- yearginsm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+50My favorite elevator hack? Push the floor button rapidly hundreds of times. The elevator senses your urgency, and whisks you away to the floor. Also works on crosswalks.
{/sarcasm} - jaysi, on 10/12/2007, -11/+42does not work and has been posted many times here before.
- Offill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Seems to work at my office. 90% of the time traveling from the 10th floor to the first floor I stop on another floor. I've tried this 6 times and haven't had a single delay. Is luck on my side?
- themarq, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22It does work, you just have to try it on more than one elevator, the article clearly states which elevators it works on.
- Kazaki, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22What vertically aligned mall do you go to?
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I remember seeing an office for "Schindler's Lifts" on the way to work! Made me laugh too :)
- niqhil, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18It does work.
BTW this is all you see on the link -
The designers of some elevators include a hidden feature that is very handy if
you're in a hurry or it's a busy time in the building (like check-out time in
a hotel). While some elevators require a key, others can be put into "Express"
mode by pressing the "Door Close" and "Floor" buttons at the same time. This
sweeps the car to the floor of your choice and avoids stops at any other floor.
This seems to work on Most elevators that I have tried! Most elevators have the
option for this to work, but on some of them the option is turned off by whoever
runs them. This is a rather fun hack, so the next time you are on an elevator,
give it a try, you have nothing to lose, And this concludes Hacking Elevators 101!
Elevators that have been tested and worked on:
Otis Elevators (All But The Ones Made In 1992),
Dover (Model Numbers: EL546 And ELOD862),
And Most Desert Elevators (All, But Model Numbers ELD5433 And ELF3655) - sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15i heard if you push the close door button and the open door button with the buttons, 6, 3, 15, 4 and 7 (assuming theres that many levels) it takes you to a level where no elevator can go, and no stair can reach.
Inside this secret floor, there is a door, a door of light. You must enter it. - tobiasproject, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13i've found if you pull your pants down on an elevator nobody else gets on at any other floors either.
- flite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15take the stairs
:rimshot: - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8the world may never know...
- Scottamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6to do that one properly you have to push every button then get off the elevator.
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8i heard abnout this years ago. wasnt it in the anarchist cookbook?
- uncleLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3how is this a "hack?" more like an exploit really...but i guess you gotta use the word hack if you're on digg
- numptydumpty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why the hell did i get dugg down? jesus the people that use this site are morons... at least lcarsdeveloper got it.
***** idiots - derekbez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Aren't the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42?
- Dochtuir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2where does 4,8,15,16,23,42 take you?
- acemilo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Press the floor you want + door close to make it go to your floor directly.
- acemilo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Ya this crops up every couple months, I've tried it many times (along with the other elevator "hacks") and never gotten it to work. Supposedly another one is if you press every button the elevator will reset so you can press your floor and screw over everyone else in there but that never works.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Entering "secret floor" "door of light" into google only gets an entry for legend of legia that doesn't match up with what's being said here.
- mkultra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I dunno about this hack, but in my building if you simply hold down the button of the floor you want it won't stop in between. Not sure of the elevator make though.
- amk29j, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, all the malls around raleigh are no more than 2 floors, they're still rather large though.
- mentor972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I travel ALL the time and try this ALL the time. It NEVER works.....
...oh yeah.. DUPE!! - capitocapito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now I can't meet my potential lovelife on the elevator...
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Patience please grasshopper, who knows who you'll miss meeting in this rush.
- Veretax, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6yea this is Old news... I seem to recall the Old Screen savers having a bit on this what two three years ago?
- baranovich, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Definitely works. I've seen it done and done it a few times myself.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I used to work at a nuke plant, and the cargo elevators there would do something similar. The doors had to be opened and closed by holding down the buttons (They didn't open whenever the elevator stopped on a floor). If you hold down the "Door Close" button, it passes any floor where someone might have called the elevator. It was very easy to piss off cranky rad techs trying to get around to do surveys with this tactic.
- armyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Found this article originally 2 years ago on this site: http://www.textfiles.com/anarchy/
I work a job that requires me to go on office/hotel/apartment building elevators on a daily basis - upwards of 10-15 elevators a day. I actually try this on EVERY elevator I ride, every time, specifically looking for "Otis" "Dover" & "Desert" elevators.
In the 2 years I've been doing this - it has NEVER worked. Nope, not once. The only thing you'll find when you do this is yourself looking stupid as you try to press two buttons (usually a good distance from eachother on the touch pad) exactly together with people looking at you as if you're mental. LOL! - cnt2infinity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Works at the Hilton at Boston airport. I figured it would work since they also have an complimentary unprotected IBM Netvista for Internet use which is infected with spyware of course. Along with their crap food all I need to do now is to hack into the liquor cabinet, which is alarmed and locked. hhhmmmmm!
- NismoDrift, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is stupid never tried it but what it seems like only a few elevators actually work and all the elevators I go on have no way of knowing the model number. Well since I saw this alot on digg time to try it out for myself plant myself on the 6th floor on elevator and friend on 2nd floor waiting for the elevator while I'm going to the first floor. yea!
- nickdanger3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Maybe Most Elevators is a brand... ;)
- redeyesofnight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I saw something like this quite awhile ago, and i still try it on almost every elevator i ride, and i have not yet gotten it to work, so whether it does on some or not, it can hardly be said that it works on "Most" elevators.
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd try this on my office elevator, but it only has 2 floors. :/
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The article says nothing about it working if other floors are selected on the inside, just that it supposedly works when there are people calling the elevator.
- fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Old and inaccurate... no digg + inaccurate
- clutchperformer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works for me... statistically anyway.
The gain for me is minimal since I deal with 4 floor buildings in this complex.
But over the last two years I've made a habit of timing ascent and descent on a busy elevator. It appears I can preempt competing outside floor requests and go expressly to the desired floor. It's hard to say though because I can't tell if anyone is on the other side.
I can say that over the course of two years of testing with a stopwatch, ascent times to target floor average (mean) 8 seconds better than without the technique. Descent times average 4 seconds better.
However, this may not be because of floor preemption (although the incidence of floor stopping is decreased by 10% when using the hack) and may be due to closing the door overtly, thus speeding up the embarkation initially. - kaytrio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2tell me... did you find any mind altering substances in this "door of light"?
- acariquara, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yes, that's level 33.1
props to whoever gets the reference - maxkelley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Chloe Chronicles?
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, if you do this, you'll save 8 seconds of your own time, at the expense of 45 seconds for each person you bypass. Pure Genius - right up there with cutting in line in the grocery store.
- sboxler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't anybody use the stairs anymore? No hack needed to get to the bottom floor (and no uncomfortable silence to deal with as in an elevator)
- ZorboMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This comment was funny! Shouldn't have been buried.
Anyhow, I have tried it a number of times in my office and so far it appeared to work everytime but once. I figured I might have hit the buttons at the wrong time, though, so I'm still not entirely sure if it works or not. - jarbro, on 07/23/2009, -1/+1quick hold down the floor button and the door close button on this digg! maybe you can pass right over it!
- smackfumaster, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11I only have 3 floors! Guess I need to find a new place of employment to try this out...
- capitocapito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1By FAR my favorite Digg Story. Short, sweet, and occasionally useful. (If it works.)
- redeyesofnight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1But What if i don't want to visit the source, what if i'm cool with all of zion being extinguished and everyone attatched to the matrix dying sketch?
- benwaterworth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2this is really really old news.
saw this on here when i first starting visiting digg (about a year ago) - skankyBacon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It is hard to test here, having only 4 floors (I work on the 4th), but I try it any time I can. So far I haven't had to stop at any other floor, but that could mean no one's called it between 1 and 4.
Also I've looked everywhere and can't see any sort of brand markings. So I guess I keep trying until it's disproven. - MegaSilver, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2The designers of some elevators include a hidden feature that is very handy if
