- smashingmonkey, on 11/13/2009, -0/+348This is how someday a PC virus will jump to an organic host.
- NinjAlt, on 11/13/2009, -3/+290I once saw one of my tech teachers bring in a computer to show what the effects of smoking around a computer will do to the components. It is still something that makes me gag when I think about it. It was pretty much a giant yellowish cake-like slab of something all over EVERYTHING and then he hit it with a shop vac on blow outside and it kicked up this huge toxic looking cloud that looked like mustard gas and probably functioned about the same.
- Frankzulla, on 11/13/2009, -2/+201Ugh, I can't believe people let their machines get that filthy. But I've seen plenty like'em myself.
- purkel, on 11/13/2009, -1/+173If 2nd hand smoke does that to a computer, just imagine what it does to your lungs...
- ballsmcgee, on 11/13/2009, -1/+171Those are bad, yes--but this is just horrific: http://imagecheese.com/images/dirtykeybo.jpg
- Shitokki, on 11/13/2009, -1/+131WTF? Do these people use their computers in a coal mine?
- lagmar, on 11/13/2009, -1/+121The dirty keyboard makes me want to vomit.
- gardnmi, on 11/13/2009, -0/+80Why do I have a sudden urge to clean everything?
- earthtones, on 11/13/2009, -2/+77What I don't want to know is what the surrounding offices/homes look like.
- SiSurfer, on 11/13/2009, -1/+76I used to work in a CompUSA tech shop. They sold a PC Cleaning service for $20 -- the salesperson got a $5 commission on each on they sold. Every time I smelled smoke on someone's breath, or if they had a Dell Dimension (the design of those towers somehow caused dirt to clump up), the first thing I'd do would be to pop the side off their computer (no matter what they were bringing it in for) and look shocked at the amount of dust in there. This tactic single handedly covered my beer expenses through college. Problem was, I had to go clean the damn things after I sold it.
- EddiePotato, on 11/13/2009, -0/+69Those are the worst. Their cigar smoke and little empty liquor bottles get everywhere.
- badqat, on 11/13/2009, -0/+61Like yours isn't filthy? I've seen what you do with your computer!
- Nodaki, on 11/13/2009, -0/+61When I used to do home PC repair I was used to this nastiness. I brought latex gloves to job sites because the computers, peripherals, and desks were flat out nasty.
- ziplizard, on 11/13/2009, -6/+62Macs don't get dust. It's something only PC users have to deal with, along with viruses, bloated software, and internet trolls.
- DBeta, on 11/13/2009, -1/+57To be fair, your body has a self cleaning ability that the computer is lacking. I'm not saying that smoking is good for anyone, but modern computers and people are constructed considerably different.
- openthink, on 11/13/2009, -1/+53I thought these kind of horrific pics were banned... what about the children who could view them?
- shinepdx, on 11/13/2009, -1/+47I had customer's machine that was originally a clear acrylic case that became a yellow case from all the smoke. All the LED fans were coated in tar and dust you couldn't see the LEDs. The reason they brought it is was it kept shutting down due to a seized cpu fan. It was by far the grossest computer I have ever seen, and smelled like an ash try and death.
- Kudrak, on 11/13/2009, -2/+42I once removed a PC from a smokers office, the entire outer case was a different color from all the other identical machines installed at the same time. It was a dingy yellowish color that I could only describe as nasty! The inside was even worse.
- Corr0sive, on 11/13/2009, -1/+36My friend told me about this guy who would EVERYDAY clean his keyboard and mouse with wet naps, and Q-tips. Well he and the rest of the IT crew found out, and decided to swap out his mouse and keyboard at the end of everyday. So on his return to the next day of work, his keyboard and mouse would be covered in the daily grime. He couldnt figure out why it kept getting dirty, but they did it everyday, and ended up circulating all the keyboards and mice threw this guys desk and it kept the IT from having to clean them.
Probably pissed the guy off... - ascheeseman19, on 11/13/2009, -0/+34What has been seen can not be unseen.
- EddiePotato, on 11/13/2009, -0/+33Description of failure: dead mouse and several bugs.
- Toshibi, on 11/13/2009, -2/+35I don't want to see my lungs. I smoke two packs a day....
