- TerrorByteX, on 02/06/2008, -3/+92Who really cares? Gizmodo just needs a story, and Iron Man is still kickass.
- borneo66, on 02/06/2008, -1/+70As someone who actually maintains a renderfarm, please allow me to inform you that Dell's corporate discounts are so insanely generous that they cause the servers to easily cost less than the cost in both parts and labor to assemble your own servers.
- MattiX, on 02/06/2008, -5/+64Nice to see something other then an apple advertisement in a movie for once.
- yaosio, on 02/06/2008, -6/+53A PS3 farm? He wants to store data and process it, not be bored out of his mind while he waits for a good game to come out for the PS3.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -4/+47Dude, you got an Iron Man Suit.
- codehkr77, on 02/06/2008, -2/+41Product placement?
- PleaseJustDie, on 02/06/2008, -1/+38Yes, yes because Tony Stark got rich by throwing away money where he didn't have to...
- jezsik, on 02/06/2008, -0/+37All the serious hardware tinkerers I've known have made the most out of the least.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -2/+31Hope he doesn't have to call Dell tech support for his suit.
- androo002345, on 02/06/2008, -5/+31Iron Man Sucks. Down with the Superhuman Registration Act!!!
I still dugg this because the movie will probably be awesome. So what he doesn't have super computers. It's called product placement, folks. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+21I'm digging this only because this movie looks much better than Speed Racer.
- camaroz06, on 02/06/2008, -0/+17Actually those servers are just to store and distribute Tony Stark's homemade pornos.
- Albear89, on 02/06/2008, -3/+14I was impressed with the trailor, but I'm also impressed by flashing lights and food.
- Primatelord, on 02/06/2008, -1/+11Tony Stark, on top of being a genius inventor, is one of the shrewdest businessmen in the world. He knows how to save money, so if he can save a few thousand dollars by buying dozens of cheap-ass Dell servers to do the computing rather than inventing his own computers, then he'll use that. He's not a multi-billionaire for no reason. In fact, he probably tinkered with them and made them better (read: useable).
- tito13kfm, on 02/06/2008, -1/+11"None of our dozen servers have never had a single problem over the past 6 years."
So they have all had problems? Your double negative isn't not incomprehensible - kingmanic, on 02/06/2008, -0/+10Note: Google use a lot of off the shelf Dell servers for various purposes. It's not the hardware your given but how you use it that counts. Why not buy cheap commodity hardware?
- Delphium226, on 02/06/2008, -2/+11Give me the Vic20 cluster any day. Anyone who needs more than 2.5KB ram needs to give themselves a serious talking to.
- slantyeyed, on 02/06/2008, -0/+9But the X-men mansion had Sh'iar technology.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -2/+9I've flushed stuff that's look better then Speed Racer.
- SammyJr, on 02/06/2008, -0/+7Servers != consumer desktops. The concerns that apply to your crappy Dell Dimension don't apply to people who buy servers and need 24x7 hardware support for mission critical applications. No one is going to put a non-Dell approved PSU in their $5000 Dell server, anyway.
- DrDabbles, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6Hi. This is 1996 calling. You don't have to be bitter anymore. Oh, and all the "big name" server manufacturers do the same thing.
- naonao, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6What's more surprising is the fact you've all seemed to neglect the naked hot chick in a man's shirt.
- hockey, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6He's probably one of those guys who wanted "depth" in Transformers too.
- norman619, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6Professional? We are talking about superhero movies. You are aware of this right?
- Tiak, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6...Unless you exclusively mean Batman Begins. you're delusional...
You just called Catwoman and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen "professional"... Not to mention the earlier Batman films, like "Batman and Robin" (seriously, that film is more *****-erotic than Brokeback...)
Superman Returns was mediocre at best... - bigfatdummy, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5I've never had a single issue with Dell. Replacement arrive the next day at the latest and even the desktops we have are a perfect fit.
- Unlgued, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5Man, I just know they're going to ***** this up. I'm just cringing to find out what part of my childhood Hollywood'll strip off me this time around.
