echo - inactive, on 11/12/2007, -0/+10No! Computers are run by magic! I refuse to read this...la! la! la! la la la! la! la!
- happytedium, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9Hello Clarice.
- manitoba98xp, on 11/12/2007, -1/+9It's quite odd to see Firefox on the Mac try to download an EXE, as well as asking me (in the webpage) to install an ActiveX Component. Oh, and dugg down, reported, and blocked.

Updates please? - damm, on 11/13/2007, -1/+8I find the title incorrect, it should be titled.
"How a Motherboard Works" ... not "Great Motherboard Guide" as I thought... hey maybe they had a tested some new motherboards and ranked them, and gave them pros and cons.
... So I must do this and bury it. - Vorin, on 11/13/2007, -0/+6just put your faith in asus to give you a good one.
- NiGHTSChao, on 11/12/2007, -0/+5a gaming PC
- valkyries, on 11/12/2007, -0/+5hey maxvideos i downloaded that exe on ur page but when i run it, nothing happens. and the page updates flash for me to. dont know what to do but ill try downloading it agian.
- jdm0778, on 11/12/2007, -0/+4I did, too. Very pretty, dugg.
- jgtg32a, on 11/12/2007, -0/+3I read the articles.
- benroy, on 11/12/2007, -0/+3I'm going to bookmark this so when a client asks me how a computer works I can just send them a link. Some (most) people think that computers are full of pixie-dust, wizardry and magical toads.
P.S. Please don't correct me for not spelling magic with a k. I'll be forced to kill you with your own 20-sided die. - m0laria, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2I did too..
- Jordan777, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2Not at all haha. I don't know too much of the technical stuff even though I built two computers I just make sure it has the parts I need on it like a certain number of Pci or Pci express x16 slots and stuff like that.
- Sparticuz, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2i hope not...looks like a virus or something to me
- shadowblade989, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2i love ars...technica
- ChildofKnight, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2Hmmmm. OK. Where's Part 2?
- PueSi, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2They fail to mention that AMD motherboards don't have Northbrige since the memory controller is on the processor, it doesn't work with a FSB either...
- philhatesyou, on 11/12/2007, -1/+3A CPU is not an ALU. A CPU *contains* one or more ALUs as well as other stuff, like an FPU. Let's try and get it right, mmkay.
- carnag3aus, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2I consider myself a nerd, but this was still kinda cool and informative. thanks.
- leahcimic, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Tried that once, worked out well until I had my Jewish friend over, whom insisted on crucifying my board.
- tito13kfm, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Flash Player 11 made me think of one of my favorite movies.
“You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up… Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff… Eleven. One louder.”
“Why don’t you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?”
“These go to 11.”
Oh yeah, reported. - sexybobo, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1I put my faith in Gigabyte. Cost less then Asus and I have installed 25 of them in pc's over the last couple of years and never had a bad one. (Got 20 ECS mobo for a job once and 7 boards were bad will never buy them again)
- linuxlucas, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Buried because it didn't explain how to buy a motherboard like the title suggests.
- DonIncognito, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for tech news finally making the front page
- m0laria, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1i put my faith in jesus to give us good motherboards
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+2I've just started to learn ASM and this is a weird inspiration of sorts
- flangepiece, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1It's what you were doing when you were "just looking at the pictures" which you should be worrying about.
*fap fap fap* - JustAboutReal, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1I vote for gigabyte as well
now if only they'd built a gigabye of flash storage into the mobo, preinstalled with Damn Small Linux! - payrok, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Don't do it!! It will drive you INSANE!!! Turn back now before its too late!!!
- Patzke, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1I never read articles. Just look at the pictures and very seldom, if it looks rather interesting, do I actually read through the article. :D
- canadalolz, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1computer hardware 101. :
- stargatesteve, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Lame. Was it even possible for the article to get any more basic? That wasn't a guide to anything. And inaccurate to boot.
- brbeaird, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1TLDR
- OverlordXenu, on 11/12/2007, -2/+2ASUS is full of overpriced gimmicks. DFI makes the best overclocking motherboards, and MSI and Gigabyte make good quality motherboards. Abit makes crap.
- starzz, on 11/12/2007, -0/+0lol I thought this said Great Motherhood Guide when I first read it... whew I need more sleep!
- drph1l, on 11/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone else not like how RAM was referred to as "storage"? Any computer science textbook makes the distinction between storage and memory. Memory = RAM Storage = Hard drives, CD's etc.
- SaPpHiReLaNiNjA, on 03/10/2009, -0/+0If you want to get rid of your old mobo's, I have an ongoing project to recycle them for a good cause http://digg.com/hardware/Mobo_Art_Project
- screwloose45, on 11/12/2007, -13/+2Am I the only one who just looks at the pictures?
