- Penpal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did anyone actually read the article?
It goes on saying that when doing things like watching DVD's, playing MP3's, and other applications, it was hard to distinguish from a P4, and it's much cheaper. I don't know about you, but for just a home computer, not a gaming machine, an overclocked Celeron D would be perfect. It also suffered a 10-20% drop in performance for videogames, and with a mid-range video card, it can handle all of todays games on medium settings. I think that's pretty good.
Everyone knows that celerons are terrible processors in comparison to everything else.
So just repeating it here is great, guys. Keep doing it. - naples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2next week in tech upgrades: putting a super charger in your 1992 ford tempo.
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, when I read the title, I thought someone had take one of those old Celeron 300's that would overclock to 450 and pushed it to 3.5GHz. Now that would have been impressive.
- gamer31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have to agree with slipdisc on that one im on my family computer and it has a celeron in it running at 2.0 GHz. Its perfectly fine for web surfing and listening to music.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want to play graphically intense game then the Celeron is out.
Not *everyone* plays games. - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The guy built a box that cam play most of todays games on average settings for $340, and is just as fast as a P4 for pretty much everything else. That's nothing to sneeze at.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a celeron M laptop (1.4 GHz, 768MB ram, 512kb cache) that I purchased two years ago. I am impressed by it because I also have a Pentium M (1.73 GHz, 512MB) and it's really hard to tell the difference between the two in terms of performance. I don't play games on these laptops, but just internet, word processing, music, and the celeron M is just a damn good chip. I was curious so I tested Quake 3 on it, and wow, even with the integrated graphics, it was amazing, nothing compared to my desktop, but impressive for a cheap notebook.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my AMD fx does 2.8 and will smoke that *****!
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sempron.

"You can get a better AMD processor for the same price, less, or even a little more."
You don't say! lol Sorry but that sentance made me laugh so much. - p3lEr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice...
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yay now old people can surf the internet at 3.5 Ghz and above!!1
- Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Celerons suck. You can get a better AMD processor for the same price, less, or even a little more. For only like $120 you can get a Athlon 3000+ socket 774 cpu. For less then that you can get a sempron. AMD offers plenty of budget cpus that kick ass and overclock well.
- Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@yogurtslinger you can get a 774 at newegg. Not sure if your 3700 will fit in it. Is it a 774 or a 939? Although I doubt it would be a 774 since most of the mid to high end AMD CPUs are for 939.
- supremechees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old news http://digg.com/hardware/Celeron_1.5_Overclocked_to_4.15Ghz
- yogurtslinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want a socket 774, where do i get one of those??? will my athlon 64 3700+ fit in that?
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeh i thought it was a 336Mhz processor goin to like 3.5Ghz. damn
- Choppy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First of all, who buys a Celeron D and then overclocks it to make it perform better? Those who do purchase it are probably home users who do not know that other chips offer more bang for the buck. Besides, just because it's at 3.5 ghz doesn't it make it much better when you play BF2 or encode videos much better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, AMD low-cost solutions always kicked intel's ass...
- OsirisX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lets think about this logically. They are comparing a 3.6Ghz P4, at $170 against a Celeron D, 3.6 ghz at $70. Less than half the price of the P4. I think it does pretty damn well. And the new E0 revision Celeron D can easily be clocked up to 3.8, even 4Ghz. And prices for this chip have dropped, I found one of these as low as $40 after rebate.
- TheGSRGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0533MHz FSB, but that's still not bad for most stuff.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Celeron M ain't a bad chip, but I wouldn't touch a Celeron D.
- yogurtslinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@abyss *****
"For only like $120 you can get a Athlon 3000+ socket 774 cpu"
that was sarcastic dumbass, socket 774 are for intel cpu's, 754 and 939 are the higher end amd sockets. - Chris_F, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@.5GHz is nothing on a celly D. If you can't get at least 4GHz you aren't even trying.
- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a Cel D,335. Not a big intel fan, but got it so I could play bf2 on the cheap, with a 6600. It works, not the best, but it works. Its right now at 3.3. Of course its not the best, and AI Booster OC software sucks.
- chops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And intel is socket 775 not 774. Congratulations, you're both idiots. :)
- Chris_F, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my first commet got screwed up. It should read:
3.5GHz is nothing on a celly D. If you can't get at least 4GHz you aren't even trying. - dark_helmet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0775 are for intel CPUs
- subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I rock an AMD Opteron 148 currently clocked at 2.9GHz and it will blow that thing out of the water!
- dragonflight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not that impressed...only a little while ago I thought another website managed to clock a lower-rated celeron to the same speed. I still digg though because it was well written and informative.
- Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was just like, "wtf, AMD has no 774 socket."
Interesting read. Digg. - freeyayo50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great Digg! I have a Celeron but i cant overclock it :-(. I have a weak motheboard. People should consider this new option.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How well does it perform, though. I had a Celeron D and I ***** hated it. If you are looking for a cheap, low-end processor, definately go with the AMD Sempron. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is the worst processor ever built ....just so you know and don't measure processor by clock cycles!
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow can this guy work on my moped? --- wait, I knew I would want more speed so I bought a Harley.
Overclockers - guys with more time then money (must suck to be them). - gamer31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wow......
- OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I dugg this just so people can laugh at how crappy Intel is.
- TheD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0no YOU SUCK!
aimed at no one in particular...
