- popzero, on 04/26/2009, -1/+63Someday they will LOL at our laptops and smart phones. Damn kids and their neural net spine jacks...
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -2/+37Worst is, most webpages hitting Digg Front Page are still hosted on these computers...
- krete, on 04/26/2009, -0/+26the guy in the second picture REALLY knows how to get work done
- TaylorHelferty, on 04/27/2009, -0/+21I can't wait till people in the future start laughing at the computers we have now. Wonder what they'll have that will make ours look so ridiculous. Then we'll all be on Digg, looking at the articles for the new technology at the time, reading through their comments, and one of us will inevitably make the comment "but can it run Crysis" because they still think it's funny. Then they'll get dugg down and someone will reply "My computer not only runs Crysis, but also robotically engineered the nanosuit, which I wore when I did your mom." Somehow, your mom jokes will still be in style.
- freshgrease, on 04/26/2009, -1/+14I miss my Commodore 64..... :(
- MorfiusX, on 04/26/2009, -0/+12It appears that the lower photo has had a horizontal flip applied as the keyboard's number pad and arrow keys are on the wrong side. These things must have been running Photoshop.
- bigp3rm, on 04/26/2009, -1/+12The TRS-80 was my 1st computer. Then I went all out and got a C-64 (hah)! I still remember the days of myself and my friend trading games on the BBS's. The original pirate bay.
- sockpuppets, on 04/26/2009, -2/+12DING DING. SCREEEEETTTCCCHHH

Anyone got any suggestions? - SanTe, on 04/27/2009, -0/+7Fap to 'The Great Gatsby.'
- jc7012, on 04/27/2009, -0/+7'swhat she said.
- sexypeon, on 04/26/2009, -1/+8Ever heard of a laptop?
- AmazingSteve, on 04/27/2009, -0/+5"What's that noise?!" Ahhhh MOM! DON"T PICK UP THE PHONE!!!!!
- DirtPile, on 04/27/2009, -0/+5Nope. That's what I'm using right now.
- thinkb4utype, on 04/27/2009, -0/+5We had a PDP 11/70 with dumb terminals. I think my phone has more computer power in it than that old DEC computer. Of course, we used the DEC to do calculations that were used to design and fly satellites. My phone is mostly used by my wife to ask me to pick up stuff.
The march of technology... - Timpala, on 04/27/2009, -0/+5I was at the Tandy/Radio Shack national sales conference in Chicago when the Model 16 was announced. It got a standing ovation.
It had a 68000 and a z80 CPU. If you notice, the guy in the picture is reviewing some MS-CoBOL as that's one of the first native programs that was available when the machine came out.
We sold every one we could get our hands on. - HonoredMule, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4The information comes /originally/ from a TED talk by Ken Robinson:

This, by the way, is a far more interesting and compelling video than that stupid "Did You Know" crap. - apothekari, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4A trash 8o is what it was called back in the day, especially by those of us that owned one of the lil' marvels.
I dunno why you're getting buried. - jjintheuk, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4Yawn *COPY + PASTE* from a video I saw.
He is on about the 'Did you know' video on youtube, its quite interesting to watch actually, but a bit outdated now because it was made a year ago (I think). - Avaseal, on 04/27/2009, -0/+4Man I hope so. We've accomplished so much technologically in the past 100 years that one can't help but wonder what another 50 years will present to us old geezers
- MatzahMan, on 04/26/2009, -2/+68008135
- DirtPile, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3Read 'The Great Gatsby.'
- MrPatriotMan, on 04/26/2009, -1/+4Check out the size of that floppy...
- Perk, on 04/26/2009, -0/+3Man do I miss DEC. Wang was great also.
Can't say I miss Tandy though...
Parse that for double entendre however you want~ - elarson, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3I wonder how many people who bought a DEC Rainbow were like, "*****, my keyboard is all backwards!"?
- NeoDreamer, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3Wang.
- ophello, on 04/27/2009, -0/+2'Cause the keyboard on the knee is the preferred way to get real work done.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -1/+3I do. I sit parallel to my desk, reclined with legs up on an extended drawer, keyboard in my lap, and my mouse in the gap between two 24 inch monitors. Works for me.
- mrBitch, on 04/27/2009, -0/+2What amazes me is that COBOL is still in use as a programming language. The COBOL language was released back in 1959.
- inactive, on 04/27/2009, -1/+3Got to love the old 8in floppies
- leukram, on 04/27/2009, -0/+2Ditto! I get sick of these posts about stuff from the past, but I especially get sick of people that make disparaging comments about the people or equipment from an earlier time. Things change. And yes, they generally improve. Get over it, and spend a little more time thinking about how those people were just as pumped about getting their TRS80, etc as we are about getting a Core 2 Quad, because it is/ was the best of its time. In 5 to 10 years, people will be maligning the equipment and fashions we think are cool today.
- Culyt, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Well with a screen that small you would want to be as close to it as possible, so moving the monitor forward and being on an angle would help.
- gemlarin, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Is that Clark Kent in the bottom picture?
- Wargasmic, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1And in style.
- bigp3rm, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Bards Tale III baby!
- inactive, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Guy needs to take better care of his floppies if he wants them to keep working.
- matrixbandit, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1lol oh yes.. and playing "Legend of the Red Dragon", one of the first morpg's
- ethana2, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Qwerty? Well-designed keyboard my butt.
..I very much look forward to making myself a ColemakBook :) ..the little bumps though, I don't know what I'm going to do about those. - eraser34, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1They were always willing to take my floppy.
- spfldnet, on 05/01/2009, -0/+1What's that guy writing on that piece of paper?
- mrBitch, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1RE: "... my phone has more computer power in it than that old DEC computer. Of course, we used the DEC to do calculations that were used to design and fly satellites. My phone is mostly used by my wife to ask me to pick up stuff.
The march of technology... "
Good point, and +1 to you, good sir. - marx2k, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1I did too until I bought one recently and tried playing some games. Lesson: stick to C64S or CSS64
- DirtPile, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Damn you! You beat me to it!
- mynameistux, on 04/27/2009, -1/+2also what she said
- jjintheuk, on 04/27/2009, -1/+2hahaahh - a well designed keyboard. Is it well designed because it has all the required keys on it? Or is it because it can perform multiple tasks e.g. It can be used as a keyboard OR.... be used as a weapon because it is so big and heavy?
- mrBitch, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1That was my first computer, a TRS-80 with 16Kb RAM and "Level II BASIC". Back then they were known as "micro-computers".
- donnytomas, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1Dugg for the high-powered hair spray on Mr. Trash 80. Is that Donald Trump?
