" - elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+225Uhoh, it made it to the front page of Digg. Tomorrow's story:"Digg Users Burn Down Man's House"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+157Hi guys, here I am, maker of the site. You have no idea what happened to me. This was totally unexpected. I programmed my computer to beep each time a user connected to the webcam. It was all quiet, about 1 beep a minute. Then all of a sudden, beep beep beep and then it was just an endless beep. I was unable to access the internet, and my FTP client could not replace the webpage. After minutes of trying, I finally managed to get a static webpage on there and my internet connectivity resumed as normal. As you can see with this message.
This is NOT a hoax at all, as many people can testify. Unfortunately, my home internet connection (4mbit down, much less up) cannot handle the webcam requests. I have a solution for this which I'll try implementing in the next hours (it will upload the webcam screenshots to my webserver in the UK, instead of serving every client from my home computer).
Cheers everyone, I'm sorry about this, I need some advice - I don't know if 100s of digg users will have fun clicking the lights at the same time, it just isn't as good as a "private session". Any ideas are welcome here, reply to this post.
Once again, I apologise. - PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -7/+151Who's bright idea was it to put this on digg?
Sorry for the pun, but I couldn't resist. Please, digg me down. - DoodlesMcPooh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+73Can everyone bury this article so the poor guy can get his internet connection back up please.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49best response to being Dugg, EVAR!
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47"All I want for Christmas is a OC3 connection and a cluster of web servers with load balancing"
Ahh, not quite as catchy as "2 front teeth", but more practical in your case :) - pap3rw8, on 10/12/2007, -5/+52from the site:

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42Ya too bad 99% of us wont get to play because the site won't be able to handle so many people.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+48This is the reason why I love digg, I love jokes! :D
- jackminardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40It seems real to me.
in his "how i did it" page he demonstrated that he could, so i dont see why it would be a hoax - RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41dugg just for the "crappycircuit.jpg" in his root directory
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38Nope, I'm not that guy. This is the real deal... just not doable when my home network is being dugg to death.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37lol we broke his internets
- arTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36now that it's on the front page of digg, i'm sure his fuse box must be weeping.

- Kizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23This guy made a similar site where you can control more than a christmas tree. It has been around for years. http://drivemeinsane.com/

100% real from 2005 on.
Also 100% real is the over $14,000 raised for Celiac Disease. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Actually, this is the first year I've done this. Please get your facts straight before posting crap like this.

- alekdigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I've got four dedicated 100 Mbps Apache/Linux Servers running mod_perl ... it takes a bit of horsepower to stand up to the DIGG effect - bring it on! ;-)
http://www.komar.org/cgi-bin/christmas_webcam - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Hahahaha. He can't access the internet. Brilliant.
- aaronm67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16leave the poor guy's server alone. He doesnt need half of Digg downloading a 5mb file from him.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Homer: "Wow! Look at it goooo"

Drop me a note if you want to chat about re-broadcasting - contact info on the above URL - although sounds like you are pretty astute technically.
Hats off to you for doing this - awesome job commenting over here in DIGG and speedy recovery from the beep-beep-beep-BEEP! Have bookmarked your page and will definately circle back once the DIGG effect is gone to check it all out.
Merry Christmas,
alek - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Damn this ain't workin... even my super webhost is going down with the digg effect
- kyleh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10poor guy....

LEARN TO SPELL. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It IS a live webcam... but due to the digg effect I have had to cut down on the refresh time. People offering webhosting, all very nice, but you got to understand that the webcam data still has to go through my internet connection, as well as all the light commands.
Seb - nonesupplied, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Dugg just for having Pink Floyd in his sub directory.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The website can now be accessed at
http://lol.lauriedenness.net/christmas/index2.php
Since my webhost has taken my site down due to this:
"We have noticed that your account is using many server resources
at the moment. The hours your account has had 397019
requests for your site which is quite allot. We will have to ask
you take measures to lower the load or we may be forced to temporarily
suspend your website."
Fantastic. - Lionhart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9or just turn off the server. Either way this must be entertaining to watch from outside the house.
- WonkerSmack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I loved your response to all the traffic..."Help me!"
I'd have done the same. -
