- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe I could attach one to my TV remote?
- ogletree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Plus it has to be visable to the sky you can't stick it in a purse or a trunk of a car.
- WrecksTXP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good way ti find out where your kids REALLY went on Friday night.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well so how is this sapose to work.
you cant stick it under a car. It wont be able to get any sat data.
So you'll have to tape it to the persons back or stick it on the roof of the car!
Oh by the way your cell phone is a better tracking device.
If I have you cell number. I can find where you are with-in 1/3 of a mile.
if your phone has the GPS feature I can find your location down to 10 feet if your not moving and down to 1 foot if you are, Something to think about. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cbrack's right. All they'd need would be a localized epirb, a device that shoots out radio pulses to transmitters or sattellites (probably pretty useless). But I'm sure that there'd be responsive enough scanners to pick up a miner's epirb.
- RockyMtnTrackng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check out the tracking devices at www.rmtracking.com. Hit products page and see all their products. The Track Stick is item #1. They have passive and real time devices.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1months of travel on 1mb? yeah right... What does it do, take one reading a day?
- digitalunltd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$50 (gps chip) + $10 (memory) = $250 Yay!
- costoa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1EPIRB: Emergency Position Indicating Radiobeacon. EPIRBs are real lifesavers.

- FrostyFire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It actually runs on 2 AAA batteries, so smaller than you think.

I was expecting it to report the data. Having to actually get the device back and plug it into a computer is stupid. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"If I have you cell number. I can find where you are with-in 1/3 of a mile."
I highly doubt that. - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DAmmit they cost 250 Freegin' Dollars!!!!!!
No way I'm getting one! - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 No need to worry, from what I can tell it's not much of a stalker tool since you need to somehow get it back again to retrieve the data from it. It's not even very useful to track something like your car. It just shows you where it was after you get it back.
- Eaglefire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm interested in this Boost option. Is there a website, tutorial, or forum post that describes the methodology?
- loustylez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too bad there's no way to remotely send the info to the web. this would be great for car security.

nonsense, I have a B/T Tom Tom GPS for my Treo and you can put the receiver in the glove box and it still works. Not as well as if it's on the dash but it still works. - geomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Can anyone say restraining order?"
For what? This obviously has other non-criminal uses. - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"+Digg For the Title"
Ha ha, just noticed. That is indeed a very nice title.
:D - retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Plus it has to be visable to the sky you can't stick it in a purse or a trunk of a car."
Says who?
Anyways, what sucks about this device is that it doesn't appear to be useable with a live connection (say, to a PDA or laptop) for real time navigation.. you can get a bluetooth GPS for that purpose, for something like 50-100 bucks, much better imo, unless you're stalking someone -.- - amprancid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They sent me an email with a retailer in 7 min.
http://www.bluewatersecurityprofessionals.com/Track_Stick.html - cptshamrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks pretty cool if you wanna track someone after you and get the stick back or track yourself day to day but its a bit expensive
- amprancid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Car security is a possibility if you have a computer in your car. For example, a mini-itx car kit, wireless + an antenna, and a track stick would do it. Have a script use your wireless to connect to any open networks in the area, then email yourself the data from the stick (keep it plugged in) and tada. Instant car tracking.
Aside from the price, it would make for an interesting project. You could also install this in a car your kids use, so you know where they are.
Another thing (lol), its probably best to keep it hidden in the trunk or something, or else it will get ripped out when you car gets stolen. - aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i need like 10 of these. i want to stock my ex-gf. she's being a bitch and avoiding me lately.
- MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so besides this stick, what other small cheap real time (or not real time) devices are there out there at a reasonable price? (available/usable in Canada/US)

+61 432 644 584 - EmmEff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh, "months of travel information in 1MB"? I don't think so... My Garmin has 24MB (most of used by maps, but much more than 1MB free) and it won't keep more than a couple of days. Dubious claim at best...
- snoudude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For $50 I'd consider it as a poor man's lo-jack, but you can buy (for $100) a usb receiver and software to do the "Tom Tom" thang or for $200 a good enough GPS and software so I wouldn't need the laptop.
$250 is just too plain much - $25 and I'd buy 2 just to hack 'em and put Linux on them :) - Cheeze_Head, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This dream device for stalkers"
scary that this is the first place the submitter goes... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gps on a stick? :) Lol The technology doesnt seem very reliable. I'll pass.
- cbrack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we can put GPS devices in a stick but can't equip miners with some sort of similar technology to be able to locate them in case of a disaster... great.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've downloaded their software, it reads a 'tsf' file any idea what that format is? It would be cool to use this software with the output from my Garmin GPS.
- crossers, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0look. this is great." It receives signals from 24 satellites orbiting our planet. The built-in 1MB memory allows months of travel information, which can be exported to RTF, XLS, HTML or KML to a PC via USB port."

minus digg - theevilshiftkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So for $250 this device will do the same thing that my $100 GPS device does... except it's useless for anything else because it doesn't have a screen? LAME + no digg = I want my click back.
- umberto21, on 01/16/2008, -0/+0MMh. I have one with me right now,
from a friend of mine, who asked me to try & work out what is wrong with it.
It seems to work as planned (green blinking, etc.. but it shows no data in the file .TSF)
The trackstick .TSF file seem to be a group of blocks of 34 bytes for each GPS position, most likely saving the latitude/longitude , time and maybe some other stuff like speed and nbr of satellites (accuracy).
Regarding locating that australian mobile phone number, it IS possible by triangularization of signal stength to Mobile phone antennas. BUT : 1. it's almost impossible to access that data unless you are a telstra tech . 2.you 'd have to be in the city somewhere where your phone could reach more than 3 antennas at the same time (ex : camberwell 12%, hawthorn 56% and burwood 19%) . and EVEN THEN it would be so innacurate .. within a kilometer maybe.
if anyone is working on the .TSF FILE FORMAT , please let me know
umberto21 at fastmail dot fm - error401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All you naysayers need to think outside the box. I'd love one of these things for going backpacking or backcountry skiing. I want to avoid tech gadgets when I'm out in the wilderness, and the lack of a screen wouldn't give me any excuses to play with one. But I could still go home and get an accurate account of where I went to examine on topo maps and discuss with my party. Maybe a niche, but a useful product nonetheless. Not paying $250 for it though...
Great for stalking too. - Trackstick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great product. Can be purchased from www.trackstick.net

In order to do what the original poster was doing he or she must have access to the central control room at a cellular provider. Assuming that this is the case, (maybe he or she works for a cellular company), then they are absolutely correct in posting that comment. However, some phones cannot be tracked when not making a call - but almost all the newer models maintain a "two-way" communication between towers and the phone. If they are sitting behind a computer NOT working for a cellular company - then I'm not aware of how you would do that.
On this product - I agree with the poster about outdoor activities - but for the price one would do better with a mid-grade Garmin or Magellan GPS which could do the same thing along with a whole slew of other functions.
Make it $30 and I'm interested. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok then smartass, here is my phone number, where am i now?

England? Canada? Austrailia? Not in the USA that's for sure - costoa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0For those in the US: get a Boost prepaid phone ($80) with gps and track in close to real time for $0.20 a day or $73 per year.

What is Digg?
