- devo4343, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is there no video I would love to see that thing run It looks cool though
- au071, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old news and I will hardly call that running...
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I for one welcome our new robot masters.
- audioobsessed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Booooooo this story was already on digg a couple days ago besides the korean one can only run at about a fifth the speed of japan's aismo
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Honda, the Tokyo-headquartered firm famous for its leading-edge motorcycles, is estimated to have poured $300 million in the past two decades for the ASIMO walker.
By contrast, a domestic team headed by Prof. Oh Jun-ho at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology created a prototype bipedal worker in 2002 with three students and a budget of $80,000."
that's too funny - crpietschmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No Digg! There isn't a video!
- CoffeeCup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ya I would call that jogging... or maybe running faster than in place.
- EricBoyers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is no match for Jet Jaguar!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bleh, I don't want a running robot, or a hopping robot... a robot with wheels or tracks is good enough.
- jjallday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Watch out Sarah Connor!
- SCscoutguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Come on Rick Hunter and the SDF-1 had fighter jets that could turn into robots like 20 years ago. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This whole running robot thing is very disconcerting. I don't know if people realize the ramifications of this dangerous advancement. See explanation here:
http://greedoneverfired.blogspot.com/2005/12/robots-are-coming-robots-are-coming.html - BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yawn all you want but this is good progress. It might be 1/5 of ASIMO but it is what, a fraction of a percent of what Honda spent?
The more people make these breakthroughs the sooner we will have some use for robots. - prkchpsndwiches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Overall a neat post. The site should have thrown up a video!
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Korean Project = $80,000
Japan' Honda Asimo = $300 Million
You get what you pay for
The definition of running for a robot is to ensure that requires an instant in its mobility to have both feet off the ground at the same time. The Honda actually runs while the Korean Robot Jerks forward. Not quite natural - zoltan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0heres the video of asimo running http://world.honda.com/HDTV/ASIMO/200412-run/
- HebrewHammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0together, we shall rise against the machines which have enslaved us!
- UnKnownViper27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No video = No digg
- wsucougz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0human cloning, robots that "run," I'm betting Korean scientists lock down cold fusion within a week.
- jeremie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are these related?
http://www.plyojump.com/korea.html
http://ohzlab.kaist.ac.kr/ - alky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The article is a bit misleading about the price of the robot. It compares the 80 000 for the HUBO prototype with the 300 million (over the past two decades) for ASIMO.
Two paragraphs later it says "Robotis also channeled some $1 million to complete the running robot RX in a year through a joint project with Samsung Electronics, sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Communication."
1 million is a lot more than 80 thousand. - akifbayram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That doesnt look like legos to me...
- captn_howdy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All this money being spent on such worthless projects, they could be using their money on something useful, like a robot sex slave, Bladerunner yo :P
- LucasOman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0andrewlevy: The definition of "running" is that there exists periods where both feet are off of the ground at the same time. This is truly an engineering milestone, and as the technology is improved, they will be able to scale it to greater size and speed.
BUT I wouldn't worry about all that. Most likely, this will be exposed as a hoax to the shame of SK ;-) - michael.calfee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahhh .. I was expecting T1000 running ... not cute toy running
- edzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now they should make it drive a car and do our laundry and clean our houses
- andrewlevy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you guys kidding me??? Did you read the text? It says "...can run roughly 500 meters an hour ..." Do you guys realize how slow that is? That is equal to about 0.311 miles per hour - the average human WALKS about 2.8 miles per hour...
"running" give me a break - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I welcome our robotic Asian overlords.
- exis73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No video? I wonder if these guys did all that stem cell research too!
- rmdl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Since when did South Korea get technology beyond that of an NES?
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Yawn, already accomplished.
