- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11They're already coming down. I ordered a reasonably loaded Dell E1505 dual core today (1.66GHz, 1GB of RAM, 80GB hard drive, DVD/RW, ATI X1400 256MB video card, SB Audigy audio, A/B/G bluetooth) for a bit more than $900. I drooled over the MacBook Pros but couldn't justify paying $1,100 more. Without the video card upgrade, audigy, and bluetooth it was less than $700.
Say what you want about Dell but they do run good specials. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is good, but isn't it kind of a given? Single core computers will probably be obsolete by the end of the first quarter of 2007.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Maybe the prices will come down? (lets hope)
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Impressive. Maybe some of the corporate box makers will finally get around to putting dual cores in their boxes.. *glares at Lenovo*
- ocram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My guess would be single core processors, as dual core processors provide a greater advantage to more people than 64 bit processors.
- ericrhodes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this is awesome!
- pyrix86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I brought an 820 recently - no doubt about it, dual core is awesome - Running some pretty heavy apps - i.e Bryce 5, Macromedia Fireworks 8/Dreamweaver 8, MSN Beta, and some not so heavies like Firefox and Outlook, my system doesnt even stumble. And 64bit too hehehe.
Multiple cores are the way of the future - isnt intel looking at bringing out a 4 core in 07? - bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its all about the business model

lll lll lll this is the one everyone should copy - bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3AMD will have a tough time compeating Intel is mass producing these chip, Id hate to say it but Intel right now is clearly the better mobile processor and that is why Apple chose them.
- Aurarch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3it really bugs me when people say duo interchangably for what should be "dual"
just cuz it's called dual core doesn't mean you can call it a duo! - codyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2AMD better put their game face on if this is true....
- smartpatrol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Intel has a desktop 4-core processor coming out 1Q 07. Clovertown is the code name.
- Nadcock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol "per cent"
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1exactly, many of these will be conroe chips which should be getting a new name. if they call them duo as well, i'll have to hurt intel.
- thebman990, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I recently built my dad a computer with a 830 3ghz dual core and 2 gigs of ram. That thing flies! It has five fans in it, but it is relatively quiet. I can do all kinds of intense stuff on it. I have a 2.8ghz dell I bought a few years ago, and it is nothing compared to my dad's beast.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's sort of funny how Intel has taken the average computer enthusiast's gaze from clock speed to multiple cores as if they've innovated somehow, when in reality, they're a technological follower.
- ebob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm. Intel came out with the Celeron D before the Pentium D and the Core Duo processors. I find it a little strange that their budget processor line was the first to have dual core.
(I know that the Celeron D is not dual core. However, the use of the "D" could confuse the less informed.) - theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The major question is whether single core or 32 bit processors will go obsolete first.

- reduxthree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^ So did I. Great value, there was a one-day special...mine was $699 with integrated video and no bluetooth, but same specs otherwise.
- daddyfizz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yeah becuase intel doesn't "mass produce" any of its other chips, and AMD's market share is falling...oh wait...
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I like my women in the kitchen and my cores to be duo.
- alphacorvus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"just cuz it's called dual core doesn't mean you can call it a duo! "
Agreed. Duo is the brand name, dual-core is the technology. You may think I'm splitting hairs but it's an importatnt distinction. - TheEndIsNear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny how AMD has had dual cores for quite some time. Now finally Intel is using dual core, it's about time.
I can't wait for the quad cores coming out late this year by AMD.