- JohnErickson44, on 11/13/2009, -0/+33Yeah, I've seen this before. But I was installing some more memory in a computer that was a few years old and I opened it up and found an unopened granola bar inside that expired many years ago and he claimed to had never opened up the case. So this stuff happens. haha
- Valyn, on 11/13/2009, -1/+32I was in teh Navy for 6 years, and one job i had was painting jets. Which means sanding, and A ***** TON of blue-gray dust making its way into the shop.
When our computer lost its 3rd hard drive in 2 weeks (that's only cause it takes forever to get them fixed), I figured I would clean it out before it got replaced again. The entire mid-tower was one big thick dust bunny.
I also got in trouble for opening the case because "I was not qualified to do that." - verkon, on 11/13/2009, -0/+28That's electrocution for you. All the death but none the horror.
- pacopaitz, on 11/13/2009, -0/+27Reminds me of the time crazy cat lady brought her PC into the shop. I think the cats used the pc as a litter box because I poured piss out of the PC.
- Chamrox, on 11/13/2009, -0/+26Many grocery stores use PC's for cash registers. Words cannot describe how gross those things get.
Computers in a warehouse get dirty, sure, that dirty. But computers in a grocery store? Yeeeech. - robwhite1979, on 11/13/2009, -0/+26Oh...my...god
- bubbachuck, on 11/13/2009, -0/+25....did those mice get stuck in the printer and die? they don't exactly look dead...but not don't look alive either.
- Couchy, on 11/13/2009, -0/+23no thats what a vaporizer does
- Hellahulla, on 11/13/2009, -0/+23What did you do with the bar?
- cocoamix, on 11/13/2009, -2/+24Not to gross you out any more than you already are, but most of the dust seen in those pictures is human skin, as is almost all dust in homes and offices.
- Johnka, on 11/13/2009, -0/+22Those hands look way too clean for that keyboard.
My first thought was that it was this guy's computer:
http://img.wonkette.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08 ... - robwhite1979, on 11/13/2009, -0/+22Well, it will only cost you about 99$ at the Apple store to get it cleaned...
- doctechnical, on 11/13/2009, -0/+22I work for a company that does tech support for (amongst other things) pet stores. We see a lot of this stuff. And the occasional dead critter curled up inside.
- mississippiman, on 11/13/2009, -1/+22Problem is that users like this wouldn't change/check the filters anyway.
- JHole04, on 11/13/2009, -0/+18Sorry.. it wouldn't let me digg you up more than once :/
- EnderWiggin, on 11/13/2009, -0/+18Jesus is way too busy showing up on pancakes and toast!
- WarnerK, on 11/13/2009, -0/+15Thank you. I literally stopped reading when I noticed how many pages there were. This is getting ridiculous.
- diggduggDOOM, on 11/13/2009, -0/+15Was the hobo spider carrying a tiny bindle?
(btw, thanks for the inspiration to find out what a hobo spider is - never heard of them before) - valis, on 11/13/2009, -2/+17and ... one ... happy... print ... button ... right ... at ... the ... top
- BaphClass, on 11/13/2009, -2/+17Dugg for the reference to The Thing. Such an awesome movie.
- theundone, on 11/13/2009, -0/+14Check out these few that have come through my shop:

It's amazing just how disgusting some PC's can be, and even more amazing that people actually let them get way. - Boblamov, on 11/13/2009, -0/+14I think I'm getting the black lung, Pop, it's not very well ventilated down there.
- JohnEskandarian, on 11/13/2009, -1/+15Fans with filters on them go a long way to prevent this. Some cases even have removable filters over any possible fan positions. I highly recommend them, even if you don't build your own computers. They range from $3-7 on newegg, depending on the size. Definitely a worthwhile investment to keep heat down and prolong component life.
- YZBot, on 11/13/2009, -0/+14I regularly work on machines that come out of gravel pits and other mining operations. Some of them look like they were dug out of the ground. When turning them on a cloud of dirt will puff out of the power supply.
I would much rather deal with dirt than clumps of hair though. - purkel, on 11/13/2009, -0/+13yeah i smoke some pot from a bong... im always cleaning out the tar from the inside and wondering if my lungs look the same on the inside. if i have that much tar in my lungs, how am i still breathing?
- evil-doer, on 11/13/2009, -0/+13yeah ive worked on a smokers pc, its much worse on the inside. the dust is STICKY from the tar and whatnot. another bad kind to work on is cat owners pcs. lots of the fur gets inside there.
- enigmatics, on 11/13/2009, -0/+13I'll never forget the parents who dropped off their son's computer with semen spluge on it at the computer store I worked at. WTF, seriously?
