- kelway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For those too young to remember, the Tears For Fears song is playing because of the ?'86? movie Real Genius, which centered around high powered lasers.
- NuClear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i would be scared to death if these went/are commercial
- EPeters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The music proves that these guys are HUGE nerds. However, I love that movie, too.
- godulous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i own one a bit more powerfull than this, its 200mw and its a large non portable model, the color is significant, red absorbs the 532nm wavelength and causes the amterial to heat extremely fast, black also has the same effect.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can buy them anywhere. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/5a47/
- cool4u2view, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0try wickedlasers.com or laserglow.com
- kree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow. simply amazing. [yawn]
- test5477, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where's the popcorn, if they are going to play that song with a laser then they needed to pop some popcorn.. Funny Movie - young Val Kilmer muchh different than old Val Kilmer
- JohnWPB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The lasers ARE available to the public for purchase. I saw a demo of the green laser on, (yes I know, I know....) Attack of the show. They were also popping red balloons with it. The guy demonstrating the laser pointed out that they were not available in the US and had to be purchased in Canada. There were 2 separate safety mechanisms that had to be held simultaneously to activate the laser. Its no "Pocket laser" for sure! Its about the size of a 3 D battery Mag Lite.
I also know nothing about lasers, but the color red has to have some significance. The red balloons and red cups ect. This must be something to do with the light frequency of the green laser or something..... - tempestivo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The green ones on ThinkGeek ain't gonna do that to a baloon, however they are pretty cool. The one I have is factory tuned to 4.9 mW. Beam goes about 1,000 feet. Has to be pretty dark to see it though. Got mine here: http://www.z-bolt.com/generic27.html
- SuperRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Only things I seen damaged was the balloon.. The cups looked fine to me. Maybe I wasn't watching very well. Nice digg."
Then you weren't watching very closely at all. The lasers were basically melting holes in the cups, which is why you could see the laser going through it. You didn't really expect the cups to just explode, or melt into a plastic puddle, did you?
It's basically like sticking a nail through it, which is why the balloons pop, but the cups and everything else maintain their integrity. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Only things I seen damaged was the balloon.. The cups looked fine to me. Maybe I wasn't watching very well. Nice digg.
- z0rz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0where can I get one?
- chewbaccawokka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm too stupid to understand lasers, but the music was a very soothing touch.

What is Digg?
