- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, though their capacity is much lower than Intel, AMD's yield (the percentage of chips that actually work per wafer) is among the best in the industry. Intel has so many fabs that if 25% of their output is garbage, they can afford to chuck it and still meet demand. AMD doesn't have that luxury, so they make the most of their wafers.
That's also the reason that they don't put unnecessarily large cache on their chips. Intel does it because they can, even though the performance gains from all that cache are minimal. - jman8888, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now that just made Xserves More tempting
- dataloss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3HP has had opteron-based servers and blades for quite some time. I have a few myself.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I wish AMD all the luck in the world meeting Dell's demand with their lousy yield and capacity. Dell is like the 800 lb gorilla as a customer, they will squeeze your nuts until they fall off or they get what they want, including prices so low that your margin all but evaporates.
