- plizard, on 11/09/2007, -2/+87people still buy gateways?
- ThinkBox, on 10/29/2007, -11/+76"....$2,000+ price tags have never really stopped XPS customers before."
They wouldn't be customers if it HAD stopped them. Engadget - the pinnacle of tech journalism - inactive, on 10/29/2007, -1/+29Yeah, they didn't. But I see what you did there trying to bring Apple up into an article that has nothing to do with Apple. And no, I'm not a Windows fanboy, I actually use OS X.
- lordtyros, on 10/29/2007, -6/+32That's pretty attractive. Does it come in black?
- Topher06, on 10/29/2007, -1/+27Do you care what color is the back of your monitor/computer? Can I save $50 and have it plastic colored?
- louiedog, on 10/26/2007, -0/+22It might turn plaid if you up it to ludicrous clockspeed.
- zmjone2992, on 10/29/2007, -2/+24what does that have to do with anything. ford made the first car, so nobody else should make one.... asshat
- Braingoo, on 10/26/2007, -3/+23I just think its hilarious that when Apple does it its genius but when others do it, its an all-in-one piece of crap.
- SOS84, on 10/29/2007, -5/+24It did not take too long for the Apple fan boys to claim Dell was copying the iMac. Too bad the iMac is a shameless copy of the short lived IBM NetVista series of PCs popular on college campuses during the mid to late 90s and into the Y2K.
- toxicityj, on 10/29/2007, -3/+22anyone else think the gateway one ( http://www.engadget.com/tag/gateway%20one/ ) looks like a ipod nano?
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -3/+22What's even worse, is that you're in High School, so 10 years ago, you were what, 6, maybe 7 years old at the max? So, I honestly don't think you knew much about Apple doing anything, since 10 years ago Apple was pretty *****. I swear, you dumbass kids need to shut the ***** up and quit trying to act smart, because you guys fail miserably every single time.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+18Acer does
- Phate8263, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14Way to note the sarcasm!
- RetroRufio, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14I wouldn't dare, unless the processor has an emergency lever that reads "Never use this"
- trib4lmaniac, on 10/25/2007, -0/+13I don't know why companies like Dell (and others) put in top notch components (E6750, 4GB RAM) and then suddenly turn stingy when it comes to the graphics card.
A 2600 HD should be the *minimum* spec for a machine with this price tag. - fkr3, on 10/29/2007, -0/+13a) It's a desktop
b) It's bad luck, affecting just you and the nobody you know. - RetroRufio, on 10/25/2007, -3/+15I'm hoping for plaid (I live in one of those fake log cabins, it'll look great!)
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+12Lots of things are easy to do on your own.
People with lives pay people to make those too. - acarr, on 10/29/2007, -14/+25"all-in-one" when applied to anything usually means "piece of crap"
- cerealman, on 10/26/2007, -1/+12Yeah, damn laptops!
- soopafly, on 10/29/2007, -8/+18ZOMG $2000!! I build my own systems by the way. I can build one better AND cheaper. For only $299. And I could upgrade anytime I want
^ Saved you PC weenies some time. Just copy and paste into the comments. - cerealman, on 10/26/2007, -1/+9Nope. I own an XPS 710, and I've been very happy with it. It's completely changed my tune regarding pre-made computers (I had built all my previous machines prior).
- Acqua206, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8If you read the article, you would see that the back pops off fairly easily. I think you would have easy access to the cpu, 3.5" hard drive, gpu and ram slots. Pretty much all you need right there.
- cerealman, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8Having purchased a Dell XPS 710 after years of building my own, I was rather happy with what I got. It would have taken me longer shopping around, finding the parts, putting everything together, waiting for delivery's to be made, etc. And I ended up with a high quality machine with solid parts that are all made by companies I recognize.
- fkr3, on 10/25/2007, -1/+9The photo of the mouse with a ruler beside it clinches th deal.
- madskjaer, on 10/29/2007, -3/+11This is actually extraordinarily sexy for a Dell computer. They're beginning to design some pretty attractive systems.
- mattus, on 10/25/2007, -0/+7Your monitor is over 200f? Turn it off and send it back before it burns your house down...
- GoingPostal, on 10/24/2007, -0/+7There goes another 4 weeks of overtime. Damn you engadget.
- Braingoo, on 10/25/2007, -1/+7Inferior parts i think you should look at what a MAC actually has in it.
- donte, on 10/25/2007, -0/+6Absolutely nothing. So what, this is one model of PC which is pretty much stuck as is. That doesn't affect the 40,000 other models of completely customizable/upgradeable PCs which are still available (many of them still offered by Dell).
I'm not arguing mac or pc in one direction or another, but your comment acts like this is now the only PC on the market. - aspec, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6I bought a macbook and a vaio laptop at the same time, and they're rock solid. Well... they both needed ram.
- Lasereth, on 10/26/2007, -2/+8Uhh what's with the really, really bad videocard it comes with? Radeon 2400 Pro? Incredible bottleneck on that system.
- bradleyland, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6My walls are completely covered in mirrors... but for an entirely different reason.
- BlackJackJester, on 10/26/2007, -4/+10just like your iMac, huh?
- tuxidomasx, on 10/26/2007, -4/+10cute i guess
but at $2000+ ... you could build one with better specs for a fraction of the price - velocitychannel, on 10/26/2007, -11/+17Doesn't XPS stand for eXpensive Piece of Sh*t?
- wytten, on 10/26/2007, -6/+11Gateway? Who set the wayback machine to 1992?
- killtherebel, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5this has better specs than the iMac.
- louiedog, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6My walls are completely covered in mirrors to make my studio seem bigger. It works really well, but unfortunately it exposes the backs of everything I have. That's why I'm buying this computer.
- badnewsblair, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5Sometimes you just want somebody ELSE to be your IT department.
- jwiegmann, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6harder to upgrade is better than impossible to upgrade
and any true pc fanboy wouldn't buy this peice of ***** in the link - triplehelix, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5did you miss the word "burner"?
- yojiffyskippy, on 10/25/2007, -3/+8Actually if you're basing it on the "pretty factor" then you might want to get a Mac. And NO, I'm not a Mac user but they do have some "Purdy Computers".
- SealandRes1, on 10/29/2007, -12/+17When you are copying someone, at least make it better. The damn thing looks hideous and it's got a HD2400 which sucks compared to the HD2600 pro available on the iMac.
- ThinkBox, on 10/29/2007, -2/+7/not funny
- pierre, on 10/29/2007, -19/+24what a clunker.... damn ugly.
- ThinkBox, on 10/25/2007, -2/+7You have an interesting threshold for spending $2k+ if you have a studio, and you care about looks, I wonder why you dont get an iMac and just run windows. It would look better than this thing...
- Ramble, on 10/25/2007, -1/+6Becuase the iMac was the first in-screen computer.
- johnnybluejeans, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5This just in: Builing your own PC was *never* difficult. However, as the PC market has become more cut-throat, the money you save building your own PC has been drastically reduced -- sometimes to the point of it being more expensive. Years ago (I'm going back to the Pentium I / Cyrix / AMD days) you could build a top end machine for 1/3 the price that Dell was charging). This just is not true anymore.
Sure, Dell still price gouges at the top with their XPS gaming machines -- but you can generally buy the exact same specs in a Dell Home Office / Business machine then throw in your own video card to match the XPS for 1/2 the price. - yojiffyskippy, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4EVERYONE you know? Wow!
