- shaft63, on 10/12/2007, -17/+126This guy seems like a douchebag.
- southwestnut, on 10/12/2007, -5/+64I got a Hard Drive just looking at all that!
- M4tt3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47Sorry for hijack.
mirror : http://www.stefandidak.com.nyud.net:8080/office/index.php - flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48Should have paid for a better web host. and why is the site in third person?
George is angry. - jbzd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42Check out the killer server running your site.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42Pull your head out of your Mac ass, fanboy.
The ***** that guy has would smoke a MacPro. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35what about your avatar then
- libertao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36I'll tell you why he 'needs' it, so he can post it on the internet and have nerds awe at him.
- picklepants, on 10/12/2007, -13/+42Small dick.
- SloppyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -8/+32What a Pompous moron.
I have my doubts that any one person needs such a setup. Hosting 12-20 VMs Why? Is he running a mail server on one, apache on another, etc..etc.. Probably a lot of wasted CPU time.
Further, the fact that he is so proud of his setup to post such a detailed description of it online just proves that he is a pretentious dipwad.
I would find it much more impressive to see an office with 2 or 3 boxes, (Windows, Linux, Storage) and still prove to be productive.
7 monitors? Idiot. - emceepecks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24This will answer all your WTF's
http://www.stefandidak.com/office/faq.php - LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24That is some seriously impressive hardware! Sadly, he doesn't game on that (according to his FAQ at least). I was impressed by his homage to really old stuff as well in his layout.
- form3hide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19why is it sad? if you read his site, he says he develops software for windows. thus he must run windows.
- jspegele, on 10/12/2007, -1/+201.21 JIGAWATTS!!!
- StefanDidak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Actually, the desks aren't held up by the towers. The desks have strong solid steel bars that are part of the workbench structure. :-)
- operand, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I am sure he know's what he is doing considering he used to Develop 3D software.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It's all right... but I generally believe in the 'less is more' line of thinking. This setup could be greatly simplified.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Killer alright, I hate to think of what the power bill (let alone what all that hardware cost) might be.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18So the dude live in a basement server room. Not really that exciting IMO. All work and no play.
Now i'm not a Mac guy in any way shape or form, but this setup is sweet.

ENGLISH, do you speak it?!? - jspegele, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21does this guy run NASA out of his home office?
- zaqintosh, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21I read his faq, and it still doesn't add up.
For example.. I'm sure all those network switches he uses could be replaced by one big commercial one.
He may find it all dandy and affordable to waste huge amounts of electricity, but considering the cost of energy on our environment, and huge efforts being made globally to conserve, this guy doesn't set a very good example.
The fact that he is too lazy to layer windows and minimize/maximize on fewer screens doesn't justify powering 7 monitors... regardless of how important he thinks he is. - amahler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Dammit. Wrong freakin' browser tab, wrong damn story... Way to go, self.
- sunchild, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What a freakshow. That guy should shut up and let his pictures speak for themselves. His wife is equally annoying with all her online rambling. My favorite part is where she starts complaining about having a disease that makes her tired all the time... What a fun couple!
- SloppyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Maybe they're not married. Maybe they're just living together and don't want to really commit.
- wapp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Did you say four *JIGS* of ram?
- DivineMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11WTF was with the pic of his car too? Get a life buddy...He's obviously trying to impress someone. Posessions aren't everything.
- Mohonri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You might also enjoy this guy's set up:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1161982 - hode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I concur. I was expecting to see a killer home office, as in an efficient, pleasant space to work, not just a rack filled with equipment. He could put some art on that hospital white brick wall, maybe some plants... The only thing killer about this office is it may promote suicide.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Love the Amiga 1000 in the setup!
- carl689, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I do believe operand's point was he *Developed* 3d software...
- ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i do love how with all that power his site goes down
either its not powerfull enough for digg STILL
or he hosts on someone other host for some strange reason? - seuaniu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8two words:
Video. Editing.
Once you get into anything 720x480 or bigger, there is no such thing as enough storage, memory, horsepower, network speed, screen size, etc. If I could spring for a setup similar to that, I'd be able to double my workload easily. - yourfavweapn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yea i notice the extravagant pc setup and his taste for corvettes... plus he looks like a complete tool. And he calls that chick (dude?) his partner? Something tells me the only friends he has are 7 monitors, a cat, and a transvestite "lady" he calls Sallie (Sam?). Good for him though, if i was balding, had a small penis, and was from the Netherlands, I would totally strive to be just like him. Cheers!
- mathemagician, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I feel sorry for him. I just couldn't work seriously and happily in such an environment.
If I'd _really_ need such hw for work I'd lock it all up in the basement, get a nice and big desk, a small and _quiet_ laptop with an extra lcd and do all the work through the network instead of sitting in his spaceship-command-center. Preferabely in the backyard on sunny days.
Now where's the taxi driver showing off his ultra-pimped cab that he really needs for work? - fcmk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9From his site:
"Do you ever leave that office and have a life?
Of course. I like to travel and to spend time with my partner more than I like sitting in the office and playing with all the cool 'toys'. Sorry to disappoint anyone but I'm not enough of a geek that way, I suppose. I like to take at least 3 months of vacation each year too and hardly spend any time working on computers during those breaks." - Foamator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Woah, with all those heat-producing servers he has, I think the Digg effect will burn his house down.
- karel747, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Sounds like someone's jealous...
- DIGGER[NJLP], on 10/12/2007, -5/+11This is BS... Look at the 3Com stacks!
[quote]
The networking core of 3Com Office Connect switches, routers, and modems.
All systems have dual-NIC's (Gigabit) that split into two network segments.
Internet connectivity is split amongst 3 lines, good for 26mbps.
[quote]
One software developer needs all that connectivity??? For all of those servers??? Give me an example of any software product that would need 15 or 20 different clients and servers to develop successsfully.
This is a guy with to much money and a need to look impressive. - reiner15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Google cache:

Sure, the guy might be a total jerk, but just because he likes his home office and has it pimped out just the way he wants it doesn't make him a pompous ass. It's basically a hobby for him so he's gone to the extreme and put up a web page about it.
It's no different than someone modifying their car/house/boat in an extreme manner and then posting/blogging about it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That Stefan ***** was probably losing at 'who's got the biggest' back in the days
- deadsenator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Exactly. I am a computer nut, too. I have ~15 systems for various tasks. Most stay powered off since they are gaming boxes or specialized, but a small handful stay on: one dual Opteron fileserver with 4TB, a couple prime (dual Opty and Core2duo) workstations, a D/L server and a (dual Opty) game server. I am an admin by trade, but they are used for my hobbies and netgaming. I probably have $30k wrapped up in this stuff, but it's all for fun and learning. I test 64-bit operating system compatibility (mostly with games!), keep my sys admining skills honed, and run SETI. I have a lot of fun working with it all. I won't dare to take pictures since it's a mess most of the time.
The point is, let the guy have his hardware. It looks like a clean setup and he obviously knows how to use it. Big whoop. - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You guys don't get it, he needs it for all his porn....
- slantyyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You'd think with all that hardware at home that his site would be able to survive a digg.
- xWintermute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dugg for framing old processors.
- smilf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Well he's a developer(pretty good one it seems) for windows applictions.. so no he does not run linux.
- ucg1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4All the monitors running at 1280x1024. That monitor setup is ***** lame.
