- Steev0, on 09/23/2009, -0/+29Hooray for one hour battery life!
- DarthVolta, on 09/23/2009, -3/+28If you're buying a laptop this powerful, it's for gaming, and it's most likely a desktop replacement. Battery life really shouldn't even enter into the equation.
- jrm125, on 09/23/2009, -0/+22Crysis on the subway....
- masterkenobi, on 09/24/2009, -0/+13Well not just for gaming, I'd probably use it for faster bluray to mkv conversions.
For, you know, backing up my bluray discs.
That I own.
.......... - copypastry, on 09/23/2009, -0/+12>i7/high-end gaming laptops
>affordable
LOL - Onion575, on 09/24/2009, -0/+10But you'll look pretty badass for the 12 minutes your battery holds out.
- reticulate, on 09/23/2009, -0/+9In other words, don't buy a high-end laptop anytime soon unless you really need to.
- linuxpenguin, on 09/24/2009, -0/+9@DarkShroud: I don't see how that stops Apple from using them. . .
- reticulate, on 09/23/2009, -1/+7The term Desktop Replacement is obviously lost on you.
Also, these are likely more efficient than the Core2's that they replace. - takamalak, on 09/24/2009, -0/+6Oh so every vendor has these i7 laptops out now and are not shipping C2 chips in them anymore? News to me, *****!
- yensed, on 09/23/2009, -4/+10Want!
- skingers, on 09/24/2009, -1/+7Huh? Apple actually had first use of the Nehalem architecture in the Mac Pro. What makes you think they wouldn't use this in their Mac Book Pros? Apple has 91% of the market in systems over $1000 and these puppies are likely to appear in premium products first and foremost. I would in fact be very surprised if Apple do not have these in their lineup early in the game.
- unlimitedmp, on 09/23/2009, -0/+6MAXIMUM ARMOR.
- Chris_F, on 09/23/2009, -2/+8New hardware tech, in a Mac? You're going to have to wait at least 18 more months for a i7 in a MacBook. They're still waiting for Bluray the last I checked.
- jrm125, on 09/23/2009, -3/+8What's to stop Apple from using these too?
- Hellicus, on 09/24/2009, -0/+5been there... :(
- linuxpenguin, on 09/24/2009, -2/+6Hate to burst your bubble. . . you won't be playing for very long on battery power.
- Zippo, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4Settle down, grandpa
- WoollyMittens, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4I call ***** on the "affordable" bit. The whole industry is running scared from the impact "affordable" netbooks have had on their bottom line. They are desperate to sell something expensive again.
- kap77, on 09/23/2009, -0/+4Informative. I did not know this until I saw it here. I was waiting for the next round of CPU hardware to come around to purchase a new laptop.
- KMartSheriff, on 09/24/2009, -1/+5You mean to say you consciously bought an HP product?
- masterkenobi, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4Crysis in the bathroom!
- metalhead3767, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4WHAT SOCKET DOES IT TAKE???!!!
- fury420, on 09/24/2009, -1/+5I know its like comparing Oranges to Grapes, but Apple did manage to release their 8core Mac Pros with Nehalem-based Xeon processors weeks if not months prior to other manufacturers, and even before Intel's release announcement for the chips.
With that said, I agree we may be waiting quite awhile for the next MBP revision that includes quad cores, but it is not always the case, it all depends on how long since the last major update - KMartSheriff, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3Obvious troll is obvious.
- AwesomeDeluxe, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3I recommend waiting for the 32nm Core i5/i3 mobiles (arrandale) coming out before the end of this year that will be much cheaper and have much lower power consumption. These i7s (clarksfield) will really only end up in desktop replacement laptops, wherein at those prices you might be better served with a desktop processor jammed inside anyway.
- fury420, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2this is about laptops, which in general do not ship with anything close to a Q9550
- masterkenobi, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2tbh, I don't think macs will be getting bluray anytime soon.
- datdamonfoo, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1@SteveMax
Apple fans don't want "facts", they want "firsts"! - MethodOne, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Of course Pacman is going to run on that system, if all the necessary hardware is supported by Arch Linux at installation time. You don't need a lot of resources to run it because it's just a package manager. The only slowdown with Pacman depends on what you install.with it and what other processes are running on the system.
- iskin, on 09/24/2009, -1/+2Are the current generation of games anywhere near being limited by CPU? Every game that I currently play doesn't even use half of the power in the Q9550 in my system, well, aside from GTA4. GTA4 is kind of a special bread of PC game though.
- SteveMax, on 09/24/2009, -1/+2@skingers, you're wrong. Apple put Nehalen chips on their desktops a long time after they were on the market. They had the first Nehalen Xeons, but they were available as Core i7 for a long time.
- SteveMax, on 09/30/2009, -0/+1@datdamonfoo
I could be considered an Apple fan, at least as long as OSs and computer hardware go, but that doesn't mean I will ignore the facts. - thawkth, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1fwahahahahahaha!
- DarkShroud, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1I just saw the option for i7s a moment ago when I was pricing a Dell Laptop for my mother. This is great news since it means the laptop will be powerful enough for a few years. I know I'll be ordering one by Christmas now.
- broodking, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1i guess its time upgrade
- Biosfear01, on 09/24/2009, -1/+29001.
- waspbr, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1the i7 is a great processor,, I just wish it was a little cheaper tho.
- AwesomeDeluxe, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1If you only spent $1000, then you didn't spend enough for one of these things to be jammed in there anyway.
- Biosfear01, on 09/24/2009, -1/+2mate i have no idea, i just used the "its over 9000!!!" meme...
- metalhead3767, on 09/24/2009, -1/+1Do you know if they will make one to fit socket P?
- damnshoes, on 09/24/2009, -2/+2I still play Unread Tournament.
oooohyeeahh!! - DarkShroud, on 09/24/2009, -3/+3If you want new & high end you don't go Mac. Those things don't even have Quad Cores yet.
- linuxpenguin, on 09/24/2009, -3/+3Yeah, because it's always the processor speed that they brag about, and Apple PC's can't use Intel processors.
- skit4king, on 09/23/2009, -4/+3Pac man is going to run like a dream on one of these. I'll be getting such smooth frame rates when I play solitaire as well. (keep in mind this is a fast CPU, nothing to do with graphics acceleration).
- EggAndMuffin, on 09/24/2009, -2/+1and I just spent $1,000 on a HP laptop...
- ketdizzle, on 09/23/2009, -4/+2forget battery life...batteries in general shouldnt enter into the equation
- musntSurfatWork, on 09/23/2009, -3/+1Too bad there aren't anymore good PC games worthy of this behemoth number cruncher.
All the good talent came and went. Gone are the good old days of "immersion" in a videogame. maybe I'm old.
Tropico3 should be a contender, Hearts of Iron 3 for those who have that calling to play that kind of game, Diablo3, well we'll all be running core i-16's with a holographic display by the time that one is out, Twist of Fate, graphic adventure by Pendulum Studios, ... can't think of anything else at this time... - cleric04, on 09/24/2009, -6/+3Core i7 Mac Mini please :-D
