- UnFriendlyFire, on 05/14/2009, -3/+38They can Google ways to please their husband when he gets home from work.
- freezerburn666, on 05/14/2009, -2/+25dudette, ur gettin a della
- whirlingderv, on 05/14/2009, -0/+15Aesthetics is a pretty huge factor for many people, men AND women, even those who DO care about performance... or else all computers/monitors would be ugly brick-looking boxes, and for the most part, they aren't (even the top-performers are trying to be aesthetically pleasing).
- sockpuppets, on 05/14/2009, -5/+191. Big piece of chicken
2. Beer
3. Blowjob
4. Less chatting more backrubs. - RockMuncher, on 05/14/2009, -1/+15And I just read an article about how disingenuous it is (right here: http://www.itworld.com/hardware/67071/laptop-gende ... ) to try and market specifically to gender in computer preference, and how women tend to look at it cynically when a product is 'marketed towards women'. Good god this campaign looks condescending; it looks like its targeted towards Cosmo readers, and I have to say I sure as hell don't read Cosmo and don't know any other women under 30 that do. And the few I know that do read Cosmo don't give a crap about computers... so.. failure all around really.
- GeneralMonoxide, on 05/14/2009, -2/+15Crazy.
What is next, Macs targeted towards heterosexuals sporty alpha males? Pre-installed Madden 09 and Call of duty 4? - pegothejerk, on 05/14/2009, -1/+11Wmn528: So I was just standing there and*DING* Reminder: Time to do the dishes Sally!
Frizy: What was that?
Wmn528: Nevermind
*DING* Reminder: Have you vacuumed yet, Sally? Bob will be home soon. Best start the dinner early!
Wmn528: Jeesus I hate my li
*DING* Reminder: Might want to re-apply your make-up, too! The husband has worked hard all day and needs to relax and enjoy pleasant visuals and a clean environment when he gets home.
*DING*.. - diggwut, on 05/14/2009, -1/+11A 50's version of that computer would probably be the size of the empire state building.
- thebigredcat, on 05/14/2009, -0/+10*As Seen on The Dinah Shore Show!* Get a Della and please your fella!
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -2/+10Hahaha Suzanne Choney has no idea what she's talking about. This is a brilliant move.
- loobis, on 05/14/2009, -0/+8They should have called it Delldo. That would have generated some interest.
- Hoop1a, on 05/14/2009, -1/+8Great title.
- hoppy2626, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6Seriously. Recipes. Certainly you must be able to see where the offense comes in. If you want to market to women, that's great (probably a very good idea). But if you want to tell me I can find awesome recipes on my fabulous new computer instead of telling me about, say, the RAM and HD capacity, we've got a problem.
Maybe market it at older women, because my mother did buy a Vaio simply because it was pink. - frieddonuts, on 05/14/2009, -0/+6Fact: Cosmo is at least partially marketed to insecure men.
- ConnText, on 05/14/2009, -6/+12This is pretty brilliant, actually. Not be discriminatory at all, but a lot of females couldn't care less what's in their PC or laptop, its just true. Not all obviously, but a good portion of the buying market. Aesthetics could be a huge factor if you don't care about performance all that mich.
- SmpleJohn, on 05/14/2009, -0/+5And Perez Hilton
- SpykerSpeed, on 05/14/2009, -2/+7Believe it or not, not every woman is attempting to impress a sense of power over her male co-workers by acting butch.
There's nothing wrong with what Dell is doing here. - JAVandiver, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4A triple-***** logo you say?
- tastypastry, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4I like the way you think.
- jayjayjoni, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4"Netbooks and laptops are presented as fashion statements."
Seriously? - someology, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4You can pry my laptop out of my cold dead hands. So there.
- inactive, on 05/14/2009, -1/+5 It's PINK..WHY do these companies think every female ever born loves pink?!
- sigmaman2, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4"Mom, has your data ever had that feeling of being...hmmm...not so contiguous?"
- WitnessX, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Della, ella, ella, aye, aye... Won't you come fix my red Della, ella, ella, ella...
- apetrie, on 05/14/2009, -0/+4Yeah! If shes not young and pretty, her opinions are invalid! If shes not hot, everything she must have to say criticizing advertising to women absolutely has to come from a place of jealousy!
In case its not clear, I'm being sarcastic and you are being an idiot. - EtherGnat, on 05/15/2009, -0/+3I don't dispute that men can enjoy aesthetics, nor do I make any blanket statements. All I say is that in my experience, on balance, what women are interested in is somewhat different than men. Individual differences outweigh the averages, and I'm not trying to stereotype anybody.
