own the market and keep prices high. I mean, what other mouse are you going to buy, Dynex, Kengsington, BenQ some other OEM Tawain company?
- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And everyone says Razer mice suck although when they the exact same hardware is in a case that says Microsoft people jump on it. I have a Razer copperhead which is the exact same thing has this mouse except the case is different obviously and its great. I highly recommend it.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The mighty mouse is a hybird between a two button mouse and a seesaw, you cannot press both buttons at once. That may not be a big deal but it effects the feel of the buttons and makes it a very unusual clicking experience.
I dislike the Mighty Mouse, I am glad Logitech made the MX510 series mice to be Mac ready. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42k dpi makes a huge difference in accuracy/precision and I'm sure they've thrown in a few of the standard features of the copperhead and maybe a few more goodies.
Bottom line: This is for gaming. If you are not a gamer, do not buy it.
optical mice are just like ball mice. left click fires, ight click alt fires, mouse wheel switches weapons so how complicated can it get and why should i shell out who knows how much to buy one?
Might as well stick to your rotary phones and 9600 baud rate modems while you're at it. - Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's not for you, it's for the noobs really. At least, it's for the casual gamers. I suspect it will be encouraged to be used as a default mouse by vendors and be sold at a budget price compared to the copperhead.
- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4....well if you use your mouse upside-down, there is no help for you.
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Paying 70 bucks for a mouse sounds pretty noobish to me.=)
- smotheredinhugs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4still rocking my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0...best ever.
- rushiku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The Copperhead has on-the-fly, in-game, adjustment. Nothing to wait for here unless you just have to have a mouse that has 'Microsoft' printed on it.
I think this is great though because it will finally get Razer the recognition they deserve for being a forward thinking game peripheral company. (okay, the Boomslang had it's problems, but still rocked...when it worked) - SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They will have to pry my Logitech G7 from my cold, dead hands :)
- digitaldivider, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7almost all my peripherals are by logitech. I own a G5, G15, logitech speakers, and a logitech joystick. on the other hand, I tried a microsoft wireless keyboard mouse kit I got last christmas and it was very unsatisfactory. supposedly microsoft's mice and keyboards are good, but I've yet to see it..
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The idiocy in digg is even more apparant when people can't tell the difference between a mouse and a PC. Jesus christ.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's a pretty sexy looking mouse.
I like my G5 though. - Whitey04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My G7:
1) As light as any mouse I've used.
2) Rechargeable hot swap batteries. No problems here.
3) No connection button.
4) Battery charger and USB port (if you don't plug the reciever into it). Good reception, place it anywhere. - BlakeEM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have a wired logictech G5 and it's better than my friends razor. The thing is I didn't need drivers for it at all, the DPI change is hardware as opposed to needing a driver/program in the background to change DPI with the razor. Logitech does make some very good products if you know what ones to look for. The logitech ultraX keyboard is the best keyboard I ever owned. I don't care much for wireless unless it's a media PC, for gaming I just can't see it.
- ucg1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Gregd
I used a Microsoft Natural Pro Keyboard (the one that was discontinued and the only one that isn't missing keys or has weird key arangements) for over a year only to realize how much better a standard keyboard was. So I switched back to a standard keyboard (and eventually got a buckling spring keyboard which are the best IMO) and found I was much faster on it. I think split/angled keyboards in general are not very good, but the Microsoft one had very cheap keys that didn't feel very good and their newer models are even worse. That's probably just a general trend in keyboards in general. Fortunately there is one company that still makes "buckling spring" keyboards: http://www.pckeyboard.com/
I've had similar experiences with Microsoft mice, where I used them for a very long time only to realize competitors' products (Logitech) were much better. - K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I use a 19 dollar 'Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000' and it is the absolute best mouse I've ever used when it comes to gaming, not to mention it feels great in your hands and not to mention I've had it for 4 months now and haven't changed the battery once!
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9RyeBrye: "Wireless gaming mouse = ultimate poser toy. "
Well, no ***** Sherlock. Good thing this IS NOT a wireless mouse. MS is smart enough now to realize Wireless mice are pure *****. It's a silly passing phase, like brush-guards on SUV's. Remember that fad?
I do agree that MS is going to have to put together a pretty amazing mouse to get me to put down my Logitech MX500. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A right hand only mouse? Lame! Left handers need mice too! I'm burying this because I feel discriminated against.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3because rumor has it this one gets the laides
- xcheats, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Everyone complains about having wireless mice for gaming and honestly. I've been using my Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 for years and never had a problem with it. It's never lost connection and I think I've only gone through three sets of batteries over 2 1/2 years.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3hey, that would be great if you could write a review about it in the comments of a microsoft aritcle
aw crap, too late - WarezAppz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Honestly I have a problem with both Microsoft and Logitech. I work in IT - have a Bs in CIS and am also an avid gamer. Needless to say i have several PCs at work and several at home. I use a MX1000 on my gaming system - whereas I like the mouse itself - the software Logitech provides is less than desirable. the battery life of my MX1000 is exceptional IMHO. I've also used a IntelliExplorer wireless for gaming - until I had purchased the MX1000 I thought it rocked. The real noticeable difference between the two is recharge capabilities - extra buttons - and the damn thing not breaking after a moth or so of use. Microsoft needs to learn the term durability when making hardware - hopefully their collaboration with Razor will teach them just that. Logitech on the other hand needs to learn the terms 'Seemless compatibility' with regards to the MX1000 - the extra buttons are nice - however it is a damn shame that you can not make the extra buttons 'generic button' so that they list for the less sophisticated games as Button 6; Button 7; Button 8 etc. Also it'd be nice if Logitech made Profiles for the MX1000 so that you weren't forced to map a mouse button to a specific function/keypress or revert to defaults. I am fully aware that the MX1000 was not designed specifically for gaming - however, in my experience in MMO's many people use it for just that.
They both need some improvement - maybe with a little luck the newly elevated competition that Microsoft/Razor will be taunting with will increase their (Microsoft/Logitech) awareness to customers needs/desires. - tvidas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Right on. I am still holding out with the v3...the v4 tilt wheel was a neat concept, but it just doesn't pan out. I'm stoked about the re-introduction to the v3..
- Trixrox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I do not know what is wrong with wireless mice either...I use a Logitech G7 and am a heavy gamer. I play F.E.A.R. (undefeated btw, but no one will believe that), UT2004, Battlefield 2, Battlefront 2, and Prey and have had no problems.
I guess I should say I had one problem with this wireless mouse, under heavy network load over my 802.11g connection, it stuttered, so I switched channels on the router and now it works fine under load. Oh and Logitech's drivers SUCK. That has nothing to do with wireless but their drivers SUCK. They cause a slowdown in F.E.A.R. on x64 and a slowdown on 32bit XP with the logitech g15 software.
http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=general_gaming&message.id=32 - jameshales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Microsoft mice and keyboards are excellent. If they're trying to make a "gaming mouse" then it will probably be very good. The main reason I like Microsoft hardware is that it looks very nice; Microsoft hardware has a nice style to it, compared to some other manufacturers who make clumsy-looking or wierd devices.
- waytoorandomx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Good points there sp4rky.
Buy yes, the Saitek Eclipse II, perfect combo right there. -
