- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28poor amd is getting owned up the ass.
- bebop717, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Only a matter of time before we hit "The Ocho"
- evilNomad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Uh?
"Core 2" is the name of the core, Duo or Quadro is the amount of cores, what exactly is it that you cannot comprehend? - Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Well, it beats calling it the Pentium V.
- Wyattx17, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16It's a swinging pendulum my friend. Just like everything else in the world.
- johnthedebs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13At least razor blades don't increase by factors of two.
And these actually give you more performance. - bewarethejubjub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Digg better be careful as this sort of crap is really starting to piss off users. What the hell is the point of ever submitting anything if you don't stand a chance of anyone seeing it because only the selected few can get anything promoted on the front?

***** Everything, We're Doing Five Blades
By James M. Kilts
CEO and President,
The Gillette Company
"Would someone tell me how this happened? We were the ***** vanguard of shaving in this country. The Gillette Mach3 was the razor to own. Then the other guy came out with a three-blade razor. Were we scared? Hell, no. Because we hit back with a little thing called the Mach3Turbo. That's three blades and an aloe strip. For moisture. But you know what happened next? Shut up, I'm telling you what happened—the bastards went to four blades. Now we're standing around with our ***** in our hands, selling three blades and a strip. Moisture or no, suddenly we're the chumps. Well, ***** it. We're going to five blades." - bryguy000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"Now with eight cores!" - says the television razer guy.
- RegisPhilbin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16The next time someone tells you Digg isn't rigged, explain why this exact duplicate story from the exact same site, etc., was submitted more than ten hours earlier by fatmike and got exactly two diggs, but this one submitted by some leetizoid makes the front page.
DIGG IS RIGGED.
DIGG IS RIGGED.
DIGG IS RIGGED. - aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11AMD is getting owned now, but only after owning Intel for the past few years. It's about damn time, too. For a while I felt pretty ripped off by my P4.
Someone makes a big leap, the competition has to catch up. Once galvanized against an actual market threat, the competitors come up with something better and the cycle starts again. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10You gotta love Intel...
http://virtualmagic.blogspot.com/2006/08/pentium.html - wjadams, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's our best chip yet...
the Core 2 Fusion
Now with 5 cores and 1 on the back for hard to reach places! - somnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The solution is simple: Make friends with everyone except those select few, then digg all of those people's "dupe" stories.
Yay! - RegisPhilbin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey, tidu. Where is the lie in making a statement of fact that can be confirmed by anyone who can type QUADRO into the Digg search box? The bottom line is that fatmike submitted the exact same URL over ten hours before this 1337 Royal Digger here. So not only are you getting your content late, but it violates the duplicate URL obstacle that us ordinary mortals have to go through. And if you think that there is no prize to the Digg front page you're as myopic as you are naive. Ever heard of Adwords? Ever heard of the Digg Effect? Getting 1000 Diggs can equal 100,000 or more hits on a site and that translates into cold hard cash. And lots of it. This isn't social networking. It's a rigged casino to make money for the specially "blessed." Wake up and realize it.
- somnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I read an article from Anandtech about how they dropped in a pair of Clovertown processors into a Mac Pro, and how dropping in a pair of Core 2 Quadros would be possible as well. For about one second I was upset about how slow my new Mac Pro would be compared to this setup, and how it was already outdated and I hadn't even received it. Then I realized I was an idiot/techwhore because the 2 x 2 cores was ***** crazy less than a year ago.
- CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7really rolls off the toungue, that does.
- somnus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow, please read that again.
For those who can't read between the lines (that means "stupid"):
-New processors are crazy fast, and not available in Mac Pros.
-Me: "Aw, damn. my computer is slow now, and it just came out! I don't even have it yet! =("
-Me, upon realizing the idiocy of my own internal comment: "Oh wait, my computer will be just as fast as it was before I heard about this, and that's damn fast! Yay!"
Dear God, man. I hope you aren't in charge of anything important. - kraemer007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Are you guys even reading the article? Its NOT a quad core processor! Its a chip package with TWO SEPERATE DUAL CORE CHIPS mounted on it... Get real... This is just a marketing ploy to say "yeah, we came out with quad core first". AMD isnt taking the "fakey" quad core route. When their quad ships it will be a single chip with four cores on it.
- jerfoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does it?
Intel is all over the board with their chip names. It used to be so easy:
268, 386, 486, Pentium, Pentium Pro (exception to the rule), Pentium 2, Pentium 3, Pentium 4...so easy.
Centrino, Pentium D, Pentium M, Pentium VIIV, Core, Core Dou, Core 2 Dou, Core 2 Quadro, Pentium 4 Zeon.... - dustedotnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Core 2 Octo, here we come!
- Raybdbomb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Quattro
- yohan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Ummm... DUH.
- lemcoe9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WHO HOO!!!!! I will buy it
How much? - deepdish, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8boring confusing chip names.
love the chips, hate the names - phydiux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This article is weak. "Aimed at gamers" - Why? Because there are *so many* SMP-based games?
- tzmguitarist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I want the Core 2 Septupleto
- pugfug90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"When their quad ships it will be a single chip with four cores on it."
That exactly describes Kentsfield.. - BinaryJay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What's confusing about the names? Would Pentium 2 Quadro make more sense to you, for a Quad "Pentium" CPU? It's a Quad "Core" CPU.
What's the difference? - pugfug90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/news.php?tid=671374&starttime=0&endtime=0
QX6700 will be coming out in November for $999. Expect Q6600 in Q107 for around ~$550. - pennyfan87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3To quote Weird Al:
what kinda chip you got in there? a dorito? - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One million dollars.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1VIA already nailed that and named it Luke.
http://www.via.com.tw/en/resources/pressroom/2005_archive/pr050308_corefusion-luke.jsp - StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yes but thats in like 2008! And does it really matter? Its going to work the same as a quad die isn't it? Maybe 5% slower but thats about it...
- RegisPhilbin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't worry, WarPirate, I always save enough to pound that little bitch before the show to make sure that she goes on air purring. :)
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Must've got some deal with nVidia to use that.
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2cant wait till the day they come out with 1 chip to replace all 4...
- xevo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think NVIDIA might have a little something to say about this! Can't companies be original anymore?
http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadrofx.html - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I'm with popdmb on this one.
It's basically named "Core 2 4". Just a touch ambiguous. I understand that it's supposed to mean that it's a "4 core, 'Core 2'" processor, but we here at digg are more technical than average. - jakethecake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1More like Q2 2007 - 'Barcelona'.
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34433
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_K8L#_note-6 - ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Can you smell the lawsuit coming.... and no it's not the Digg lawyers this time :)
I mean seriously, who's in charge of the naming department at Intel? - WarPirate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hey Regis, save it for Kelly in the morning!!!
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The Pedro.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0isn't it wrong to call it quadro. from what i learned in math quadratic equations are of degree two and quartic are degree 4. quatro (or quattro) seems more correct to me.
- rafk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i digg the name (no pun intended).
- clyde2801, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3so wait a year or two, and drop in a pair of quadros. geez, what are you bitching about???
- Salmonized, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0then again it could've been "DuQuad"
- Raybdbomb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1quote: xevo
"I think NVIDIA might have a little something to say about this! Can't companies be original anymore?
http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadrofx.html"
Exactly what I was thinking. - chrisinsocalif, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1We will have to see, because Intels quad core isn't true quad core, where as the K8L has ht links to communicate to all the cores. This could be a problem. The 65 nm quad core K8L will be previewed at the end of the year. It's expected to close the performance gap, maybe even surpass Intel. I wouldn't say AMD is getting "owned" just yet.
