- agrabob, on 10/11/2007, -8/+99Yes, in 2015 Microsoft will still be milking Vista.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -11/+92and Apple will still be figuring out how to name their next cat-inspired OS.
- JayD16, on 10/11/2007, -7/+66OSXV "Tabby"
- foolfromhell, on 10/11/2007, -3/+54Thats not Vista... Its XP with the Vista imitation skin.
The wallpaper and the start icon give it away.
And the WMP 9/10 when Vista comes with WMP10.
And http://blog.scifi.com/tech/pics/compenion_5.jpg
Its VLC with the XP bar...
He got one thing right. In 2015, nobody would have switched to Vista yet. - lordtyros, on 10/11/2007, -8/+57Who the ***** wants a touchscreen keyboard on a laptop?
- deadbaby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40Looks less functional than a modern laptop
- FeartheKnighted, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Seriously, this is the most ***** design I've ever seen. All this felix guy did was take a laptop, put it on the jenny craig diet, and remove the keyboard for a high tech "zomg teh pwn" touchscreen.
- ozid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22lol @ vga webcam after all of that.
- bndocksnt, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20who the ***** wants a viewing angle like that?
- Spikito, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20yeah, and in 2015 well be looking back at this sayin "yeah, thats actually what they thought 2015 would be like", just like all these apple videos circa 1990 that show what computers would be like in 2005
- inkswamp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Oooh... you mean in the distant future we might actually have powerful, portable devices that allow the screen to double as a touch surface and keyboard? Wow. Imagine that.
- t1da1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15but where will we put the quad video cards, 16x 32 core processors raid 5000hard drives and vga webcam?
- avatarpalin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Ok I am calling it, hopefully Digg.com will be around so I can check my comment then but here goes..
2015: Google OS V2
A thin client style OS driven by the fact that they have provided the world with free broadband internet access from The North Pole to the South Pole and everywhere in between.
Cost $290 (euros) - ptFoe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11The linux Kernel will be 2.6.35
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14ill bet thats great for streaming pornogr... youtube videos
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12Vista Service Pack 1: January 2015
- JorgeGT, on 10/11/2007, -1/+72015...
Model: Wooden Abacus Mk II
OS: Mutant pseudohuman intellect.
Price: 300 little round stones. - ozid, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10i like how vista is running WMP9 in 2015
- whatthefu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I'd rather the keys actually be keys--it's easier to type that way; why face inconvenience for the sake of your laptop looking good?
- inkswamp, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Wow! How did you get your hands on an iPhone already to make such definitive statements about its functionality? I mean, I'm assuming you have one already. I couldn't imagine anyone being so blindly opinionated as to make statements like that without knowing what they're talking about.
- Four20, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Is that it? I gotta wait 8 years for a laptop to be 'thin', my laptop in 2015 better be cooler than that
- howzitgoin88, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Looks cool. However, I cant help but feel there will be an optimus-keyboard-like price attatched...
- roamzero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5A touch screen keyboard.. would only really work if it offered somekind of tactile feedback imo. And how are you supposed to prop the screen up when using the keyboard? The mockups dont make it clear. I just dont see the typical keyboard going away for a long time, until computers can mind read what you want to input.
- brendangenius, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I personally hate this design, and I doubt any machine will ever look like that, ugh. Usability looks poor.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4A touch screen is really not usable to type on. Imagine taping your fingers on glass continuously at 110 words per minute, that would be painfull and lead to much worse problems than any RSI. Handwriting sucks.
Unless they invented some new type of very soft plastic. - maehem, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Wow! My neck hurts already! Can I preemptively sue for injuries?
- Armor1901, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Looks like the contrast sucks ass. Probably just the picture though since OLED's have incredible contrast ratios. How long you figure the batter would last if it has to power the screen and the keyboard as well?
Maybe I'm being redundant here, again I believe OLED's have good power consumption..? Anyone to clarify this? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"Yes, in 2015 Microsoft will still be milking Vista."
I was kinda hoping that by 2015, we'd be past the tired "windows" and "desktop" metaphor when dealing with interfaces. Damn prognosticators! - MauiMac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Do you have links to this "apple videos circa"... It should be interesting to see them
- b3mus3d, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Umm, could anyone link me to one of those apple videos? It sounds interesting, and I missed it.
Due to not being born at the time.
