- IEEE1394, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That Sandisk has no blue lights either! Don't you know blue LED's rule? LOL!
Too bad they don't light when it umm... gets stuck somewhere :P - patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think the hardware companies need to stop focusing on how small they can make their devices, but rather how much data they can affordably cram into one of them.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8My I-Stick already fits in my wallet. Even comes with a credit card-shaped holder.
- swingsetacid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Eh. If it breaks, then you're back to where you started if you didn't have a blue light in the first place. In the meantime, you get a blue light.
- slickfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah...sandisk has an SD card that has a usb plug on the other side....keep it in your camera....or even better your phone if it accepts it...even more security than the 1gb usb stick that I lost when it was around my neck plus dual uses and SD is pretty much a set standard and there are 512, 1gb and 2gb versions....this isn't so revolutionary...
drizzle - MadEnvoy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13"Stuck somewhere"? ewwww
- Tomato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This isn't small anymore!
There is an even SMALLER one: iDisk Diamond
http://gadgets.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2005/11/solid_alliance.html - swaxhog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Small is one thing but lack of blue LED is a deal breaker. I'm not giving up my Kingston 2GB. It's warm blue LED glow bathes the room in its awesomenes. And when someone tries to use it in a USB 1.1 computer, it flares angry red!
- PirateX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wanna make it cooler ?!
I forgot to mention, on my 1Gig USB-SD from Sandisk I distributed the space as follows:
....is set to boot Slackware Linux on the USB (256 Mb)
....has a True Crypt partition for my personal stuff ( 100 Mb )
....has some run-on-stick programs configured w/ PStart (256 Mb[Toorpak, Qemu, Foundstone,Sysinternals,Nirsoft,etc ])
....has some other programs to install on other machines (256MB of everything might be usefull, :-P)
... Off course, free space.
Be my guest, you can copy it and it looks sweet after is done!!!
Cheers Digg users... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Makes me look studdly
- CapitolK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I also have the PQI Intelligent Stick ( see http://www.pcstats.com/artvnl.cfm?articleID=1908 ), which is 3mm thick and is shaped just like this one from OZC.... So, yeah, OZC's 2.8mm thickness is smaller, but I somehow doubt that 0.2mm difference is worthy of attention... (what is 0.2mm, like the width of a strand of hair?? would a normal human being even be able to tell the difference between 3mm and 2.8mm thick without a microscope??)
- VeteranRanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree..
I have a 512MB Sandisk Cruzer Mini.. it's already small enough. (AND has a blue LED! :P)
What they do need to work on is more storage for less money.
It'd be great to have affordable 4+ GB USB flash drives.
P.S. This calls for a "I digg blue LEDs" shirt :) - Sapperlite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Make them smaller, I want it so small I can have it embedded under my skin. Also, incorporate blue tooth so I can just sit down next to a computer and download my files with out any hastle at all.
- eklitzke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I beg to differ. I'm not going to use a USB drive to keep all of my data on -- I just want it to store files and a few programs I want to keep with me all the time. I work in a computing center at my university, and tons of people leave their USB drives here on accident, and normally they are using less than 50 MB of space on them. I'd much rather have something that is small (i.e. fits in my wallet) and durable than something that has 10x more space than I'll ever use, and I'd suspect there are a lot of other people who feel the same.
- kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have this in a 1gb version.

Never mind getting stuck somewhere. I'd probably break this thing, it looks delicate. - PirateX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I was one of the first to have the Sandisk 1Gig USB-SD when they came out almost a year ago and I have to say, it is cool, fast, and YES it has a Blue LED. Looks very fragile and often people drool over this small piece of expensive tech on my keyring. Bought it just for the 007 effect. Too bad the USB plug and LED stop working last month and I'll be gettin' a exchage from Sandisk as it has 5yr warranty. Yeah..
Also, this one the got digged, it,s not that new or small. I bought one 256Mb on TigerDirect 6 months ago on sale, which was way cheap. It surprised me later on as it has a coolest Blue Led and it can be carried with my Smart Card or Wallet.
Anyway, old news for me but I DUGG !! - Determination, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it fits within the entire connector to the USB port. These drives don't feature that extra metal shielding that serves to protect / guide standard USB drives when inserting. If you look at a standard USB drive, you should see a square black piece of plastic with contacts on it. That's how thin these drives are, and they occupy the same space when inserted (the space between the receiving port's shield wall and it's "black piece of plastic with contacts")
- elsnow77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i just put mine on a lanyard and then its pretty hard to lose
- chopyaedoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had one the same size as that but smaller capacity (256MB) for over 4 months now. It's very handy to have to and comes in a plastic case.
