i can't speak for this specific board but generally intel's motherboards have had very high build quality and great stability - MaxwellTD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Flame shaped heat sinks, thats an oxymoron.
Looks nice, and its good to see they are going to support overclocking.
Probably great quality and supports quad core.
P.S. clippydiper, stop being such an ASUS fanboy.
P.S.S. I currently have my opteron 165 from 1.8 GHz to 2.8 on stock air cooling, Prime stable. - echeese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I the only person reminded of Samuel L. Jackson's wallet by the title?

- sp00nz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They demoed a version of this board at Quakecon this year. Got the xtreme 6800 up to 4ghz with stock cooling. Pretty sweet board imho.
- Clearz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Intel have come to realise that it is the overclocking community that drives the CPU industry. They used to think that marketing alone was enough. And I have to say that 'Intel Inside' was one of the best marketing slogans I have ever heard. Thing is that enthusiasts have known for many years that AMD where comming out with better chips and in the last year or two the popularity of AMD started to spill over into the mainstream with regular users starting to go AMD. This isn't too surprising, after all its us (and I'm sure there is more than a few of 'us' here on digg) that relations, friends, bosses etc come for advice on what computer to buy. What do we tell them? We tell them the truth, that AMD WAS the better chip and I say WAS because Intel stood back and took a look and realised that if they want to dominate the market they need to win over the hardcore users in order to win over the masses. So they come out with the Core2 Duo, and what a beauty she is.
I have an E6600 here overclocked from 2.4Ghz to 3Ghz on the cooler that comes with it and once I buy a better cooler I think I'll get it upto 3.6Ghz. Now when people come and ask my advice I tell them to go Intel.
The moral of the story is: Take care of the hardcore enthusiasts and they will take care of the rest of the marketing for you. - mitrovarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why do they keep sticking 8 SATA ports on these things while only including 1 PATA port? Who the hell is going to attach 8 drives to one of these? But all kinds of people have legacy PATA hard drives and DVD burners they still want to use, so another PATA port would be well appreciated. Well, unless it's one of those ones that uses the JMB361 chip and can't handle Linux or optical drives.
- sethkinast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You're not a grammar Nazi, just uneducated. It's a difference in American English vs. the Queen's English. Americans refer to a company as a singular entity, whereas people from the UK and Australia talk about Intel as composed of the people inside the company, making Intel a plural word.
- rumor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2uh his wallet says "Bad *****" not bad ass *****.
jeez - JTForce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Agreed, unless you cant separate yourself from your serial modem or dot matrix printer.
- pengu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wake me up when it has EFI and firewire800, and loses the useless legacy ports.
- Ramtech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can't wait for Christmas... or.. maybe i should wait?
- KragTheDigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have to be honest... I see the flame sinks, and forget to check out everything else about this mobo... I think that's a Bad Thing (tm).
- clippydiper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0OK. What we do now is pressing slowly the power key off and then slowly back on in the morning. We prime this every morning and one of those electrolytic capacitors may pop.
- OddTSi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0...Intel *IS* actually starting... "Is", not "are."
What's with this trend where people are referring to a group/collective in the plural sense? Not to be a grammar Nazi but that particular mistake is becoming prevalent enough to become a pet peeve of mine. - pengu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0PATA is only there for optical drives. i bet you're trying to plug your DIN keyboard in too, arent you?
- obeseotron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This motherboard is what, a 6 month old refresh of a year old board? Old news. What is this doing on the front page?
- ivachen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I have the Bad Axe.
It only support overclocking of the "Extreme" line CPUs out of the box. If you need to overclock your beloved E6400 you will have have to perform a very simple hack, while voiding your warranty immidiately.
It's a rock solid board I may add, however it's overclock ability is limited. - kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1you gotta wait for vista!!!
haha - toast1226, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1yay for intellinkuals
- clippydiper, on 10/12/2007, -19/+0Not a moon walk in the park, this board looks very cheap compared to ASUS boards.
A number of discreet components, silver and not a gold plating do not look as good as ASUS clean lines. Blue thingies on a peripheral looking like fire flame - are these heatsinks?
