- ProjectGSX, on 07/29/2008, -1/+6Wow, looks like Via has a legit subnote proc here. I have to say, I am absolutely amazed.
- fuelvolts, on 07/29/2008, -1/+6Once again, Kyle and the gang at [H]ardOCP do an awesome job in their review. I'll be honest, I didn't know the Atom was as underpowered as it was. Just wait until Atom becomes dual core, that should even it up a bit.
- AceGoober, on 07/29/2008, -1/+5Very, very impressive performance showing from the Nano. I'm sold.
- frgmstr, on 07/29/2008, -1/+5Yeah, I think that a dual core Atom would surely be a better "notebook" solution while still having a very small power profile. In fact that is something I would like to give a go for sure. That said, we will see dual core Nano this year very likely too, but obviously the power becomes a bigger issue when you 2X Nano 25w TDP at 1.8GHz. You are then stepping back into "real" CPU territory.
- InorganicMatter, on 07/29/2008, -1/+4GO VIA! I have always been a bit fan of their high-efficiency ITX systems. They make GREAT firewalls based on Linux/BSD. :)
- iXneonXi, on 07/29/2008, -1/+4I can't wait to make a firewall or a small form factor HTPC. With a decent video card and maturing motherboards the Nano looks like a great choice.
- Eigtball, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Mmm VIA making a nice come-back punch.
- vandalous, on 07/29/2008, -1/+3Great comparison. Has lots of details I was not aware of between the two products.
- calebb, on 07/29/2008, -1/+2Wow - go Via! Competition is always great for the consumer. Great article - thanks for including all the real-world tests as well as synthetics.
They must have dredged up some of that latent Cyrix awesomeness from the vaults for the Nano? - j3llyh3ad, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Nice one, Kyle. The [H] delivers, yet again : )
- Unbekannt, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2Great stuff.. one comment, TDP is not power consumption but a design guideline for the motherboard mfrs. Knowing the slew of limitations that Intel imposed on the board makers, it is not too surprising that they can spec their TDP lower than VIA which has a much more "open" platform. I wouldn't be too concerned with the power consumption of either CPU in dual (core / poackage) configuration, especially if differential clock gating would be put into place so that the second core only comes to life under full load.
Thanks for the article - protias, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2Wow, I can't believe the Atom was spanked so badly
- 0mega, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1You know via, They'll have that 50w TDP down to 30 before they even consider releasing a dual core :D It'll be sweet. I want a Via carputer.
- DrDemento, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Sure looks like the VIA processor wins the battle. How come we dont see the push to make these more available if they are that much better?
- TehChemist, on 07/29/2008, -1/+1I hope VIA can get this into the netbooks flooding the market. I would love to pick up a HP MiniNote that runs with one of these.