I've just noticed - this is exactly the same as mine - just rebranded. - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now THAT should be on the front page!
- arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've had a USB memory card that's about 2.8mm thin and I keep in my wallet for a while now. It's only 256mb and it's the dimensions of a credit card but it's still convenient because I can keep it in something I always carry with me.
They're made by Freecom - http://www.usbcard.com/ - DJFMA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup, I've had one similiar, if not smaller for over 2 years.
- ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what a crappy and worthless self promoting blog
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Am I the only one who still like Compact Flash? It's not for any technical aspect of it. I just like that I can hold it in a clenched fist without the fear of crushing it to dust.
Damn tiny tech! - rockdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's out of control.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have the sandisk card for my dslr, i dont use the built in usb because its too small and feels like it is going to break when i try to plug it in.
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My little iStick kicks ass. Granted,t he most active thing I have running on it is my GTDwiki, but it comes in handy enough. The only problem is I have a couple close calls where I forgot it was still in the port when I left, or thought it might have fallen out of my wallet. (those card holders don't last long).
Just a heads up in case ya'll haven't figure this out yet: Make Backups. - zeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In my opinion, they are small enough as it is. The price needs to get dropped though, so that one can use them as floppies were used in the old days. (lent out and never returned etc.)
- fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Honey, I told you when you cleaned the lint trap in the dryer to look for my new drive! Now I'll never get my data back!
- anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1didn't this need an adapter when conected to a USB port?
- ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My brother bought me a 128mb USB stick a few years ago that was literally this small. I used it for a bit and lost it one day on the train because it was so small...
- zyphbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While that "iDisk Diamond" drive is smaller, a nicer looking 2.8mm drive is available at thinkgeek: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/806d/
much nicer - mdshort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man these are great, my flash disk (my first) is a fat thing that won't fit in the front of all the dells we have at school. I have to plug it in the back, which is really annoying. (I'll be looking into anything remotely thin.)
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well USB drives are pretty small enough. What we need to see is an increase in file transfer speeds. I have an Apacer HT203 200X, which claims speeds of: reads at 30MB/sec, and writes at 18MB/sec. This will prove more important as flash drives get larger in capacity and you have to move bigger files on there.
- ojk007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1its way ttoooo thin
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think the primary purpose in minimizing devices is to allow them to serve as components in larger systems. It's the difference between a computer with 400gb of hard disk space, a 4ghz processor, and 4gb of RAM only taking up a cubic foot and sitting on your desk, and a 10mb/3mhz/128k computer taking up a warehouse.
I prefer to ignore the obvious and immediate use of these innovations, they're more important as stepping stones to the future's essential devices. Conceptually, usb drives are just this decade's floppy disk. - theradical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, i've had a 1Gb flash drive that size for about a year now. thoughtfully enough it came with an optional case that has a USB connection on the end that significantly increases its size...that way it doesn't get "stuck" anywhere "unpleasant".
- raano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OCZ is behind the times. I've been using my 1 gig, credit card thick I-Stick for years.
- kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1my I-Stick comes with two spherical objects... no blinky lights though...
- axentrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Stuck somewhere, nice one.. That thing is too small, guess i prefer my Corsair Voyager 2GB, wih the size of the key to my ford :)
It's got a blue led! - MadEnvoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now this one may get "stuck somewhere"! There's a picture of one stuck in someones ear!
- carlosglz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have a PQI Stick.. it's awesome! It also comes with a credit card shaped holder that can fit 2 pqi intelligent sticks.
- rogersmj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are cool and all, but they've been around for at least a year!! They're not new. I bought one last spring. It is easy to lose in my bag ;)
- tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have an istick too, somehow the LED is always on the wrong damn side for me to even see it.
I wonder if this is made the same.
It seems that the connector is now the limiting factor in the size of these drives. - blueblood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OCZ makes good products i have one the thier power supplys and its the best one i have owned
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If it's that thin, how does it plug into a standard USB port?
A standard usb port is about 4 or 5 mm, hardly "credit card thin". - jellomizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1While there is a limit for a device that would be considered too small. But the process of making it small and usable is useful so you can cram more memory into a larger device.
- IEEE1394, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5No blinky blue light on an I-Stick. I had one too. Blue lights are much cooler!
- ISEEDEADPEOPLE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Slickfires right
the Sandisk things are great I have a couple of them
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1239)-SDSDPH-1024-SanDisk_Ultra_II_SD_Plus_USB_1GB.aspx
and forget the normal $ to dollar to £ pricing these are only £35 about $60 !! -