At any rate it is difficult for Dell to capitalize on those differences with the Della site without insulting the very group it's trying to attract. - wawul, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4and apparently you have sand in yours
- JAVandiver, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3That is the exact market that they are trying to attract. I know at least five women who would love this site. Newegg "scares them", literally!
Them: Can you help me find a new computer?
Me: Go to Newegg.com.
Them: Okay.
*An hour later*
Them: Can you help me find a new computer?
Me: Did you go to Newegg?
Them: Yeah, but it scares me. There is too much information that I don't understand.
Me: *Facepalm* - ivan423, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4Girls like pink stuff, and flowers.
- pezangel, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4for ladies only?
:) - JAVandiver, on 05/14/2009, -1/+4Chicken?! To the Moon, Alice! White kind of meal is that is that for a man?! It had best be steak. Wrapped in bacon... One more, Alice, one more time... And its pow! Right in the kisser!
- DCstewieG, on 05/14/2009, -0/+3I thought this was actually going to be an imagining of what laptops might have looked like in the 50s. That could be kinda cool!
- ethana2, on 05/15/2009, -0/+3As always, I'll consider just about any computer I can get with Mac OS X or Ubuntu preinstalled.
- tomato1324, on 05/14/2009, -1/+3fail
- apetrie, on 05/14/2009, -1/+3I'm a woman and I find this advertising condescending and insulting. Not that I was planning to buy anything from them soon, but they definitely have lost my business now. Maybe you don't know everything about women? Maybe you are a woman and this kind of thing appeals to you, oh well.. you wouldn't be the first to make me feel shame on behalf of my gender.
- apetrie, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Clever but, this doesn't market to women who want to "take care of themselves" or "cater to their family" so much as vain vacuous bitches who would only consider how "cute" it is.
Interesting idea of what you seem to think a "real woman" is. - Gotar, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2I don't know how well a gothbook would work...
I mean with wires hanging over half the screen, usb dongles piercing every port, and the muddy, dark screen, doubt it'd be very usable. - jonmlm, on 05/14/2009, -1/+3huh, guess susan choney's never seen that popular, empowering tv show sex and the city?
- hoffmann277, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Awesome. I'd prefer art deco myself though.
Hopefully next... - jejones, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Why not? They've become commoditized. Netbooks are good enough for what they're intended to do, and so people go to decorative or convenience aspects to distinguish them. Seen USB flash drives lately? They come in wretchedly cute Teletubby-like cases, a plethora of colors, or are set up so that you don't have a separable USB cap that you can lose. Ditto for mice--they're all optical now, and so you see ones with little cat feet (paging Mr. Sandburg!) or tiger stripes, or flashy LEDs.
- v2theg, on 05/14/2009, -1/+3my grandma's name was Della!
- yurishoujo, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Bull. How many men do you know who will go "oh awesome!" at a cool looking case? Men like aesthetics just as much, it's just a different set of aesthetics. If we didn't we'd still have the ugly beige boxes of the late 80s/early 90s for computers. Most men will take notice at how small it is too. They won't exclaim "oh cute!" because guys generally just don't use that word, but the small can still be just as appealing.
- SmpleJohn, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Seriously.
- Elranzer, on 05/15/2009, -0/+2I guess Chris Rock said it best. Men only want three things: food, sex, silence!
1. Feed Me
2. ***** Me
3. Shut the ***** up! - jejones, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Not necessarily. If Dell's made a mistake, it's not going for even further customization. How about a Goth netbook?
- D3koy, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2Fact, Sitting around tossing around an issue of Cosmo and reading bits of it with your friends is a pretty fun way to spend an evening...I can only assume alcohol would improve that, but my data isn't in yet.
- winterspan, on 05/15/2009, -0/+2Yeah, but Dell is not known as a brand for aesthetics.. It's like pimping out a Hyundai!
Just the word "Della" thing makes me CRINGE! I can totally see some 40 year old marketing execs sitting around and trying to figure out how to be cool and trendy..
People who enjoy nice design buy laptops from Apple or Sony... - IAthenaI, on 05/15/2009, -0/+2It's true, sometimes we do :)
- gordigor, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2I was hoping it was going to be some retro looking network from the 50's. Same netbook size but 50's space theme (sputniks, boomerangs and such). I totally would have bought one... plus I thought Della would have been the name of there 1950's robot maid .. like on the Jetson's