Obligatory watery love story? Likely. Pointlessly para-filmed "lite version" of Iron man's history? Possibly. Are they going to see how many comic book synopses they can blur through in two-and-a-half hours of budget-bleeding condensed nonsense, loosely sandwiched between product placements and last year's pop references? Yeah, I'm sure they are. - kgool, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5Just getting the Dell name plate out there is what matters, not what is behind it. Flash over substance.
- xelloss, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5Stargate has used Dell laptops at least for years, PS3 in Heroes, More Dells in Terminator TV series (also with 1337) address on the door. Though now I see it more and more its becoming more noticeable (maybe thats why I bought a dell laptop), But i still think its better then using fake brands like when they take the S off Sony Tvs and the TVs magically become ONY.
- redfox2600, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5Although I doubt that a CTO would be that idiotic to buy servers from Dell just because he saw them in a movie.
*redfox looks up at his CTO*
nevermind - mutt, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4I'm confused, are you being critical about their use of "last years" Dell products
or
Are you bragging that you know Dell's entry level server lineup inside and out? - Tiak, on 02/06/2008, -2/+6Maybe he needs that little server farm there just to efficiently communicate with his building-sized supercomputer and data farm elsewhere?...
Or maybe that's a scene while he's imprisoned by the forces of evil?... One can always hope that it is whoever the hell the evil force that captured him and had him create a weapon in this iteration that runs Dell... - Nesh, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Man, the product placement in Heroes was crazy. Sony PS3, Apple products all over the place (several iPods, iMacs, and MacBooks), everyone wearing Converse shoes, every car was a GM. I love the show, but it got a little distracting. My Friends and I made a product placement drinking game for watching heroes.
- DrDabbles, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Agreed. Also, now that I actually HAVE the proper number for my Gold Support contract, I'm quite happy.
- majortom1981, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Come on dells consumer desktops might stink but their servers are insanely good. Combine that with gold support and its hard to beat them. I have never seen at all my jobs a dell server go down due to bad hardware. We have 4 proc 400mhz dell servers from about 10 years ago atleast that are still running without any problems. So dont bash dells servers. I also agree with the insanse corporate discounts.
- sgtpppr, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4PS3 owners with no sense of humor comments incoming!!
- DarkDx, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4But, do you know how a pussy looks?
- bjs3171, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4it's not really that blatant in that shot. it's in the background. i can't even read the logo without the blown up image.
- Exekutor, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3Actually, they've already did what they wanted. A post on gizmodo and a front page of digg. That's quite advertisement you've got here.
- markperia, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3It only gets distracting if you keep thinking about it. Instead of thinking about the products why not think about the plot?
- Ratteler, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3You didn't see the fine print. In the Marvel Universe Stark is Dell!!! All those little emblems say "STARK" and the "STARK" guy, who is known for saying "Sweet! I'm gettin' a STARK!" is in celebrity re-hab.
- BOFH2, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3Unless you enjoy voiding the warranty, looking at schematics, soldering and swearing when it does not work. :)
- BOFH2, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3superman returns was horrible. Not even close to mediocre
- bjs3171, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3why wasn't one of the choices for that survey "jesus christ, shut up."?
- greenamp, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3I'm getting that feeling too. I think it amount to a flashy sell out type of movie with story plot in between product placement.
- sgtpppr, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3That is the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. I was going to try and provide a rebuttal, but I'm not even going to bother. Scary.
- PRlME, on 02/06/2008, -1/+4I want your mother giving me head and tickling my balls with her toes as my wall paper
- kingmanic, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3"I don't see the typical consumer buying Dell servers (discounting PCs of course) and corporate decision makers aren't going to be influenced by a movie."
Only difference between some guy in a movie theater and a corporate IT decision maker is the guy in the theater might know something about computers while the corporate IT decision maker is guaranteed to know nothing. - hockey, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3And the Sh'iar probably used Dell too.
