- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Well I don't
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It is freaky how many people do not change these details. I'd have to say at least 90% keep the default login information, im my experience.
- wibblewibble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+123Com put them on their login page as a way to encourage numpties to CHANGE THEIR DEFAULT ADMIN PASSWORD. and its a good call by 3Com on their office connect gear which is rock solid unlike this dlink, netgear etc consumer crap.
But nevermind routers :) How about telling us the keypad reprogramming codes for ATM machines :) - wibblewibble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes after owning a few (latest firmware too) D-link routers and running p2p through them i end up having to reboot them once a day or more often as they get ***** up. With 3com I dont have to do this on the frequency as consumer boxes. Anyway, wifi in its current form is useless as a LAN replacement for an always on box as they always reconnect way to often and this is even when im a few meters from the box on full power and on channels that are not used nearby.
- jimrooney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Funny, I didn't think "Oooooh SCARY!"... I thought "Great, one place to get all my default passwords when I have to redo my routers"
Security through obscurity is crap. This kinda stuff should be up in neon lights so people get to understanding that it's actually important to change the defaults. - miles32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3great list but I have yet to run into a router that hadnt changed there password and login already.
- flydpnkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're not referring to the actual DSL modem or cable modem, they're referring to "routers" (which really just do NAT) like a Linksys router or a D-Link router. They're used to for example plug 3 computers into and let all three get internet at the same time.
- SuperCow1127, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Chances are, these passwords won't help you get online, just into the configuration settings on the router.
- twistymcgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most routers also come with the ability to administer from outside the network turned off. You have to go out of your way to turn that feature on. Just in case anyone was considering hunting for someone to mess with =).
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what country do you live in?
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SuperCow - If you know what you're doing, you can get internet access too...
- krazikamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I was in the dorms at school I found an unsecured wireless network. I tried to access the router and sure enough it had the default password. I didn't know about this list but I just tried a few common passwords until I got in.
He did have one layer of security though: it was all in chinese. I couldn't figure out how to change the language (if it was even possible), but there were enough acronyms and numbers that I usually had no problem figuring out what I was doing. - mitchb13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of these are old and more importantly, stolen from http://www.governmentsecurity.org/articles/DefaultLoginsandPasswordsforNetworkedDevices.php
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Most consumer grade routers can do some real routing as well.
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm, one of my neighbor's has a Microsoft router, I don't see it on the list. Oh well.
- SuperCow1127, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How many times have you been able to access the configuration login prompt on a consumer grade router, but not been able to get the the greater internet? Chances are also fantastic that someone who doesn't know how to change the default password doesn't know how to block internet access to specific clients.
- Clemenceau, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Dude, soooo awesome. There are too many times when I'm wanting to get on the net in a public place and can't because of no password. Oh, and I should probably change mine.
- sh0k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3What a riveting description!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Be carefull when you write careful
- eyec, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0agree, this is old and mis-leading. most ISP provided dsl modems come with changed login/password combinations.
- ArcusOfSV, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1"3Com on their office connect gear which is rock solid unlike this dlink, netgear etc consumer crap."
Hahahahaha..... - kippjon, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7oh shut the ***** up
- binary64, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3Who cares
- adiman7, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1I've dugg it, but while i was fast browsing the page i found these two entries:
ion nelu nel Multi n/a admin Admin vreau ceva 2006-03-15 2006-03-15
ion nelu nel Multi Administrator admin Admin vreau ceva 2006-03-15 2006-03-15
In Romanian: ion is a person name, it's the equivalent of John in English, nelu is something like Johnny, and 'vreau ceva' means 'i want something'
Pretty odd... undigg - Lakeuk, on 10/12/2007, -14/+0No good, my two routers are not on the list
a Netgear and a Dynamode - ArcusOfSV, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2"a Dynamode"

- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -28/+5I am amused at how many frontpage stories are taken from reddit.
I'm not bashing digg, I'm just amused by this. - sbbath, on 10/12/2007, -41/+5old, everyone should know about this