(whoops, MauiMac beat me to it...) - Topher06, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Come on guys, its a photoshop image of a design. Much ado about nothing.
- arnar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I'd rather have one of these: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20070611/microsoft-surface-the-island/
(no, not the M$ one, the one from the movie) - RustedGod, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Should have something more like Art Lebedev's Optimus Maximus, i.e., a keyboard that is completely layout neutral. The tactile feedback is not something that we're going to decide we don't need any more when typing. At least, no touch-typist is going to want that anytime soon.
Perhaps if it had this: http://www.immersion.com/industrial/touchscreen/ - cyano805, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is a half-baked concept, lacking vision. A "thinner" laptop by 2015? Nice deduction, tech gadgets have been getting smaller recently :. they will get even smaller. The touchscreen idea is not new either, this thing reminds me a lot of the Nintendo DS. Furthermore, incorporating a projector into a thin laptop is a neat idea, but it requires video projector technology to be greatly shrunk (will this happen on it's own?). By 2015 I expect to see some truly amazing applications of todays technology. I would hope laptops evolve into something more interactive or organic - it's taken over 20 years to get computers out of the grey box stage and you just predict there will be a smaller grey box for 2015.
- tutivlahos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2http://www.immersion.com/industrial/touchscreen/
Tactile Feedback for Touchscreens - DeusNova, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Uh, isn't the DS already achieving what this wants to do?
- GliTCH82, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Actually Vista comes with WMP 11. Or is that what you meant to say? Either way, looks really fragile. Is this thing gonna hold up under everyday wear and tear?
- chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4touch screen typing doesnt sound nice
no feedback and I think there might be some health issues associated with it
I hope standard keyboards will be available
Lighter sleeker yes thats good
I hope it will have a really good battery life, like 10 hours playing Games
and a crap load of processing power
either way
I still like the Asus $200 laptop better - kiranaryan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I agree with foolfromhell. The screenshot is showing Win XP. You can clearly see WMP8 and the wallpaper is from the VistaInspirat Transformation Pack. The dock on the top is probably MobyDock.
- kaytrio, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I'm calling something different:
Google OS -
Price: Free (Ad Supported)
Kernel: Linux - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -14/+15I'm not a big fan of super thin... People draw up all kinds of fantasy computers/laptops. None of them understand the technlogy that goes inside. You've gotta be a true enthusiast to understand the hardware side of things and apply that to your drawings.
That thing is so thin it probably can't even house a CD burner......then again by 2015 I bet you guys expect to be using something better. - iFox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I don't think we'll be running Vista on that...
- xile, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12015: VLC is apparently still the movie player of choice.
- afruff23, on 10/11/2007, -6/+6Seriously, touchscreen input is not the best. If anything, you should have a choice like my Cingular 8525 phone which has touchscreen, slideout qwerty, and 5-way navigation pad. Concepts like this as well as real things like the iPhone are not very practical.
- animefx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The question is what will the laptop look like in 20X6?! (twenty exty six!)
- cordata, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1hmmm.
Too bulky. Shouldn't it fit into a watch or something the size of an ipod.
Voice recognition should take care of the need for a keyboard.
Pity it isn't running the OLPC OS.
Wouldn't it be cool if it could be rolled up like paper?
Only one screen? How about screens on all surfaces/sides?
How about a Wii remote?
Think outside the square?? - allenm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Actually, its a Vista skin for XP. I used it a year ago before the RC's came out. It says Vista Inspire or something like that.
- Dracker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Please use the reply button
- accn112, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1"in 2015, there should be no screens... just lightweight vr glasses that can project the gui on a wall for display, connected via bluetooth to a belt buckle processor also connected wirelessly to 10 ring sensors on your fingers which will allow you to manipulate images and type text in the air with a virtual scalable keyboard with keys so big you can punch them...or eliminate the vr keyboard and just have advanced ai voice recog. it all be constantly trickle charged by the witricity broadcast worldwide from solar power generator satellites"
No no, in 2015, there are no vr glasses either. They'll be computers in our brains. I confess I'm a huge fan of Ghost in the Shell... but that situation is completely possible within 10 years. You will manipulate the system using only your mind and everyone will be connected via satellite. - b3mus3d, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Furthermore, screens generally look icky in actual sunlight, unless they're uber-bright. Touchscreens look even worse.
