- prasithg, on 03/03/2009, -1/+12Yup the only thing really holding this back is that WiMax is still in flux. If Intel can get WiMax adoption then with TSMC's SOC designs this would be a killer combo. Imagine an iPod Touch with 4 times the processing power and WiMax in it. It would basically kill 10 different devices in one fell swoop.
- MarkusX, on 03/03/2009, -1/+10Seems like a vital step for Intel to stay on top of the game and at the same time it makes Atom a major success beyond its current hype.
- ilikeeggs8877, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5im going to have to go with...no
- RadiantSilver, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Pentium 90MHz and OS/2 Warp FTW
- p3ngwin, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4@ Soogy: agreed.
as soon as virualisation for mobiles becomes practical, the need for x86 chips to run x86 apps will become irrelevant and chip architectures and OS's of all flavors will become even more competitive. - Jeffholio, on 03/04/2009, -2/+5Did anyone else see the healine and think it says "CCCP declares war"?
- soogy, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4iPod Touch uses an ARM processor. This is Atom. In theory, a multi-core ARM Cortex-R4 or Cortex-A9 will, clock-for-clock, destroy an Atom in both processing power and have significantly lower power consumption. It's just that it's ARM, and the general public would much rather be running Windows on UMPCs than anything else.
I myself prefer Atom for its x86 versatility, but ARM processors are not as weak as people think they are.
P.S.: The iPod Touch sucks. - inactive, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2may be.. may be not..
wait... wtf - Kwipper, on 03/04/2009, -1/+3YAY! COMPETITION! This means lower prices for all! I LIKE COMPETITION!!!
- TheMachine1, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2When I read about the deal my first thought was manufactures must be demanding two independent sources for CPUs like IBM did with Intel and AMD in the past.
- scoot2006, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1Yep. I freaked out a little until I read it closer. That wouldn't be good for anyone.
- ethana2, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1I'm still waiting for the complete rewrite of the x86 ISA, but they're still adding awesome new features like blazing fast encryption and XML processing accelerating instructions..
- rakeshishere, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1Definitely NO
- CatKnight, on 03/04/2009, -1/+2..........yes.
- PHLAK, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1I have a friend that works for Intel. In the past he has told me that they hold on to a large quantity of their next few generations of processors so when their competition releases a "new" product all they have to do is ship their stock of these "newer" generation CPU's.
- mycoplasma, on 03/04/2009, -3/+3Did anyone else see the headline and think it says "Iran declares war"?
- vinodmeshram, on 03/04/2009, -1/+1Go Baby Go !! :)
- spiffza, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0India's government is such a coward...I would have laughed if I would have seen that.
- inactive, on 03/06/2009, -2/+2There are good reasons to boycott Intel

Genocide in Gaza cannot go unpunished. Intel is one of the biggest supporters of Israel. Their very first development centre outside the US was opened in Haifa in 1974. Since then they have continued pouring investment in to Israel.[2] By year 2000 they employ over 4000 israelis.
