Wow! What a sweet looking cpu! Great article! I am the cancer that is killing digg! - Surferess, on 11/03/2008, -4/+51Awesome power!
- inactive, on 11/03/2008, -5/+48One might say that this is the Mother of all Boards?
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/03/2008, -0/+35This is a geek thread...if you can't think of ways to use all that power, stay out of the thread.
- BeShirtHappy, on 11/03/2008, -5/+37Some great information for people that build their own computers.
- gravesg, on 11/03/2008, -2/+33Crap, i keep wanting to say Amd has something up their sleeve, but I just can't see it happening, the tables have turned for the worst. Intel's C2D was already a major step from what Amd had available. Now Intel is trying to nail the casket shut. Sometimes you just gotta feel bad for Amd. I can only pray Intel doesn't strong arm the market, and keep prices high.
- Cyberdactyl, on 11/03/2008, -2/+30 84FPS Crysis @ 1900x1200 ultra settings ...insane
- borninda818, on 11/03/2008, -0/+22It had a good run buddy. 6 years is no joke for a socket.
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/03/2008, -0/+21No need to apologize. Just GTFO.
- j3ff86, on 11/03/2008, -1/+20The 1920x1200 Crysis benchmarks are impressive; almost 20 more FPS than a C2Extreme with tri-SLI. Had no idea Crysis was CPU bound at that resolution.
- jerrycan, on 11/03/2008, -1/+20Finally! Something that can RUN crysis with elbow room!
- Ellipsys, on 11/03/2008, -1/+19The Core i7 Extreme is going to release first, at the normal Extreme Edition price of $1000+. Motherboards are in the $300 range currently, for the new socket. By Q1-2 next year, the "mainstream" parts should arrive, which shall be more affordable.
- icexe, on 11/03/2008, -1/+19That's awesome! Now I just have to wait a year for the prices to come down to "wife-acceptable" levels.
- ron7852, on 11/03/2008, -1/+19That you are...
- MeatMountain, on 11/03/2008, -2/+19But can it run Crysis 2?
- Arkz, on 11/03/2008, -0/+12HOW DARE YOU!!! *hugs Brisbane X2 5600* you dare disrespect my little baby!!
- inactive, on 11/03/2008, -4/+16This makes my 680i look weak :(
- inactive, on 11/03/2008, -0/+12Any multimedia production would benefit from this. Games, too. What's wrong with progress, man?
- copypastry, on 11/03/2008, -3/+14But will it run Crys... oh.
- MyNameIsGusto, on 11/03/2008, -1/+12rtfa
- Aadain, on 11/03/2008, -3/+14Intel doesn't want AMD to go anywhere. As long as they are around, Intel has competition and can't be viewed as a monopoly. And don't forget, AMD has shown that they can execute well, so their current troubles are their own fault. I heard a quote a while back that I think sums up AMD perfectly:
AMD, the company that always finds a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. - Ganpachi, on 11/03/2008, -0/+10"I'm gonna hang on to my Q6600 Quad until... [blah blah blah] "
...or two or three years has elapsed and it is time to upgrade anyway, whichever comes first - dan2, on 11/03/2008, -2/+12I lold.
- savagesteve13, on 11/03/2008, -2/+12Darn a new socket. I guess Socket 775 has met its end.
- sockpuppets, on 11/03/2008, -1/+11It's faster and more expensive.
- nmezib, on 11/03/2008, -0/+10hell, it only took one year :P
- mrcaulfield, on 11/03/2008, -3/+12i just might have to build me one of these
: ) - AmyVernon, on 11/03/2008, -1/+10http://instantrimshot.com
- inactive, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8Keep your crap outa Digg!!
- Arkz, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8Macs suck! get a PC you hippie!
- Defiant001, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8I love my X2 6000+
Don't hurt its feelings :( - SchmuckofNI, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8Don't forget to the average user AMD is still a viable option. Intel to this date has not been able to price their quad cores under $150, therefore AMD has the advantage for now.
- YojimboJango, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7I would say you're being a bit optimistic, however every time I go to build a new rig AMD has hit my price/performance point. Enthusiast class is all over Intel and will be for a long time, but for people with a budget AMD still offers more bang for the buck.
Also consider that I built my PC 4 years ago for $600 and have spent about $350 in upgrades over the years and I can play Crysis on low settings. AMD has been very good to me and my wallet. - YojimboJango, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7RIP Intel FanBoys wallets.
- nmezib, on 11/03/2008, -1/+8That's like... over 9000....
- pstroll, on 11/03/2008, -8/+15RIP AMD FanBoys
- natedeezy, on 11/03/2008, -2/+9My P4 2.0 ghz is starting to show it's age!
- dafragsta, on 11/03/2008, -1/+7The rectangular processors look kinda like oldschool Pentium Pros.
- inactive, on 11/03/2008, -0/+6The processor on the GTX280 has 1.4 billion at 65nm.
- Aadain, on 11/03/2008, -0/+6Well, its a new micro-architecture, you shouldn't be too surprised. You were going to have to get a new mobo anyway due to the integrated memory controller, so its a good time to introduce a new socket.
- cmsjustin, on 11/03/2008, -0/+6Virtualization
- lVlyke, on 11/03/2008, -0/+6Now all I need is money and I'll be set.
- borninda818, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5my 680i died on me...I'm pissed!
- nonymous666, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5RTFA. The benchmarks they did involved both a 3.2GHz i7 and a 3.2GHz Core 2 Quad (a QX9770).
- sockpuppets, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5This makes my 530i look larger.
- borninda818, on 11/03/2008, -1/+6AMD has ATI to lean on for a while, but I honestly don't see them coming close to matching Intel anytime soon. I was never a fanboy, but its sad to see a warrior fall.
- emehrkay, on 11/03/2008, -1/+6AMD where are thou? :( I miss you
- inactive, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5[witty rebuttal]
- merlinklein, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5731 Million Transistors.. Is that a record?
Have they put a billion on a single die yet? - xbanned, on 11/03/2008, -0/+5True... until the next generation.
